bits and bobs: A random assortment of things; small remaining pieces and things
“I came across this video, relatable to those with a husband with a Traeger, or really any grill/smoking device. I got a kick out of it and wanted to share. I hope you find it a tad bit funny too. “ ~ Jennifer from Facebook
OH MY WORD!!! Jennifer, this was hilarious, I’m glad to know there are others out there with spouses obsessed with grilling/smoking meat. Thank you so much for sharing! π
Mainers. They don’t throw anything away. Seriously, how many people would have just thrown this on their burn pile? Remember the guy on Craigslist with the brass screws? And the coffee cans filled with man bits? It’s a thing here.
My husband wants to know how many people ate the shells {and then wrote the company to complain?} before they had to put “remove shells before consuming” on the back of the bag of pistachios. Seriously, it makes you wonder sometimes.
After watching the movie Fisherman’s Friends I can’t stop looking up listings in Port Issac.
Check out this past article about John Olson, a World War II veteran and Maine-art-lore inheritor, who spent more than nine decades on the water. Living in Maine. It’s the best.
And last but not least… The Girl sent me this picture of a heart shaped grape she found in her bag of grapes and it reminded me that love is everywhere. In the big things, in the small things…. you can always find it somewhere. You just have to look.
Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone, stay warm. π

I love Port Issac, too! If you haven’t already, you must find and watch Doc Martin. It’s filmed in Port Issac, and is sweet and funny.
Jennifer says
I came here to say the same thing. I love Doc Martin. I found him hilarious, my husband not so much.
Sean says
Great post today!!! Thank you.
Wynne says
My husband saves his pistachio shells as a fire starter.

On our visit overseas we made a point to go to Port Isaac as we had seen the Doc Martin series. Port Isaac is simply beautiful! There is a tour of the town by a local man that is very good as well.

When my son got a new smoker this summer I got his old smoker. I liked it when ever he made smoked meals when we visited. I would have never purchased one for myself because of the price. I have used it several times and I probably like smoked meat more than my husband. I am the one in the family that does all the grilling and smoking. The one time I asked my husband to grill chicken while I went to an appointment, I came home and found them eating undercooked chicken. I snatched their plates away and said you can’t eat chicken like that. Husbands reply was he like his meat rare. I told him that does not work for chicken.

Hubster is a smoker fan as well. He took over outdoor “grilling” about 10 years ago and bought the smoker 7 years ago.
Happy Tuesday π

About the warning on the pistachio bag…probably the same number of folks that prompted the warnings on take-out cups that coffee is hot, on packages of Tide pods that they are not for snacking, and the no smoking signs near gas pumps. Bless their hearts.

Today I heard somebody is suing the company that makes Hawaiian rolls bc they arenβt made in Hawaii anymore! Thank you Mavis for another lovely post.

I’ve watched “Fisherman’s Friend” twice now. Can’t get the song “What Do You Do With a Drunken Sailor” out of my head. Love that movie!

Great grill video. So true and so funny. Grills and riding lawn mower/tractors do this to men.

Mavis, I now live in Virginia but I grew up near Nashville and have been an Emmylou Harris fan for decades. When I found out today that “All the Roadrunning” is your new favorite song, I did a happy dance. Buy the entire album – it will not disappoint.

I got a new Singer sewing machine for Christmas, They don’t come with manuals anymore- you have to download one in order to sew. They DO come with about 6 pages of safety information in 3 languages. First on the list?
1. Do not use this sewing machine as a toy.
Makes you want to play with it while chomping pistachio nut shells, doesn’t it?

While using my hair straightener on my eyelashes! What? Who would possibly 1. Want straight eyelashes and 2. Even attempt to put something smoking hot near their eyes????????????? Good grief, to say the least!
Heidi Ho says
Oh my gosh, that was so funny!! Yes thank you for sharing Mavis and Jennifer and love the grape heart!!
Take care Mavis!!

Thank you for including the story about John Olson. I enjoyed it so much I clicked the link to the 10 Most Read Stories of the Year. I Read most of those to great satisfaction.
Your blog is so entertaining and one never knows where it will lead.

Port Issac is a very pretty little village. We visited when we last holidayed in Cornwall but then the whole of Cornwall is beautiful. I feel like I’m home when we are in Senen Cove

One of my favorite “silly” instructions was with my old school curling iron warning “do not use while sleeping”! Ummm……right!? I wonder if anyone has written a book full of the back stories to these warnings?

My 8 year old daughter wanted to know why I was looking at a picture of a grape that looks like “butt cheeks”. I guess we all see something a little different. I saw a heart too.
Lilypad says
It looks like a butt to me, too. I have taken pictures of white button mushrooms that look like butts…that’s what cracks up me and my 19 year old son—“butt-shrooms”! These days, you’ve got to take happiness where you can find it!
