Let this be a warning to those of you with teenagers that can drive. Do not, and I repeat DO NOT send two teenagers to Costco to pick up “a few things for this week” no matter how tired you are to go to the store. It just ain’t worth it folks. Not if you are trying to stick to a budget anyway.
I HAVE NO IDEA why my son didn’t throw a ginormous bag of Doritos in the cart… is there a Doritos shortage going on? Very strange if you ask me.
Every year for his birthday the HH’s parents send him a cooler full of Omaha Steaks. It’s such a fun gift to receive because we can all enjoy it. 🙂 🙂 Have you tried their pre-cooked bacon? It’s yummy!
The kids favorite part has always been experimenting with the dry ice though. {Obviously no one TOUCHES the ice}. Would you believe they hung out in the kitchen playing with it for 30 minutes together?
Now on to the food. It was a good week in the home cooked meals department. I didn’t photograph everything we ate, but I did remember to snap a few pictures to share.
The Girl has been making the HH his favorite strawberry pudding cake on his birthday for the last 15 years. It rocks!
Earlier in the week we made The Best Chocolate Cake on the Planet Earth.
I tried out a new salmon recipe and it turned out delicious {I’ll post the recipe tomorrow}.
Freezer meal chicken enchiladas were a hit.Â
We had waffles with blueberries as part of a breakfast dinner. {I LOVE those nights!}
And last but not least. Fried potatoes. My daughter makes these at least a couple of times a week. I’m not sure where she picked up a love for friend potatoes, but chances are if she’s making breakfast {or dinner} for the family, potatoes will be involved. Ha!
How about YOU? Did you make anything exciting last week? Do you kids ever do your grocery shopping for you?

Would you share how she makes the potatoes? I really struggle cooking potatoes!
Mavis Butterfield says
I’ll see if I can get her to write down her recipe. 🙂

I had a friend tell me several years ago to microwave whole potatoes until they’re about half way cooked then let them cool. Then slice or dice and fry in hot oil as usually done. They will cook up so nice and not fall apart like they used to do for me when cooking them from raw.

If your kids only went over budget 4.00 and change then I say you got off LIGHT! 🙂

Today, I am making your taco casserole, now one of my favorite recipes! My kids have their own kids, one of whom is old enough to shop. I doubt he brings home anything but junk.

They made some pretty healthy choices. I would have expected more junk food. I think the sibling bonding on a trip like this is priceless!!!
