Hello Thursday! I just thought I’d inform you that today is going to be a good day.
It’s a downright chilly morning in Maine {19 degrees} so I think I’ll get a little fire going in the woodstove and bake something. I just can’t decide if I want to use up the last bit of wild Maine blueberries for a pie, or attempt some sort of puff pastry dessert I spotted online. The day is young… we’ll see.
My winter tan arrived in the mail yesterday. π Have you tried this stuff before? It actually works without give you an orange glow. I’ve been using it during the winter months the past few years and it helps so I don’t look to washed out when I can’t be outside playing in the garden and soaking up the sunshine.
Not that it isn’t sunny in Maine during the winter months… because it totally is, you just don’t want to be outside soaking up rays when it’s 20 degrees out. We’ll at least I don’t anyway.
Yesterday the HH swapped out the tan outlets for white ones in the hallway and then started to install the light fixture. He got the base up and then went to get the glass part out of the box only to discover it was broken!!! He was not happy.
But I saw it as a sign… a sign that we had chosen the wrong fixture for the spot.
So after YEARS and YEARS of eyeing this Moravian star online and in catalogs, I decided to got for it and order it for the {indoor} entryway. After all, this is the house we plan to grow old in, so if not now… then when… right?
I few articles I came across this week that you might like to read:
- This article on Why So Many Artists Are Attracted to Maine.
- This article from the New Yorker on the faces of Americans living in debt.
And last but not least…. Check out this pink flamingo gas meter I came across on Instagram by tombobnyc !!! How cool is that? Mrs. HB if you are reading this, you totally need to paint this on the side of your house! π
Well that’s all I’ve got for today.
Have a great one, and stay warm.

Highly recommend the moravian star pendant. I have more than one and always will! I get many compliments from people walking by.
Recommend a warm-white bulb on the inside … I actually use a clear edison bulb from my patio string lights for the best look.
Love love love all the Maine pix and stories. Enjoy your chilly day for baking!

I am curious to see how bright the Moravian star light is. I would love to replace the fixture in my laundry room!
On another topic, have you ever had Moravian sugar cake? If not, maybe that could be your next baking project. It is so, so good!
Lesley says
Christie, I have several of the star lights and if you are looking for task lighting, they are not really good for that. Not sure what you need in your laundry room … but for ambient lighting, they are lovely.

Thank you Lesley!

Love the light fixture! It’s cool here as well (first frost was last night). I want to bake, but I mostly want to make Christmas tree-shaped sugar cookies, and it’s not quite time for that yet. I’m usually stoked about Thanksgiving, but this year I really just want to eat a turkey sandwich and dive into Christmas movies and cocoa.

I started watching all the sappy predicable love story movies two days ago. Lol. I donβt watch tv much the rest of the year and cram in those movies this time of year.

I bought a Moravian star light fixture a few years ago for our front porch. I still love it every time I see it. My inlaws, who live in New Harbor, ME, are from Bethlehem, PA where the Moravian presence is strong.

Contact Pottery Barn and they should replace the broken one. If you always loved the fixture….give it another try. The other light fixture may be very functional, but it appears to be too boring, in my opinion. Give it another try.

I’ve always wanted to try that Jergen’s Natural Glow. Do you think they make it in an ‘uber pasty’ shade? LOL I’m a redhead and one that isn’t getting a lot of sun lately…so I pretty much glow. But in an unearthly shade of pale.

Love the light fixture!
We are in the 70’s in TX. Sigh…………………….two cords of firewood and who knows if it will ever get used?

I like the Moravian Star. Go for it.

As an artist my introduction to Maine was a delight! Every dirt road or driveway had a sign “Artist Studio Open”. Living in Washinton now, Maine would be my second choice. They love artists!

Lucy is so cute:) I really like your new guest bedroom. Very nice indeed!

Do you use the lotion on your face?
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes.
Karen says
Thank you…just ordered. Need some color with all this staying in!

Yea Ms Mavis I am reading but…….I don’t think so! You know our HOA would have a fit. Now if I lived in Florida, which you know I would love to do, so missing the sun and warmth here in WA, I would totally do it !!!!
