bits and bobs: A random assortment of things; small remaining pieces and things
The Girl went on a 17 mile run yesterday {yes, she is insane} and when she got back she noticed she had dropped one of her gloves while running. The HH was deeply confused as to how it was possible to lose a glove while running because wasn’t the glove on her hand? It’s like 28 degrees outside!?
Whatever. So the Girl and I began to retrace the route she ran and what do you know… We found her glove about two miles in.
And since we were out we figured we might as well take a walk on the beach. But before that we stopped at our favorite general store to load up on ice cream and a hot breakfast bagel to go. And then we sat at the beach so we could eat the bagel before looking for shells and heart shaped rocks.
And then I was nearly attacked by a seagull.
I spy a the side view of a chicken. What do you see?
And then we went home and made care packages filled with homemade cookies for Monkey Boy and my parents.
My husband. He just got some sort of hand held emergency radio and so we had to listen to the crackle of codes and calls from the fire station and ambulances being dispatched while we baked. For some strange reason he has decided the kitchen is the best place to dock the device. I’m no rocket scientist or anything, but I have a feeling the radio will be MIA here pretty soon if he doesn’t turn it off.
And last but not least… it snowed a whopping 8 inches at our house overnight. Sweet Diggety! Another pajama day for me. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Wishing you all the best on this beautiful March morning,
~Mavis

You could get addicted to the radio. You will hear what is going on in town, who needs help and who’s being bad! My husband was a volunteer EMT and when he had it on ‘all channels’ we heard what was going on in the county. Trust me after a while you don’t even notice it. Interesting what the HH is finding to do with his time – after working looooong hours for so long.

We had an emergency scanner when my son was a volunteer firefighter. I can’t say it got to the point that I didn’t hear it, but we all “filtered out” a lot of it. I’m happy that you found the glove, especially before the snow hit.

I once drove my husband’s car to the grocery store, and the car was mobbed by seagulls as soon as I entered the parking lot. It turns out that my husband had been buying the gulls a box of Cheerios every time he went to the store, and they recognized the car.

More snow? I’m ready for spring. Which company do you recommend for the PNW?

I find joy in you finding that glove! Here, of course, in New Hampshire we are also covered in snow (6 inches). I just want to tell you how much I love that you continue to share your day to day life in this crisis. THANK YOU!!!

Awe yes I remember spring in Brunswick Maine,1972 May. Flowers poking up through the snow. Growing up in Southern California had not prepared me for 6 to 8′ snow drifts. After 2 years what can I say, I thought all winters would be that way. Not so. The military took us far and wide. Nothing was ever quite like Maine. This silly girl did find out that the Atlantic ocean is no where as warm as the Pacific ocean in Southern California or Hawaii.
Now we live in New Mexico. Some cold. Some hot. Some dry. Some humid. Ain’t life grand? (I do miss the snow.)

My mother had a police scanner and she LOVED it! It didn’t bother us and it made her happy – I want to say she was in her mid-40s at the time? I say, let your HH enjoy his scanner and “read” one of your audio-books to tune it out if it REALLY bothers you. I’ve followed your blog for awhile and I’m still never sure when you are kidding.

I see a chicken too. I’m jealous. I’m in NE Florida. Our weather is beautiful right now, but our beaches were closed Saturday evening until further notice due to the pandemic. Police are patrolling the beaches and a $250 fine if you are caught on the beach.

I see a chicken, too.
A relative of mine had a scanner in their living room. They said they only heard the important stuff and never noticed the rest of it.

My mom also had a police scanner in her bedroom. She would fall asleep listening to it. Her friends each had one too. They would call each other the next day to discuss what they had heard-said it was far more interesting than any tv show.

Hi Mavis, I have to say I saw the chicken before I read the sentence underneath the photo. Where was this chicken located or what was it made out of. As far as the HH and his scanner radio, ugh! Get rid of the darn thing. My hubby thought it was so cool when he bought one. I drove me up the wall listening to all that crackling noise. He left the house one day to run an errand so I shut the darn thing off. He didn’t even notice it was off for three days. I told him that if he didn’t even notice it was off then he didn’t notice it when it was on. So the next day I got rid of it. Best thing I ever did! We have 6 inches of new snow in southern Vermont. Poking up thru the snow are a bunch of my daffodils ready to open. I need spring!!!
