Can Dogs Eat Cherries?
My Mother In Law is addicted to the Gold Belly website and keeps sending us care packages. Last week it was peaches from Georgia, this time it was a 5 pound box of cherries from Washington state. I think she thinks since our garden is kaputz this year, she’s worried about us going hungry.
Yada yada yada… Lucy thinks every package that comes to the door is for her. And so naturally she was right by our side as the HH opened our latest care package.
And once he did, and saw that there were cherries inside he was like… Can dogs eat cherries?
Good question I told him. Well, yes and no. let me explain.
You don’t want to feed dogs any leaves, stems, or of course the cherry pit. The pit can contain small amounts of cyanide but even if it didn’t who in their right mind would want their dog to eat a cherry pit?
Also don’t feed them too many, duh. I could have eaten all 5 pounds of these cherries in a single sitting they’re so good.
It is important to remove the pits and stems from cherries before feeding them to dogs, as these can pose a choking hazard and potentially cause intestinal blockages. Also, cherries should be given in moderation due to their high sugar content. Doggy owners should always be sure and monitor for any signs of digestive issues or allergic reactions as well.
Lucy liked them after sniffing the cherry and spitting it out of her mouth once.
These are probably some of the best cherries I’ve ever eaten and that’s saying something coming from Washington state. Of course they did ship from Chelan, Washington a town that’s known for it’s amazing cherries.
So can a dog eat cherries?
Yes! Just remember …. like everything else that is good, moderation is the key. They are perfectly wonderful for the occasional snack for the pooch.

It’s purported that President Zachary Taylor died from eating a large quantity of cherries and milk. 😉

Hi, Maybe Lucy needs to send her Grammy the Chewy website address so she can also get goodies in the mail.

Lucky Lucy! Those cherries look so good! My dogs love all kinds of fruits and veggies! We are in North Eastern Indiana. I can’t remember when we had a good piece of fruit. Nothing is sweet and juicy. I try to stop at local veggie stands when I see them, but I don’t get out so much anymore.
