bits and bobs: A random assortment of things; small remaining pieces and things
If you’re having trouble sleeping, you probably shouldn’t read this.
The most popular dessert the year you were born.
A green goddess salad at Panera is now $14.49! Seriously?
Campbell’s Soup Company has plans to buy Rao’s sauce. They say they won’t change the recipe… Do you believe them? I’m not so sure I do.
Imagine going to the thrift store in search of a frame and coming home with a masterpiece with an estimated worth of 250k! I love stores like this!
And last but not least… The family room in this John Bray Estates property. It makes me want to curl up with a good book and a cup of tea and stay there all winter. I’d probably put the stuffed animals in a closet though so I wouldn’t have to look at them. 😉
Have a great day everyone,

I’m always floored by prices when we eat out now. I recently paid $9 for a small coffee and a sweet treat from the day old basket. Both were delicious, but sheesh! We have a nice coffeemaker at home and I usually make my own now and bring it with me.
I have two little kids so meals out when one often won’t eat whatever is ordered makes cooking at home seem not quite as bad.

I packed my Littles mesls when we went to restaurants for years. They would rarely eat whatever was ordered for them and it made life easier. No one ever said anything (mind you it wasn’t fancy dining but not fast food either).
Virginia says
Your salad was actually $15.65 (including tax)!
And for those who feel coerced into leaving a gratuity, it would cost even more. As much as groceries have increased in price, the cost of eating out, for me, is just outrageous. I took my daughter through McDonald’s drive-through recently a noticed that a Filet-O-Fish sandwich, just the sandwich, was almost $9 (before tax). But these fast food and chain restaurants keep popping up everywhere — I guess a lot of people must be eating out and paying these prices without giving it a second thought. It’s definitely an immediate gratification culture.

I don’t feel coerced to leave a tip if I have to place my order at the counter and then go up to the counter again to pick up my food. Plus I always bus my table at Panera.

I agree. My issue with Panera recently was that I wasn’t told the dressing was already on the salad and I wasn’t given choices. That’s a big problem for me.
Lauralli says
As an interesting comparison I went online to order a Green Goddess salad at my nearest Panera. 12.99 I live in Arkansas. Kinda fun to see prices in different parts of the country. 🙂

I do NOT believe for one minute Campbells Soup will leave Rao’s products the same. I have several jars right now in the pantry and there won’t be anymore coming in unless proven other wise.
Sarah says
Personally, I’m counting on Campbells to change the recipe. lol! I’m probably one of the few people on earth that think Raos is one of the worst tasting sauces out there.
But I actually don’t think they will change it. They know it is too much of a cult classic. Companies usually leave those type of items alone.
Ramona says
I’m not crazy about Rao’s either. Plus it is expensive.
Cindy Brick says
Green Goddess is $13.59 in Castle Rock, CO, by the way…
seems quite pricey to me, too…but not really, compared to most other places around here. Red Robin’s doing a $12.99 salad, last I checked.
Do I order them, then? Noooooo….
Ashley Bananas says
That’s an expensive salad. I try and avoid eating out and even buying drinks out at all costs. I will pack a cooler of drinks with ice packs and snacks first even for small outings. I can’t justify the inflation. I recently went to a bingo hosted at a cafe. I rarely eat carbs anymore. I ordered the philly cheesesteak sandwich minus the bread, minus the homemade chips, and only the meat/cheese/onions/peppers….the restaurant still charged me $18!!! Great to support a local non chain restaurant, but ouch on the wallet. I try to never waste so I ask for bread etc to be left off. But man, you’re getting so much up charge usually for cheap ingredients like carbs.

Green Goddess salad $14.29 in DC. I do not eat or buy Panera anymore, I got tired of them always shorting me on pastries and bagels when I would pick them up or omitting ingredients from my order. They just never get it right and weren’t nice about it when I asked where the missing/omitted item was. I haven’t been there in several years.
Melinda says
The salad is 12.99 in Northern Virginia.
I treated two of my sons to Chick-Fil-A last night.
1 greek yogurt
2 large fries (of which they filled 3/4 of the way and was mostly the broken little bits)
1 milkshake
1 kids meal
1 bottle of water because this particular CFA didn’t offer the free cup of water that I usually get.
$28!!
We rarely eat out. It’s just gotten to be way too expensive.

Never tried Rao’s in a jar, but this is really good:

We went to a County fair recently (and military discount to get a few family members free, plus homeschool day to get a discount for the kids’ admission), and the prices were pretty outrageous. ONE HOT DOG was $8 with no sides or drinks. Just a dog and bun with a squirt of ketchup. I was shocked. We had planned to eat at the fair and let the kids pick some fun things, but I was still dealing with sticker shock all the same lol!
