Sometimes I wonder if I’m the crazy one. I really do.
Over the weekend The Girl and I visited a few more thrift stores {some big chain stores and some smaller independent ones} and were still surprised at how many similar items {baby stuff, housewares, furniture, clothing, canning jars etc.} were priced all over the map. Up until a few weeks ago, I maybe stopped by a thrift store once every other month. I wasn’t an avid “thrifter” if you will. But that trip to Value Village 3 weeks ago changed everything, and since then, I’ve kind been obsessed with them. Finding bargains is all I can think about. Only, finding bargains is becoming super hit or miss these days!
Take those used Carter’s cotton baby pajamas above… The Goodwill store we visited in Bellingham, Washington had them priced at $4.99. I can’t even remember seeing used baby pajama’s selling for $4.99 ANYWHERE until yesterday. At any given garage sale, those pajama’s would run $0.50. Or less.
Now, I TOTALLY understand that the Goodwill is a for profit BUSINESS, and that it provides jobs and training services, and has to pay rent and yada yada yada… but this post isn’t about that. Not at all. It’s about the fact that people are ACTUALLY PAYING $4.99 for used baby pajamas. I mean, they must be… right? Otherwise thrift stores wouldn’t be pricing these items so high.
But more importantly, if there are actually people out there who believe paying $4.99 for used baby pajamas is an awesome deal, I feel like maybe I need to write some basic tutorials and/or be making more of an effort to show people {the ones that want to listen anyway} easy and creative ways on how they could be maximizing their paychecks. You know what I mean?
Would you pay $4.99 for a used little girls denim mini skirt?
How about a used glass loaf pan {with TONS of scratches} for $7.99? Last week I posted a deal for a brand spakin’ new glass loaf pan that was on Amazon for $3.97. The price has probably gone up since then but still, I pretty sure you could get a new one at any major retailer for less than $5. Yet, people must be forking over $7.99 for used ones because apparently that’s what they’re going for these days at the big box “charity” stores.
Used glass Pyrex pie plates $3.99. Can’t you get a new one at Target for that? I suppose if you can, then the argument might be well shouldn’t we be buying used pie dishes rather than new ones to save the earth?
Ahhhh my favorite. Used stuffed animals. We all need more of them.
How about a trashed skateboard for $12.99? Would YOU or someone you know be willing to pay that much? Do you think $12.99 is a fair price? If not, what would you consider paying for the skateboard in the above photo?
In fact… Let’s make this fun. You tell me HOW MUCH you would pay for each of the items photographed and I will pick 2 responses from the comment section below at random and those two people will each receive a $25 gift card to my favorite store: Amazon.com.
How much would you pay for:

I am an avid thrifter. I am so disappointed at the high prices and the ridiculous pricing among the items. Name brands going for more than original pries in store. Dollar store items priced over $2 even when having store sticker right on item! Broken items priced as high as brand new. Batteries left in items that are leaking acid, mouse poop in and on items, items that smell like cat or dog pee. It’s shocking. I will continue looking as the same ones who do these are the same ones who will often let other really good items slip away for true thrift price!
Carol Strain says

Mavis, I have been lurking and reading your site and newsletter for maybe a year or so, and love it. You finally got me to post something! When I am at sales, people will say “it is such and such a price on ebay, so this is a good price”. Grrrrrrr. I am a sometimes eBayer as a hobby. There is a difference in a yard sale and eBay, Ladies’ t-shirts at Walmart are the same price as at Goodwill. Plus, they have taken to spraying some sort of nasty chemical pesticide or disinfectant all over the store and it makes it hard to breathe in there for some of us.
Teresa Young says
Wow, those prices do seem high!
Here’s what I would pay:
1) ,99 2) .99 3) $2 4) $1 5) .50 (blech!) 6) $2

I would only pay about 1.99 for any of the above items, with the exception of the skateboard. That, maybe 4.99, and the one you pictured isn’t even in good condition. Some of the thrift stores are getting ridiculous, and it takes the fun out of thrifting!
Carin says

Our Goodwill has flat pricing. All children’s clothes are 2.79/ piece. I have gotten new Easter dresses with the tags on them for that price, but have passed on pajamas that looked like they have been washed a million times. Thankfully, they have very good quality control at our local place and we seem to get a lot of dry cleaner non-pick ups, so I have managed to buy my husband many Brooks Brother Dress Shirts for 3.99. Lately, they are getting things that don’t sell from Pier One and Target. These things are ridiculously priced and we avoid them altogether.

We have a .99 Goodwill store where I live. EVERYTHING in the store is .99. Clothes, shoes, books, furniture, tv sets, everything is .99 except a few items in the showcase that are 2 for .99. When items have been in the regular Goodwill stores for a certain length of time, they get pulled and sent to this store. They bring out huge cardboard boxes about 3′ tall or more and you have to dig through them to find the goodies. My sister found an authentic Coach bag for .99 and gave it to me. It is the real deal, not a counterfeit. Someone found a purse that had money in it but I’m not sure how much. So, what I would pay for items from a thrift store is based on this store that I go to as often as I feel up to it.
#1 Used baby pajamas .99
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt .99
#3 Used glass loaf pan .99
#4 Used glass pie plate .99

I think thrift stores are starting to catch on that people are really shopping there because they have such great deals and taking advantage of that. They seem to be paying greater attention to the labels nowadays. (However, i’m not sure they always know what is a fair price for a USED name-brand item!) I’ve also wondered if they are pricing so that they get a decent amount when it goes for 1/2 price. (My store sells everything that hasn’t sold during half-price for $1 on Mondays–sometimes get a super-super deal on expensive items!)
#1 Used baby pajamas—$1
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt–really depends on quality and brand–$3
#3 Used glass loaf pan–wouldn’t buy if scratched up, but $1
#4 Used glass pie plate–$1-2

Hubby and I have started going to the local goodwill outlet center where stuff is priced right clothes by the pound books for .50cents.

At a thrift store this would be the maximum I would pay:
#1 Used baby pajamas $1.50
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt $2.00
#3 Used glass loaf pan $2.00
#4 Used glass pie plate $2.00
#5 Used stuffed animal $0.75
#6 Used skateboard $5.00
I would consider myself an avid thrifter. This would be the maximum I would pay if I really needed/wanted these things from a thrift store.
In my opinion garage sale pricing should be about 90% off retail, thrift stores about 75% off retail, and I don’t buy new unless it’s about 50% off of the regular pricing (or from somewhere like Costco where the regular price is already heavily discounted) and I only buy new when I can’t get it used for less.
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a 3-pack of those baby pajamas at Costco for like less than $10…. I agree that people must just go into a thrift store assuming they are getting a good deal without even considering what it costs new.
Eliza B says
I haven’t been happy with thrift store prices lately, either.
#1 Used baby pajamas – depends a LOT on the brand, for used Hanna Andersson in pristine condition at the thrift shop I’d probably pay up to $10 because they last FOREVER and I know both my kids will wear them. But for most brands, like the outfit pictured above, $1.50.
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt – $1
#3 Used glass loaf pan – if it was scratched up, I’d probably pass unless it was as low as 50 cents.
#4 Used glass pie plate – 50 cents
#5 Used stuffed animal – 50 cents
#6 Used skateboard – I might pay a couple of dollars for this, paint the edge, and put it up as a shelf in a kid’s room!

You are not the only one, Mavis! I stopped shopping at thrift stores because the prices are too high. I can shop online, get better prices for new stuff and don’t have to leave my house. It’s not right- I’d rather buy used when it makes sense, but it’s making less and less sense, unfortunately.

I am looking to pay one dollar or less for each of these items. I would pass on the skate board completely for safety reasons. In order to fill my price point I usually have to shop the first day of a new tag color. Half price days are about the only time I find my prices .I will not pay these prices for anything when I can use coupons at Kohls etc to buy new for the same or less. I agree with Amazon having great deals too.

#6 Used skateboard – 10.00 I dont really follow skateboard prices. But used ones would probably get new wheels from me and a new top skate deck cover.
Heidi says
The exorbitant pricing at thrift stores is the reason online sale groups have gained extreme popularity in the last years. Those prices at your Goodwill are new pricing not used pricing. And I too get these businesses have to pay bills and be financially sound but you also are a unique retail business not here to make millions off most society.

I wouldn’t pay more than $1 for any of that (except the skateboard. I’d go $5 there, but then not actually buy it because it’s beat to all hell). Those prices are bonkers… Especially during yardsale season.
Sometimes I feel a bit jaded about thrift stores. They offer charitable services and all, but I prefer to cut out the middle man and hold “free sales” on occasion, where people can just take my stuff and we both feel good about the interaction! I guess I just feel better about supporting people rather than supporting shops. No shame.

Wow $4.99 for infant pj’s is outrageous! Here’s how much I feel like I’d be willing to pay:
#1 Used baby pajamas $1.50
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt $3…looks like it’s in new or excellent condition
#3 Used glass loaf pan $1.00 for that scratched up on. I’d pay $1.99 for one in good condition.
#4 Used glass pie plate $1.99
#5 Used stuffed animal $0.99
#6 Used Skate Board $5.00 Looks well used.

I almost always only purchased items that were on color tag sale that week. Even better if there was a coupon to use as well. Sadly, my favorite Thrift store chain lost their lease & had to close. They assured me that it was a possibility of returning in the future, but there are no immediate plans.
I rarely shop Goodwill for the very reason you describe, though have been known to shop their Clearance center, where you pay about $1.80 a pound. You just have to be willing to look….. & dig through a lot of stuff.
I find the independently owned ones have better pricing, though several in ours area have closed.
I do love Thrift Store shopping & wish I had known about it when my kids were younger. I have helped out several friends w/ maternity clothes & baby clothes as well as a SIL who needs plus size shirts. I seriously have it down to an art. My wardrobe is 75% thrift. My husband hated it, but he’s learned that this wont change

Goodwill customers must have more money than I’m willing to spend.
Maggie P. says
Ok…so I would tend to pay a little more at a store, such as Goodwill, because they have other expenses. That is what I am going with here.

#3. Glass loaf pan only worth $0.50, but I wouldn’t actually buy it!
#4. Glass pie plate $1.00
#5. Stuffed animal. Just no. I really wouldn’t, but if it’s in great condition and doesn’t smell funky, maybe worth $1.
#6. Skate board. My nurse brain automatically switches to dented heads, elbows, knees. This would definitely stay on the shelf! But if someone is crazy enough to buy it, maybe $3. After all, they *do* get beat up pretty fast.

I’m curious where some of those prices are coming from. Cost of living is so different from place to place 🙂 My 2 cents from Seattle:
#1 Used baby pajamas – $3.99. That’s the cost at my local kids consignment shop, where everything is in good condition (no rips, stains, etc). I’d rather buy used than create new demand for cheap fashion, and I get to support a small business.
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt – I think those run 3-4 at the consignment shop? I’ve been blessed with girl hand me downs since age 2, so I haven’t had a need to duck into that section of the shop in a while.
#3 Used glass loaf pan – $2, if I bought used dishware.
#4 Used glass pie plate – $2, if I bought new dishware
#5 Used stuffed animal – 50 cents max.
#6 Used skateboard – that one was pretty worn, so maybe $5?

#6 Used skateboard – $4.99
I agree the thrift store prices have become really expensive. Its harder and harder to find a good deal. I have found some good deals on toddler shoes there though. I usually only buy things if they look like they are in really good shape and have lots of life left, or are super duper cheap. I think even garage sale prices are getting expensive. More people are trying to find those good deals these days too.
Kirsten says
1. Pj’s- $2.00 for Hanna Andersson or very high quality ones
2. Denim skirt – up to $4.00 if good quality and great shape
3. Glass loaf pan- $1.00 if spotless and new
4. Pie plate- same as above
5. Nope, never ever a stuffed animal. We had so many!
6. Skateboard-maybe ( maybe) $4.00 if in great shape.
And the kicker is, only if we needed each item. I was a weekly garage sale shopper and came home with terrific bargains, BUT most of it was not needed. Clutter and a waste of money!
Life lesson learned! ( kinda )

Crystal says
#1 Used baby pajamas – max price $1
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt – $1-2? (I don’t have kids, but it doesn’t seem like something I’d spend much on)
#3 Used glass loaf pan – $2 as it isn’t in great condition, doesn’t have a snapware lid, etc
#4 Used glass pie plate -$1-2, depending on if I really need it right now or can keep shopping around!
#5 Used stuffed animal – Fifty cents or less. The only thing I would use it for would be to give to my dog, and let her gut it. A few minutes of enjoyment from the dog is worth a few cents, but not more than fifty cents.
#6 Used skateboard – Max at $2. It is super beat up, doesn’t look like it has any great quality parts on it even.

Cindi says
um, I hate to break the news to you but you are forgetting a very big piece of financial information that hit the news waves a few months/weeks ago: it’s called ‘raising the minimum wage’. this is the result of paying employees a liveable wage. you can’t have it both ways. most of the employees of these thrift shops, as well as goodwill were making horrific hourly wages. now, they are being paid an increase. so where does that leave the consumer: higher merchandise costs. PLUS the employer MUST pay for health insurance if he hires more than 50 employees who work more than 35 hours a week. In addition to social security and medicare taxes. And I am certian his/her business overhead has increased substantially also. Duh.
It is immaterial how much you think you should be paying for thrift shop finds. Thrift shops are a business just like anyplace else.
The question you need to ask yourself is how much are new baby pj’s? J.C. Penny, as one example sells them from anywhere from $10 to $16. Here’s their link:
http://www.jcpenney.com/g/baby-pajamas/N-bwo41D1nox6v?cm_re=DEPT-BABY-_-S2-VN-5-_-Baby_Sleep&cm_re=S1-_-CAT-_-ZoneA-_-1
Now, to get a pair of used baby pj’s for under five bucks is a bargain in my book AND I would pay it because I am saving 50% over new. I also would not begrudge employees of thrift shops from earning a living wage. They are human beings too, also trying to make ends meet.
I wish you would stop complaining because if you haven’t looked lately the costs of practically EVERYTHING in America has risen. Boycotting Goodwill does NOTHING to help either these low income workers or your own pocketbook.
Times are tough lady, for just about every one. People who run garage sales too are waking up to the value of their ‘used stuff’ and hopefully are charging a fair amount for it. Paying fifty cents for a good used pair of baby pj’s is theft in my opinion. The person who originally purchased the pj’s paid their good hard earned money for it. You can’t expect them to just give them away. They still have value.
Get a life!
rachel says
You’re funny telling her to “Get a life!” when you’re the one reading and commenting and being so angry about the topic.
Linda says
Disagreeing with someone is not a license to be condescending and rude. You make some points that are totally lost in your attacking manner.
Jonesy says
No need to be so rude. Goodwill et al is heavily subsidized by being a non-profit with programs that help people. Pair that with everything being donated, so their overhead is pretty low. I don’t know where you’re shopping, but I have never walked into a Walmart and paid more than around $7 for a pair of brand new baby pajamas. I have a 6 month old, so I’ve bought them recently. Why would you pay more for something used than brand new? That’s the whole point of the article. They are outpricing themselves and that’s no ones fault but their own.
Cindy Rollins says
#1 Used baby pajamas $ 0.50
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt $1 (up to $ if in excellent condition)
#3 Used glass loaf pan $1
#4 Used glass pie plate $1

Most of that, I wouldn’t purchase these days. Back when I did need baby clothes, I went to consignment shops or good thrifts. I only shop on Thursdays (military discount) at Goodwill, very rarely on other days.
#1 Used baby pajamas – Nope, max of $1 if stain free/wear free, even then, that’s pushing it.
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt – Max $1, but I wouldn’t buy those anyway.
#3 Used glass loaf pan – Decent condition, no chips or scratches – max $2 (but I have 2 in my cupboard already)
#4 Used glass pie plate – $2 max, same as the loaf pan and I’ve got 1 in the cupboard
#5 Used stuffed animal – $0. We don’t buy these. Lil man “helps” when we go out treasure hunting and many times the people running it have “paid” him with a stuffed animal (oh, joy…)
#6 Used skateboard – $2-4, depending on condition or if it can be parted out to repair/replace on another board. But we don’t have skateboards, so that’s not something we would purchase.
I primarily sell kids clothes via consignment sales, twice a year. Spring/Summer and then a Fall/Winter. I don’t want the clothes back in the house and try to at least break even with buying the next year’s sizes. I put 2-3 outfits, shirts, pants, etc. on one hanger and price to sell. Since I try to work a couple shifts, I can get in on the early days before its open to the general public and then the same for the 50% off early day. I have to really, really want an item to buy it before the 50% off starts.

I volunteer at a charity thrift store in Canada(raising money for hospital equipment) and can tell you that the skate board wouldn’t make it onto our shelves, it’s too beat up. So, our prices for those items:
1: Baby pjs- we price at $1.25- must be stain free and not out of shape
2: toddler denim mini skirt- $1.25 or so
3. glass pan- maybe $1. Has to be chip free and clean
4. pie plate – same as the pan
5 stuffed animals- depends on the size- we sell them from 25c to $1.50 and many are bought by dog owners
6. used skateboard- my daughter once paid $5 for one with a fancy paint job (she didn’t skateboard, wanted it for the art). I wouldn’t pay 2c for a skateboard, since I’m not looking for broken bones.
Diana says
#1 Used baby pajamas – $.99
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt – $2
#3 Used glass loaf pan – $2 (but in reality, nothing, I feel like those things multiply in my house)
#4 Used glass pie plate – $2 (but I never make pie!)
#5 Used stuffed animal – $0 – that just skeeves me out!
#6 Used skateboard – $2? Maybe if it was in really good shape or was some fancy brand or something you could resell it would go for more?

Not much lasts until the week where it is “half price”

5). Stuffie- seriously, i would not pay a thing for someone else’s cooties!
6). Skateboard – too beaten up, leave it, it would not be worth bringing it home. If someone else’s kid has beaten it beyond recognition, wouldn’t last too much longer!
Erica says
1. Used baby pajamas $1, maybe $2 if it were a more expensive brand and completely perfect. I foster babies so i purchase a lot of baby items. I make it a goal to never spend more than $5 on brand new baby pajamas. You can always find them on sale or clearance.

It is surprising how pricey things are. Few bargains. You’ve inspired me to go look and figure out how much things are here. Have not shopped in a while as a money saving strategy. These prices seem silly. Especially the used canning supplies. Are they overpricing so they can have 1/2 off sales?
Judy bisbee says
BTW my best ever bargain was a reconditioned Singer Sewing machine at a dealer during a Washington’s Birthday sale. It was $0.99 and they made a house call one month later to make sure it was working well!

Hard for me to imagine paying anything for most of those items because I get so many hand me downs for that sort of thing, but if I HAD to:
1. $1 (IF it was some really adorable pattern or something that really caught my eye)
2. $1
3. $2
4. $1
5. $0.0 – no and no – I would never pay for a used stuff animal – I don’t want any NEW stuffed animals but alas relatives seem to love getting them for the kids – honestly I would only ever get stuffed animals for free – would not pay a cent for them
6. $4? I did just buy a new larger bike for my son at a garage sale for $20 but it was in what I thought was really good condition and retails for $80 – i don’t know much about skateboards but that one does look pretty worn and would take a bigger investment of new parts in addition to what you spend on it, so I think $4 would be more than fair
Jessica Shibley says
Hi! Good game. 🙂
#1 $1 if they looked brand new and I thought they were really cute. $.50 otherwise.
#2 Same as pajamas. $1 if it was the cutest thing I ever saw. Otherwise $.50.
#3 $.50
#4 $.50
#5 I would pay NOT to have to bring it home. 🙂
#6 $2 and I would try to make one of those swings you see on Pinterest out of it.
I love to spend buy things with change at yard sales, preferably change that I’ve made by hosting my own yard sales. :). It makes my yard sale-ing buddies embarrassed, but they are the type to go to the bank and get a $20 before we start shopping which to me is like spending real money, whereas I feel like I’m just using up change that might never be used otherwise- making my purchases practically free! 🙂

#3 Used glass loaf pan $.75, they are at garage sales all the time.
#4 Used glass pie plate $.75, same as above.
#5 Used stuffed animal $1.00, only if it were a Kohl’s cares to go with a book.
#6 Used skateboard $2.00, it looked really used.
Jill says
#1 Used baby pajamas: 50 cents to $1 (unless it was one of the thick baby sleep sacks, I’d pay up to $3 or $4 if in great condition)
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt: $1-$2 in good condition
#3 Used glass loaf pan: $2 (if not scratched up or covered in dark spots)
#4 Used glass pie plate: $2 (if not scratched up or covered in dark spots)
#5 Used stuffed animal: Wouldn’t want it if it was free. I just don’t feel like there’s a good way to clean them thoroughly.
#6 Used skateboard: The one pictured I wouldn’t pay more than $1 for. If it was a really nice one in good condition or had a neat design the kids really enjoyed I might pay up to $5.
The last few times I’ve been to a for profit thrift store I have not found any good bargains. I’ve been finding more that I prefer the little independent or church run ones. Maybe not always as clean and fancy, but definitely way better deals to be found. It’s crazy to see used things priced above the sale price of a new item. The only thing I can think is that either someone really doesn’t know, or that those items only sell on the “half-price” tag day. Even at half price they are sometimes not even worth that much.
Gerri Gerling says
1.Used Baby Pajamas – $1.00
2. Toddler Denim Skirt- $1.00
3.Used Loaf Pan- $2.00
4. Used Pie Plate- $2.00
5. Used Stuffed Animal- $.50 to $1.00 depending on condition and cleanliness; I would put it in dryer to be certain it is disinfected.
6. Skateboard- not of interest at this point in my life; however I would not pay more than $5.00 if in good condition.

I am from Michigan. We recently traveled to Omaha Nebraska for a British Fest (who would have thought of a british festival in Omaha ha!). While traveling we stopped at a garage sale somewhere in Iowa. I bought a 9×13 glass Pyrex baking pan WITH a lid for 75 cents. That is why I do not shop at Goodwill or Salvation Army any more. Any items I want to donate I take to a couple charities in town that give the stuff to people in need. I am tired of paying high prices and giving my stuff to the big “charities” so they can pay their executives ridiculous salaries. It’s a charity, they should be willing to work for a reasonable salary. But that is just my opinion.

6. Skateboard: as it looks I would say no more than $5.00 but I don’t know anything about them.
Goodwill has increased their prices but I did get to purchase a beautiful 1920 No. 66 (Lotus Decals) Treadle Singer Sewing Machine in a very good condition cabinet for $126.00 (that was with the senior discount). After researching about these machines, I did not pay too much. I absolutely love her and she works perfectly. But on the other hand, they have priced men’s shorts out of my price range – $10 for a pair of worn out shorts that I wouldn’t let my husband out of the house wearing. Shorts in the condition I saw them wouldn’t even make it into my Goodwill donation box.
Sara says
Those aren’t thrift store prices, they are outlet store prices.

#3 Used glass loaf pan. Scratched? Might explode. Wouldn’t buy.
#4 Used glass pie plate In good shape? $1 (only if I needed it tho….I have 5 already)
#5 Used stuffed animal NOPE. Too much chance of bringing germs and bugs home. Not buying at any price, including free.
#6 Used skateboard Max $5 but would prefer to pay $2. (Shape it was in would determine how much I would pay)
Our local Goodwill has $1 Sunday’s. Everything priced in a certain color is $1. THAT’S when I used to buy stuff there….now I don’t go there AT ALL since I learned it was a business and does NOTHING in our local community. (I understand that they may do things in other communities to help the handicapped….but not here in my area)
Erica says

I would pay:
$0.50 for the baby pajamas
$1 for the denim skirt
$1 for the loaf pan
$1 or less for the pie plate
$0.50 for the stuffed animal but only if my kid was with me and caught me in the right mood
$2 for that skateboard
Sheri says
well I am not really qualified to answer most of those ( no kids) but ..overall $2 or less..what do the Carter’s brand pjs sell for new and were they in good condition? In all honesty..a lot of the daily deals you post for clothing/outerware etc.. I wouldn’t pay THOSE prices for NEW clothing even on a deal..and I pretty much wonder why anyone would unless they were really needing top gear for their professional mountain climbing gig or something…… So if someone wants the ‘name’ and 4.99 is a lot cheaper than new.they will buy it..So I guess shaking your head in amazement at the prices of used stuff is kind of funny when a lot of us do the same at prices at new..
Jaime says
The prices for items #1 and #2 (the baby pjs and the girls’ denim skirt) are what I’d pay for new clothing on the clearance rack at TJ Maxx or Ross or Kohl’s, not for used at a Goodwill. I don’t have little people, so whenever I shop for kids, it’s as a gift and I’m looking for cute, but cheap–kids grow and get messy, and kids’ clothing is not an investment. As for the other items, #3 and #4 (the Pryex), I’d pay $1 each if they were pretty colors, but would pass for clear glass, especially at those prices! (You can buy new at Target or Bed, Bath, and Beyond for those prices!)

#4 Used glass pie plate: $2.50
#5 Used stuffed animal: $0.00 I have never and likely would never buy a used ‘stuffy’ unless it was in pristine
condition-but that would still be a maybe!
#6 Used skateboard: $5.00
*My prices are in Canadian dollars! lol The main things I buy at the used clothing stores are wool blankets, silicone baking and silicone ice cube dishes the very odd small appliance (hubby is an electrician so he checks them over really well before hand) and clothes for me since I have lost 80lbs over the last year and still going strong…no need to buy name brand or even brand new while on a weight loss journey, some items I only get one wearing out of before I have to pass them on! Mavis, I do think you need to do the tutorial on maximizing your pay cheque…so many people wouldn’t step a foot in the door of a used clothing store…my kids were raised on used clothing stores, I worked in one and saw what people -GAVE AWAY!
Vanessa Strawder says
I would not pay more than $1 for the pj’s or the denim toddler skirt. Maybe $2 for the baking dishes; no more than 50 cents for the stuffed animal and the skateboard is difficult – my son skateboards and depending on what brand/condition of the wheels, etc. would make the price go up or down, but I can’t imagine paying more than $5 even if good brand.
I agree though – I’ve been running into pricing being way too high in Goodwill. I have been able to ask them to take a lower price, but doesn’t always work.
debbie in alaska says
Ooh fun! Keep in mind I live in Juneau, Alaska and most EVERYTHING is expensive here — like Hawaii level expensive. So with that being said …
#1 Used baby pajamas < $3.00 (mainly because the cute factor — I'll pay more because something is stinking adorable)
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt < $2.00
#3 Used glass loaf pan < $1.00
#4 Used glass pie plate <$1.00
#5 Used stuffed animal <$0.50

#6 Used skateboard $3 or less
Angela D. says
Hi, Mavis!
1.) $ 1.99 only if no stains or signs of wear, though.
2.) $ 1.99 only if a high-end namebrand, not store brand
3.) .25 or maybe nothing at all. You’re right: look at Target or Amazon
4.) $ 2.99 only if new or like new
5.) Stuffed animals? NO WAY! Like a previous commenter said: They pay ME to take it!
6.) $1.99
We have been donating a TON of stuff to Goodwill over the last five years. I might be rethinking that…..I’ve got to
do a bit of research into where I donate, as I don’t have any idea of how they’re pricing things.

Just another motivation for you to move east. Here in my area, we have great thrift stores, with reasonable prices—Goodwill & Salvation Army as well as small church thrift stores. Rye Congregational Church Thrift Shop looks like a well run upscale boutique–with new and nearly new brand name items and rock bottom prices.
And our local farmers’ markets are now all running and the prices are right. Keep chipping away at the mortgage—and then “come on down, the price is right.”
Mavis Butterfield says
So far my all time favorite thrift shop is Beverly Bootstraps in Beverly, MA. The Girl and I always find treasures in there and it’s an awesome place for used furniture. And, I’m following the seacoast farmer’s market in Instagram. 😉 AWESOME stuff!!!

I might have told you this on another post years ago but I have had the worst experience with Goodwill that I have called Badwill for a decade. Not once but on two separate occasions they RAISED the price of items on me based on how I look. Which I was so shocked and confused at I just paid and regret endlessly because that’s ILLEGAL to change the price on a marked item.
Now that my vent is over…let’s play the game. I love a good game and can’t wait to read the other responses.
#1- $1
#2- $2
#3- $1 {you can get such great deals on sets of Pyrex dishes at every big box store and online}
#4- $1 {ditto above}
#5- ZERO. You would have to pay me. A lot. Like a lot a lot. My gag reflex is very literally kicking in and I just think it’s so gross to resell a stuffed animal. Bleh!
#6- I don’t know…I’m still not over #5. Maybe $5? I would have to google to see if it was a brand worth buying used. And who knows if I could stand there long enough to do that with all the germ festering stuffed animals lingering. {I seriously can’t let that go. }
I like thrift shopping from time to time but have to be in the right mindset to move through all the bits. I have seen a lot of people post amazing clothing finds but I’ve rarely been so lucky in that department.

Goodwill can be super pricey!
What I would pay:
#1 Used baby pajamas – $1
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt – up to $3
#3 Used glass loaf pan – not more than $.50, but I’m sure I’d skip this one
#4 Used glass pie plate – $1
#5 Used stuffed animal – nope, not buying used stuffed animals…gross – $0
#6 Used skateboard – if my daughter were with me and begging for it 😉 – probably not, but up to $2
Tammy says
The thing that’s crazy is those little pajamas are so expensive new! Up to $20! But I still wouldn’t pay more than $1.
Susan Meier says
At our local thrift store that’s run by the Churches in our town of less than 2000 we would pay 25 cents for most of those things except the clothes which would be 50 cents. The skateboard might be a $1. Those prices are the reason they are always packed full of customers. This thrift store also operates a food pantry and many other projects in our town. This store definitely spoils the appetite for the overpriced thrift stores. And the store upkeep is completely funded by these prices.
Brenda says
The costs go up because dumb people drop it off in crappy condition and the stores have to dispose of it. Also some stores are strictly for profit (pay their CEO$$$$$) even though they have non profit status. I try to stay away from GOODWILL because of their profit taking ways. Shop smaller thrift shops and negotiate whenever possible. Today I got 14 pieces of like new clothing, toddler shirts, adult T’s for 25 cents each. Collectible stuffed animals (toss in the laundry) 25 cents each too! A mikasa trinket box and a Noritaki colorwave butter dish for $4. I can resell both on ebay for over $25 profit.
But I also saw a pair of shoes that were missing the sole…think drug stash…..WT HECK!
Holly says
#1 Used baby pajamas $0.50-1.00
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt $3 but wouldn’t buy a toddler a mini skirt
#3 Used glass loaf pan $3
#4 Used glass pie plate $3
#5 Used stuffed animal $0 for the one shown up to $5 if it’s one my kids collect. Sometimes an item will be at a yard or thrift store and have tags still.
#6 Used skateboard $0 now but up to $15 if my kid was into boarding. New boards are expensive.
Prices in the bay area (California) are crazy high so that is my point of reference. I know the chain thrift stores here price similar to what you posted but then mark down as the items age in the store or do certain sale days.
Carrie says
I frequent our local Goodwill. It is right by the Fred Meyers I shop at so stopping in is easy. I keep a list and buy ahead for my two boys. I don’t always buy something but still find lots of great deals. I shop almost exclusively what is marked down. I will pay full price for high quality items (REI or other top outdoor brands). The only other time I will pay full price is if I am looking for something specific and it is in top quality or for like New shoes and kids boots as they are harder to find and don’t often go on sale.
#1 Used baby pajamas: $1
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt: I don’t buy kids clothing unless it is name brand and on sale at Goodwill I think it’s $1.79 or less.
#3 Used glass loaf pan: $1, unless I really needed one I might pay $2 for a brand name one in good condition
#4 Used glass pie plate: $1, same as above
#5 Used stuffed animal: I would never buy one
#6 Used skateboard: That particular skate board looks well loved. I would maybe pay $5 if I wanted it for some kind of project. If my kids wanted one I would pay more (not really sure what the going price is for a quality New one) if it was in excellent condition.
I will pay full price for items for myself if it is high quality name brand. I don’t get to shop for myself as often (I am usually there with my two littles) so when I get a chance I buy what I like figuring it is still considerably less expensive than full price and when would I actually make it to Tacoma by myself to shop.

I will pay for nice brand name clothing for myself up to $5 per garmet but it’s got to be in really good shape. I’ve noticed a major increase in the prices at Goodwill. We have a couple of places that run quite a bit cheaper. I get angry at the prices some places ask for things. It’s ridiculous! I feel bad for people who have to depend on these places to clothe their children. And to top it off the items were donated to them. Drop the prices and I’m sure the sales would increase!
Lace Faerie says
If I am on the hunt for something specific, I will only shop Goodwill on Mondays and then only for the special tag color of the day. So, $1.29 for anything originally $3 or more, or 1/2 price of anything originally under $3, IF AND ONLY IF the resulting price is LESS THAN 25% of the Walmart price for brand spanking new.
Bargain hunting while thrift store shopping is fun but I won’t let the thrill of the hunt go to my head if it’s something I really don’t need. I try very hard to keep within my own self imposed cost guidelines.
That being said, I used to thrift every week as a fun outing with my Dad but that was a couple of years ago when the Goodwill weekly sale prices were $.99 on Mondays. The cost of living has not driven up the prices of items at the national thrifting companies, it’s the greed of their CEOs, IMHO.
When I’m looking for big ticket items, I will check Freecycle and Craigslist first. And I wil offer things on Craigslist and Freecycle first before I donate to anything other than a local church’s clothing bank, or the women’s shelters.

#5 Used stuffed animal: I wouldn’t purchase. Gives me the heeby-geebies.
#6 Used skateboard: I would defer to my husband. Asked him, he says he needs more information but based on the one pic, he says he’d pass, says it looks like a junky board.

Minimum wage is higher in your state than most. I don’t know, but maybe it is a contributing factor?
KC says
I wouldn’t buy any of those, because we don’t need (or want) them, so it’s a bit of a trick question.
If I did for some reason need/want them (and had access to regular retail options as well, including things like TJ Maxx), then my highest prices would probably be:
1. $1 (I don’t really know what that should go for)
2. $1 (but I wouldn’t dress a toddler in a denim miniskirt – doesn’t sound either comfortable or particularly functional?)
3. $.50 (scratches make it less appealing; if unscratched and a good brand, then $3-4)
4. $2 (I like pyrex pie plates)
5. $1 (but it’s hard to imagine circumstances under which one would need a used stuffed animal?)
6. $10 (if wheels/axles/bearings are really good quality in good condition – otherwise less)
Angel says
How much would you pay for:
#1 Used baby pajamas-$1.00 TOPS..you can buy at the carters outlet new for that
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt-$1-2… 2 is pushing it
#3 Used glass loaf pan-$1-3
#4 Used glass pie plate $1-3
#5 Used stuffed animal- $0.50 unless it was like a build a bear or something…then maybe 3?
#6 Used skateboard$3-5

It so interesting how thrift store prices vary. Although I realize they have overhead, I can’t help but to expect yard sale prices.
Kim Mann says
I can remember thrift stores when they were actually thrifty! Lately, here in KY thrift stores have gotten “above their raisin'” as they say. 1st off, I wouldn’t buy used baby pjs for $4.99 new! They’ll wear it a time or 2, then they’ve outgrown it or WORSE! So, in the spirit of Mavis:
#1 0.49
#2 $1.99 (maybe. And only if it’s new)
#3 no more than $1 in good shape
#4 again ^ see above
#5 Okay so here I cave. Once, anyway. I found the exact stuffed animal my son kept by his side 24/7. And kept me up until the washer & dryer stopped during times of stomach bugs. Ugh I paid $5.00 for it and was willing to write a check if I had to! I had looked high & low – even called the toy co, and they’re were NONE. What would i pay for any other? Nada. Zip.
#6 $2.00
Geez! This stuff is donated! I had a cousin who managed a Goodwill (GW fashions! Lol) and was making $60G a year! No wonder everything is so pricey!
Dara says
Kim – I’m also in KY and we’ve noticed the same problem. The only consistent good deal I find are church dresses for my daughters (3 and 5). They are the same price as any other dress – around $2-3, which is a great deal for something that has likely been worn once and I would have to pay $20+ for in the store. These are fancy “Easter” type dresses that my girls love to wear. I would never pay that for a sundress. Once I buy them and left the girls wear them for a season, I usually sell them and make a few dollars!

I’m quite cheap. I try to shop half off day or 30% off days at my fave thrift shop. They’ve been raising their prices lately. I’ve seen it happen before. I hope sooner than later they realize again that things don’t move at high prices. I would only pay between .50 – 99 cents for any of these items. I have splurged on my own clothing a bit. Like my favorite shorts were 3.99 and I got them for 2.00. They’re VS Pink so well worth it. The shoes I wore today I paid a whole 3.00 for. They are Minnetonkas though, would have cost me 40-50. My shop has the shorts prices up to 6.99 now. And books for 2.99. I hope this trend goes back to normal, because for me it’s taking a bit of my joy for looking for a deal away.

So I’m actually flipping thrift store items on a daily basis via eBay and local FB pages so I frequent thrift stores A LOT. Depending on where you are stores will do 50% off days so I feel like they’re upping their prices just because they want to see if it’ll sell for the higher price before it goes “on sale”. Also I think it’s crazy but I’ve been hearing that many stores look to eBay to price items which is ridiculous b/c eBay has such a wider customer base compared to a local thrift store. I don’t know I keep seeing thrift store prices go up and daily articles of retail stores declaring bankruptcy makes me wonder about the future of retail.

Joanne says
Not more than 50 cents each and would have to be in excellent condition! Skateboard – don’t know anything about what to look for on those so wouldn’t even consider it. Stuffed toys – you’d have to pay me to get me to take one!

Oh my gosh!! I’m totally with you on this! And I am so glad you are blogging about it because I thought I was the crazy one as well. You can find any NAME BRAND (think Gap, Old Navy, heck even Target) kids clothing on sale for less than $5. You just have to check their close-out sales and stock up for the next season. I rarely pay more than $3… and that’s for brand-new, name brand items. The “thrift” prices are insane. Well, really people are insane for buying it at those prices.
I’m sorry- but I wouldn’t pay more than a dollar for any of it. The exception being the stuffed animal- that needs to be free. And I’d maybe go up to a few dollars for the skateboard.
Brianna says
I sold a huge amount of gently used or new stuffed animals at my garage sale last month to 1 lady. She was very obvious as she checked them over, for fluff, imperfections, odor, etc. After she purchased them I asked her if she was a collector because we had a ton of Disney store ones. She said ‘no’ and explained her spouse is a police officer and she washes them and he takes them to work and they put them in their cars to give to kids who might need a comfort item during a call. She told me a few stories of instances the stuffed animals were given to children. I was a bit surprised and was glad she has a mission with them.

I personally would not buy any of these items. In fact, at those prices I have a couple of pie plates and loaf pans I would sale, and I could probably scrounge up some stuffed animals. But, if for some reason I needed these items I would pay the following:
#1 Used baby pajamas – $0.50
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt – $1.00
#3 Used glass loaf pan – .50, maybe $1.00 if in real good condition
#4 Used glass pie plate – $.50, maybe $1.00 if in real good condition
#5 Used stuffed animal – $.25-$1.00, only if new with tags and I needed it for something like putting in Samaritan’s Purse shoeboxes-but I seriously doubt I would buy it
#6 Used skateboard – $0.00 this one’s in too bad of a condition, the parts might be worth something to someone, but not me, so I can’t even guess a value on it.

PJ- Name brand, $1 or less.
Skirt- $1 or less
Loaf pan- $1 or less
Pie pan- $1 or less
Skateboard- $2 or less for the wheels if they are the type for resale.
With five children they all wore 2nd hand clothes and I never paid more than $5 for something really special (i.e. name brand coats, new shoes, or items that were special requests for birthdays or holiday gifts.) Their everyday clothes were almost always under $1. Now that they are all out of high school they look back on old pictures and have often commented that they didn’t realize how many “cool, high end, name brand clothes and shoes they wore throughout school. They knew we didn’t shop at the malls so they are all now very conscientious shoppers with an eye for quality.
I have bought all of these household items over the years and I have even replaced some that I have with newer and nicer ones then resold my used items for the same amount purchased at our annual garage sale. Looking through my kitchen I have very few items that I bought new. Most of those new items were purchased thru garage sales. If I see wedding items at a yard sale then I stop since young couples have often sold duplicates from their gifts. My foodsaver was new in the box (this years newest model listed at $179) for $35, a new Calphalon knife set $3, list at $159.
My best pick yet this spring was a almost new 6qt. programmable Rival crock pot for free. My friends next door neighbor moved out and left it on the porch. They left dried food in it. So I took a chance and soaked the ceramic pot in hot soapy water in a bucket. Everything came out without a bit of scrubbing. Cost new $89. Timing was perfect since mine had died over the Christmas holidays and I had been in the market for a nicer one.
Linda says
There is a nice Catholic resale here- the pj’ would be .50, I have brought used heavy weight Carter’s sleepers before my grand was born for $2 they were in brand new condition. I’d not pay more than .50 at same resale. My daughter buys grandson’s at Kohl when on sale usually around 3.99 brand new.
0 for the stuffed animals- bed bugs etc- who has drooled on it. ick. Salvation Army here was charging 13.oo for one- said they were charging 1/3 price of ebay. I think they buy pallets of stuff from Target for one price. glass pans I will only buy on senior day when I get 30% off their prices- they have them as high as 6.00 but I look for the ones 3.00 or under. I will not skateboard etc. I cringe when I see underwear- they aren’t suppose to be used but I wonder. Salvation Army has .69 day for color of the week on Sat. I’ve gotten name brand blouse. You have to be picky, I always have in my mind what I will pay, then pay no more. It’s irrating- most stuff they get free. They put out a lot of broken items. Most people working at those places do not get full time hours- no benefits. They even hire people and find they’ve hired too many, so they let them go- I find that not acceptable- we know someone it happened to- he really needed that job, not many he could do.
L. bryant says
I forgot the big one#6. No stuffed animals. Unless they are branded for animals. If they are the good dog ones $1-$2.

#1 & #2- I get all of my kids clothes at a clothing swap or from friends… So I would probably have to go with $0. That’s what I would normally pay.
#3 & #4- maybe $1 each.
#5 – I do not buy used stuffed animals, that kind of grosses me out a little. Also, I’m not a huge stuffed animal fan.
#6- maybe $3-4? I’ve never looked at skateboard prices bc there hasn’t been an interest! 🙂
It’s been a while since I’ve been shopping even in a thrift store. Trying to do with what we have for a while… But I love the clothing swaps! I’ve also gotten (& given away) a lot of cool stuff!!

Two notes for any resale retailers:
1) Organizing your clothing by SIZE and not COLOR would sell more clothing. In Lubbock, TX, the Resale Center is much easier to shop at because clothing is organized by size. However, I’ve found many of their other items to be over-priced lately. Occasionally, I still find good deals on housewares, games, and pet supplies at Goodwill.
2) Whatever spray/cleaner Goodwill and Plato’s Closet is using causes my daughter to get a headache and feel sick… I can no longer shop there with her.

My only thought really was how any one of my children (10 and younger) would totally try to buy that stuffy for $6.99, but really because they have no true sense of the value of a dollar. It’s gross that its used, but to children that would be a stuffy worth loving forever and ever!! Hah! And, yes, I would try to encourage my children to choose something of a better value, and we would of course sanitize the heck out of that stuffy, but if my kiddo earned their own money and had it in their mind it was the item they had to have (I know from experience), that ridiculously priced used stuffy would be coming home with us. Sometimes I go to a garage sale or thrift store just to look and see if I can find a good deal, but sometimes I’m looking for something specific that I need and if om not able to find used my next stop will be walmart….so I would be willing to pay more…

Right now the only things I think are a good deal at my Goodwill are jeans – it helps that I can try them on. I recently bought a pair of LLBean jeans for $4 that look new. Books are much cheaper at the Friends of the Library book sale shelf at my library.
1 – baby pajamas 50 cents
2 – toddler skirt $1
3 – loaf pan $1
4 – pie plate $1
5 – stuffed animal 50 cents
6 – skateboard – this one 25 cents, $5 in good condition

I shop at Goodwill a couple of times a year. In my mind, I’m constantly saying “I could get that brand new for that price on clearance at Kohls or JC Penney”. We do have a local hospice thrift shop that I absolutely love. For the most part the prices are spot on for a thrift store. A few times a year when they get overrun with donations, they will have a 1/2 off everything in the store. If I want an item there and feel it is a little higher than it should be I just remember that it is really a donation. Each person admitted to hospice is treated free of charge and the families are well taken care of during a difficult time.
Here’s what I would pay for your list of items:
baby pjs – $0.50 – 0.75
toddler skirt – $1.50 or less
glass pan – $1
glass pie pan – $1
stuffed animal – $0.50 (my dog LOVES to rip them apart)
skateboard – $3 if it was in good condition (certainly not the one pictured!)
Kristin says
#1 Used Carter Baby PJs. $1.99
#2 Used Toddler Denim Miniskirt .99 cents
#3 Used Glass Loafpan .99 cents
#4 Used Glass Pieplate .99 cents
#5 Used Stuffed Animal .49 cents
#6 Used skateboard $3.99
Key here re: thrift store prices is – its USED. I think the persons who are pricing such items forget that. Doesn’t make too much sense to buy things used if they are upwards of the same prices new at the big box stores. Assuming you are into that sorta thing 🙂 Cheers!

I have noticed the steep increase in prices, especially on name brand items, No Matter their condition which is outrageous.
Our area tends to be higher than others I visit also.

Used baby PJs: I recently bought some in like new condition for 77cents.
Used toddler denim skirt: $1.00
Used glass loaf pan: In really good condition? Maybe $2.00
Used glass pie plate: Recently paid 99 cents for genuine classic, with great fluting on the edges. (But I make pies, so there is that.)
Used stuffed animal: They will have to pay me! (Unless it is Garfield and then I will pay 1-2 dollars for a gift for my friend, who collects them.
Used skateboard: Safety first, so I wouldn’t buy one.

I had to think of this post yesterday at Carter’s. They were having an extra 40% off clearance sale and I got 4 pieces of clothing for $9. Way better than thrift store prices which I agree at getting too high.

Actually a friend of mine was an executor of an estate, she gave me boxes of items to put in my garage sale and to keep any of the proceeds. Out of it she told me to also take what I wanted. There were brand new and some used glass pie plates, so I took all 4 for myself for free. And for clothing, I’ve gone to thrift stores where the clothing is stained, etc and still marked sky-high in price. I see jeans running for $5 for used jeans. I have some jeans from my sister with tags still on that i was selling for $5 to $7. Like you said, those thrift stores don’t really have much value in savings.

I agree you can buy some of these items new on sale for less than the prices they are selling them for. My daughter buys her baby clothes at a Carter’s outlet and pays 4.99 for new PJs!
Anne says
I’d pay $1 for each, except the skateboard. That I’d pay $10 for

Mavis, I love you! There are tons of comments, but I’m probably the first to say I could get pretty much all of these for free from my Dad’s camping trailer! LOL! Everyone come visit my dad!
It’s now his makeshift storage shed that has everything in it under the sun. I don’t even dare to mention that I need something or he’ll come up with 5 of them! 😀 Except the skateboard. Those are forbidden after my sister busted out her front teeth on one in the 70s.
We also have Deseret Industries stores here in Utah and they’ve started overpricing everything lately. I won’t even go thrifting anymore because it’s cheaper to buy new.
Chantel says
How much would you pay for:

Here in MI I have noticed an increase at the local Salvation Army and Goodwill. I am lucky we have a church thrift store walking distance where I find the best deals on really nice stuff.

#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt $1

Thanks Mavis for bringing up this subject. You’re right the prices in most thrift store are ridiculous.
Nina S says
I understand that they have overhead – BUT many of them are for-profit now. And those that claim to be “affiliated” with a charity simply pay a 501c3 a percentage of their sales or a set amount per pound for items donated to the thrift store in order to maintain that “affiliation” (and it’s like $.30/lb). Soooo…. the charity benefits from the thrift store sales, kind of.
Bonnie Schmidt says
Sorry – $1 for skirt, pans, and stuffed animal.

#1 Used baby pajamas – $1
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt – $1

The thrift stores in Ohio run sales every other week. I think that people “think” they are getting a good deal when the prices are set high and they purchase them for half off.
Rachel D says
Personally, I have stopped trying to shop the thrift stores in my area as they have skyrocketed their prices and you are paying the same as you would at Walmart or Old Navy online, etc. Not worth it for me. That being said, here is what I would pay:
#1 Used baby pajamas– $0.50 if no stains, if stained no thanks.
#2 Used toddler denim mini skirt–$0.50 if a name brand and not stained
#3 Used glass loaf pan–$1.00
#4 Used glass pie plate–$1.00
#5 Used stuffed animal–Umm…not going there. We don’t buy stuffed animals used.
#6 Used skateboard–$2 maybe if my kids begged for it. I wouldn’t normally buy one.
It has been interesting reading the different comments. Thanks and have a great weekend!

I like thrift stores, but I am still a bargain shopper. We have a local thrift store with 1/2 off every Wednesday, so that is the day I go there to shop, along with everyone else in our area.

1) .50 at most – preferably no more than .25 since at garage sales around here it’s 5/$1 for kids clothes.
2) – name brand – $2, off brand 1/4 the price new. Ex:childrens place $2 (just bcuz their denim lasts FOREVER!) walmart brand .75-$1
3)& 4) honestly i wud buy new since they’re like$4-$5 brandnew and i’m such a dork any inclusions that can sliver. But IF i found one that was brandnew mayb $1 ea.
5) hmmmm maybe $1 (after it sits in the bag for a month tied up, lol)
6) that one $3, i have paid $8 for one that has a handle for kids to learn to skateboard.
