bits and bobs: A random assortment of things; small remaining pieces and things
Did you hear the news? Now you can bring your dog on a plane and they don’t have to stay in a crate under your seat or fly in the cargo section of a plane anymore. There’s only 1 catch.
The price. Bark Air. I wonder if this idea will take off.
Do you have an old denim skirt laying around your closet? Or maybe you’re looking for a reason to go to the thrift store? Well then, do I have a money making idea for you.
I spotted this skirt at Nordstrom on my last visit to the PNW and couldn’t resist taking a picture. First I took the picture, then I guessed the price for the skirt AND THEN turned over the price tag.
I was thinking it would be somewhere in the $200- $300 price range. {Keep in mind this was Nordstrom, not Goodwill and actually I don’t even know if this would have even made it onto the sales floor at Goodwill…. In fact I’m pretty sure it would not have.}
HOLY SMOKES MAN!!! Seriously, Who would buy this? Don’t you kind of want to know? And if you think the price tag on that skirt is crazy, check out THESE pants. It’s bananas. Just bananas.
Stay away from Bored Panda. It’s the biggest rabbit hole on the planet earth! But if you have cats… You might think this series is funny.
My new favorite John Bray estate: Pen-Eglos. At 1,600 square feet, this is a rather spacious property in Port Isaac! I don’t know what I love more, the woodburner or the wooden floors. You can take a peek at the home HERE.
And speaking of cool properties…
We found a house! We did the inspection. We’re under contract. Sadly it’s NOT in the UK but it’s in the next best place… Southern Maine. Hooray!
The BAD news is we won’t be able to move in for about another 5 weeks {the sellers decision, not ours}. But the GOOD news is, the house ticked all the boxes for us. And some we weren’t even looking for!
As with all the other homes we’ve bought, it was the only house we looked at. It’s everything we need. It’s not a house for everyone {that’s for sure} and I even tried to talk the HH out of buying it {multiple times}.
But he and my mother both insist the place will be an ADVENTURE. An adventure Charlie.
In fact, I think my mother’s exact words were something like… You’re such a creative person. You are going to have so much fun with this place. This place NEEDS YOU.
You keep telling me all the things you would do to this place. You have already mentally moved in. Buy it! And if it doesn’t work out, you can sell it. But what if it does? WHAT IF IT DOES!? BUY THE HOUSE!
Did I mention my in-laws love it too? And even The Kiln Guy was like… It’s going to be okay. It will all work out.
Personally, I think we’re nuts. But now that I’ve calmed down about the whole thing I’m good.
It will be interesting, that’s for sure. 😉

Congratulations on the house! I cannot wait to see what you’ve bought and learn what your plans are. It will be wonderful, I’m sure.
Re Bark Airlines. With those prices, they are going after a market of people who are probably at least familiar with private flights when they travel. Bark does offer the all the dog-friendly things, and it sounds like they are ready, willing and able to deal with the inevitable accident, so that might be a good differentiator.

Congratulations! We all can’t wait to see it. Did you notice the porcelain dish drying rack in the cottage? I’d love one of those.

I did! I’ve never seen one of those before. I’d be worried about it breaking.

Congratulations on your new home! Sounds like you might have a blank canvas that just needs your inspiration. Enjoy this next adventure!

I’m not even going to ask if it is your forever house. I’m boring and could never move like you do, too much stress for me.

I hope Bark Air succeeds and that prices will come down to where it is more affordable for the rest of us to fly with our 4 legged family members. We were in the position of having to fly our 3 dogs several times, and I dreaded it each time.
Congratulations on finding your new home!

Congratulations – I want to sell my house too and move to another state !

Based on your description, I’m guessing it’s a house that needs major work. Something most people wouldn’t consider buying. If so, I can’t think of another couple who would be up to the task. Can’t wait to see what you bought.
Jeanine says
Ok….we all know that you will fix this new house and make it wonderful. The only thing…will you stay here or move on and find another place to fix up…probably so. You have a knack and know what to do with a place and can move on to another house again. It’s all good…we love to see what you do and wish we had all your energy. I myself will be looking forward to your next chapter…we love to be in the loop. Always exciting!

I am going to guess that cake is a hint and you are buying near Unicorn Cove in Maine which is near Portland and you did visit a bakery there!

Congratulations! I can’t wait to see it!

I, too, noticed that “forever home” was missing from your description of this house. It’s OK. You’ll work your magic at this home, just as you always do.
I congratulate you on your choice, your energy, and your attitude toward moving yet again. You do it all with such grace!

A new house is fun. Just curious about what some of you ‘boxes’ were. On the water? One level? lots of gardening areas? I find myself looking at one story more these days as my knees get older. Congrats.
