Back in 2019 I found the Camp Wool rug hooking store in Kennebunk on a visit with my friend Heather. I immediately fell in love with the place.
For all you non hookers out there, finding a store dedicated to primarily wool, is pretty hard to do. So of course I kept finding reasons to pop in to see what was new.
But then the store lost its lease and moved to a different location.
After being in Kennebunk, Maine Camp Wool moved to Millbridge, Maine {up north past Bar Harbor}. But with the new location being so far away… I was never able to make the trek up there.
Well, as it turns out, the owners decided to move the store yet again {this time for good!} back down south to the town of Hollis, Maine.
And yada yada yada… I was in the area so I popped by to have a look around and holy cats man, the store is bursting at the seams not only with wool, but tons of quilting fabric, patterns and notions too!
I was a bit overwhelmed when I first walked in. There was SO MUCH to look at, I didn’t know where to start. 😉
I’m not into wool applique, but if you are, there are oodles of kits and patterns available.
My favorite part of the store though, was the wool section {of course it was!}.
Although I already had most of the wool they had on bolts at home, I was able to find a few new ones that I didn’t, so I swopped those up quickly.
I don’t covet or hoard anything {just as my husband}, but wool is my kryptonite.
If you are a quilter, and are anywhere near Hollis, Maine, I would seriously take a day trip to the Camp Wool store to check out the fabrics.
I kept thinking about my friend Zoë and all the quilts she makes and how she’d love the place.
There were two rooms dedicated to just patterns. It was crazy!!
Tons of punch needle.
Tons of wool applique.
Camp Wool also has a classroom on the second floor of the store {lined with hooked rugs on the walls!}
Shop on the bottom floor, stitching/hooking studio on the top. A winning combination if you ask me.
Camp Wool in Hollis, Maine. Go check it out!
Keep calm and craft on. 🙂

BRILLIANT! their website is fab too – lots of classes etc – I’m recently looking to learn.
I haven’t a crafty bone in my body, but, in a funny moment for me, I bought an Erhman needlepoint kit because, well, the red fox glancing over his shoulder was too gorgeous to pass by. (Also, I couldn’t find it to buy as a finished pillow, or I would have.) Since then I’ve been on a mission to find a needlepoint class. I am on the east end of Long Island in New York; any Mavis followers reading this that might point me in the right direction?

Oh my goodness, I shaking just reading about this shop! If I am ever in Maine again, you find me at Camp Wool driving in a LARGE van to haul all my wonderfulness back home to the West.
Wool shops are very hard to come by and a good one, even rarer.

I love fabric so I would love a store filled with fabric. But I crochet more than I sew, so a store filled to the brim with yarn would be my “heaven” and if it had a place for crocheters to gather and just crochet, that would be the icing on the cake! My area (north Florida) has the regular craft stores, and they fill a need, but there is nothing like the Camp Wool store here. Darn . . .

That was an exciting tour. I am in Alabama and have never seen anything like that. I want to find a place dedicated to needlepoint. I have had a thought or two about hooking a rug, but I don’t get it. I need to learn.
