bits and bobs: A random assortment of things; small remaining pieces and things
I don’t think you’re ever too old for gingerbread houses… Even when they’re made out of wood. If only our backyard was larger… I think I’d try and convince the HH to build one of these.
Spray painted hydrangeas. Now that’s something you don’t see every day.
I took this picture outside of a butcher shop in Stow-on-the-Wold in September and thought it was interesting. You would never see a tub of bits in a bin outside the door in the US.
Or this. 1,000 KG = 2,200 pounds ÷ 13 people = 169 pounds per person.
13 people in this space? Yikes!
Do you have a ruggable carpet? Did I already ask you this? I really like this design but I’ve never bought a washable rug before.
Bored Panda is pretty much the biggest rabbit hole on the planet earth. But if you get cabin fever in this winter and have a bunch of extra toilet paper rolls handy, #4 might help keep you sane.
Christmas is less than a week away. How is that even possible? This is another year that has whizzed on by. Maybe it’s just me. Maybe I’m just slowing down, but it seems more and more that there just aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done.
Seriously, it’s weird. And a little unsettling. Are you feeling this too?

P.S. What is your favorite coconut scented product? I need to know. I have my reasons.
Kimberly Vassar says
I have a ruggable in my living room. I have had it for 4 years and never washed it. I simply vacuum it. I love the look of it. I have a friend who has washed hers and it turned out just fine.
Jean C says
I think it depends on how large the Ruggable is – the larger ones are more problematic (wrinkles) but the smaller ones do fine.

I LOVE coconut scented shampoo!
Mel says
We had Ruggables for about 8 years and really liked them. One did develop a small hole, but you couldn’t see it, and that was maybe due to a tiny washer. We eventually had to get rid of them because we had an elderly dog who couldn’t tell the difference between them and puppy pads anymore, so I couldn’t wash them every day or store all the pieces, but I plan to get them again at some point.

Dr. Teal’s coconut lotion. Smells like the beach but not overwhelming.
Brianna says
Oh the costumes….I almost spit out my coffee on #9. Thanks for the entertainment today.
For coconut products…..I love Hawaiian Airlines hand soap and the 1st class body products. It is nostalgic for me.
Lana says
When we were taking Lamaze for our second baby the entire class squashed into the elevator and the thing would not go up. So it stopped and the door opened and there stood an elderly gentleman looking at all our PG bellies and told us we had overloaded it. We all just about fell down laughing during which time the doors closed and we punched the button again. Sadly the doors opened to the same now smirking man and half of us had to get out and wait for another trip. That baby is 42 now and we still laugh about it.
Hawaiian Tropic is the favorite coconut scent of this old lady who grew up on Florida and spent many a day at Daytona beach.
Gina says
YES! Hawaiian Tropic at Daytona Beach is the best. I can already smell the smell and feel the sun on my shiny skin! Thanks for a summer refresh as we approach the first day of winter in mid Missouri – even though I also grew up in Florida. 🙂 Definitely best coconut smell is Hawaiian Tropic!

We have had ruggables for 4 years. I love them! With pets, I pull them up frequently to wash. They have held up wonderfully and still look great!
JoAnn Moran says
I want to hear about the coconut recommendations too. Also wanted to weigh in that time is speeding up exponentially and this year went by in a blip. I find it unsettling too. I hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas.

My sister has a ruggable and two of the corners refuse to lay flat. I don’t think it’s been washed often as it’s just the two of them. It’s in her mudroom on exposed aggregate if that makes a difference. I buy those very inexpensive Loloi type printed rugs. Two 10 year old boxers and an 19 year old cat and they hold up extremely well to frequent mishaps. I spot clean them and hose/wash them down outside in summer. They’re dry within a few hours. You have to not mind the distressed look though and get a good pad as they’re very thin.
I like my coconut in a Pina colada .
Mama Cook says
Love our Ruggables…easy to wash with kiddos and pets! We had one that took a beating at the entry door of our old house. It would look as good as new after every washing!
Two caveats: A really powerful vacuum will suck them up, so we actually switched to a shark cordless.
The edges will roll after washing if you aren’t purposeful to keep them flat during drying. It is possible to iron them flat again or use carpet tape.
Ruth says
Grab a can of gold spray paint and stand at some distance (maybe 3 feet?) from your dried hydrangeas. Just hit them very lightly – a mere ‘suggestion’ of glow. Good for wreaths or indoor arrangements.
Michelle says
I had 2 ruggables, cannot recommend they roll up even before washing, fade very fast and anything larger than a runner never gets clean in the washer. For the price a wool rug is a better option.

I love EOS coconut water body lotion. It smells so good! And it helps my dry skin
Patti Vanderbloemen says
I cannot say enough good things about Ruggables! I have MANY strewn throughout my home -in many different sizes— as a safety mechanism for our dog. All of them have been washed numerous times, and after 5+ years, they all look good as new! Highly recommend
SueD says
Love our Ruggables! It’s been 4 years since we bought our first runner and 2 rugs for it. They’ve been washed numerous times and look as good as they did when brand new.
Deborah says
I have several Ruggables and have washed them many times without any issues. I change them with the season – so right now have Christmas themed rugs which is an easy way to decorate without adding a lot of clutter. The original ruggables are quite thin and are more challenging to vacuum but they now have a variety of pile heights and no issues with vacuuming them.
Alecia Loveless says
When I owned my B&B we would dry the hydrangeas every fall and then spray paint them a pink color, close to the color they would naturally be in late fall. We then used them in dried flower arrangements and as decorative works around the common space of the B&B.
Prepared like this they will last several seasons if they don’t get too dusty. I’d recommend replacing them every 3-4 years or sooner if you like.
One year we did a Victorian style Christmas tree complete with candles (which were small hanging candles two together attached by the wick), bows, and the painted hydrangeas. It was a big hit on the Home and Inns Tour that year.

I love Kopari Coconut Hydrating Body Wash. All Kopari products smell amazing and they have many coconut scented things. I have 3 Ruggables and I’d say if you don’t have to wash them often they are fine. The corners do lift on some of them and the large ones are really hard to place on the Velcro underpad thing after washing which I found irritating.
wendy lato says
I believe I saw a road show exhibit at Costco of ruggables. I did not care for the feel and texture of them.
Trace says
I’ve been so interested in the ruggables too…inquiring minds would love to know why some have issues w rolling on corners and others don’t? Ty
Mel says
Maybe the size of the rug? Ours were 5x7s, and we had no issues. I’m wondering if different styles (runners, perhaps) were more likely to roll.
Chris says
Trader Joe’s Coconut Body butter smells great and is very nice. Can’t beat the price! They used to have a vanilla body butter that was fabulous, but it’s been discontinued. I don’t recommend the Brazilian body butter, the scent is overpowering.

I have 5 ruggables and two shedding corgis-hence the 5 ruggables. Wash them all of the time. Some I have had for a few years-others recent purchases. They hold up very well. I wash them but hang them dry. I have 4 in the William Morris design. Very nice.
I have one as a bathmat, one as a runner, one as a rug in front of the inside door, one in the service porch with the two shedding dirty corgis run over all day long. I wash them weekly. So far-they are worth the cost.
Michelle says
I do not own a ruggable as it’s not right for our budget, but the Better Homes and Gardens washable rugs I bought from Walmart a few years ago have been great for our needs. If a reader of yours is on a more modest budget, it’s a winner in my book. Old dog friendly, young dog friendly, and family of 8 people friendly as well.

Bath and Body works Coconut Lime Verbena . Not sure if it is still available. The daughter was a coconut girl. Most no matter the cost, were overpowering to me. This one was just right and smelled “clean” as well, if that makes sense.
