I spent $39.93 stocking up at Costco this past week. They had some great deals like 5.5 lbs of apples for $3.99 and $3.99 for 2 lbs of organic green beans. I can’t remember if Monkey Boy’s Pop Tarts were on sale, but I think I paid $5.69 for a box 48 sugary sticks of cardboard for him. 🙂
I had planned on buying fresh orange juice, but as I was reaching into the refrigerated case I noticed the 4-pack of fresh orange juice expired in 4 weeks. Although I was pretty sure we would drink one bottle a week, I popped over to the freezer section to see how much frozen concentrate was going for. Well would you believe the 6-pack of frozen orange juice concentrate was only $0.20 more than 4 bottles of fresh orange juice? Â Yes it was!
I don’t normally buy frozen orange juice so I wasn’t sure if there was a big taste difference or not, but I went ahead and threw them in to my cart. When I got home I rinsed out the old OJ container, added the concentrate and waiting for someone to notice. Â And they didn’t!
I felt so sneaky. 🙂 🙂 🙂
I’ll totally admit, I was pretty lazy and making homemade meals last week. The HH was sick, I felt like I was coming down with something {so I of course stayed in bed as much as possible} and Monkey Boy worked several days after school. So for the most part, I served homemade chicken soup, chili, split pea soup and a stuffed manicotti and spinach freezer meal when dinner time rolled around.
Breakfasts last week mostly consisted of eggs, bacon, waffles and/or toast.
I did manage to make a double batch of peanut butter cookies though {one to eat and one to freeze}.
Last week I also picked up 20 pounds of breaded chicken and 25 pounds cod fish thanks to my Zaycon credit.
I also made a boatload of fried rice.Â
And last but not least, did anyone else order a free box from Graze.com? Well, I was not impressed and I cancelled my subscription. Yes, the munchies were good, but the amount I received reminded me of those little snack boxes you can buy on the airplane for $7. Booo!
So what did YOU buy this week? Â Anything good?

You can freeze peanut butter cookies dough?!?!?!?! So I freeze chocolate chip, and white chocolate cranberry but not peanut butter. Anything I need to change on the recipe? Also those apples would make a great and easy apple crisp, I cheat and make mine with white cake mix. Delicious!

Hi Mavis, I was wondering how many freezers you have to store the large quantities of meat you buy ? I’ve considered buying a standalone freezer but I’m nut sure I’m ready to make the commitment.
Mavis Butterfield says
We have 1 chest freezer. We had 2 but sold one when we moved. Here is a link to the pictures–> http://www.onehundreddollarsamonth.com/easy-pantry-and-freezer-organization/

Thank you! I love seeing how everyone does there pantry. And your new post about food storage is interesting. I’m in Florida, so I have to be extra careful for bugs here. Thanks again!

At work we do a week if Secret Santa before the Christmas Holiday where we do small treats.. and then at the party we do a bigger gift. I decided to make some freezer meals for my person b/c she HATES to cook. I made the chicken spinach manicotti and only after I made it had the fearful thought.. She is ITALIAN… who gives italian food to the italian.. Well she told me she took it last Sunday to her parents and they shared it with a huge salad and garlic bread.. and everyone was astounded at how awesome it was! THANK YOU!
RE- Graze.. I got a groupon/living social deal on it and gifted to my mom.. she got 4 shipments and we cancelled.. not very impressed at all!

I don’t remember this, but my dad told me that one year, for Mother’s Day, my mom asked for a freezer full of meals. She worked and had two small kids. Apparently, I went with my dad to the store and we filled the small freezer above the fridge… My memories are of home-cooked meals, especially her home-made meatballs. I <3 Mom…

That’s hilarious! I totally got my graze box to eat on my last plane trip 😉 I can’t say I was too impressed either. I certainly wouldn’t spend $7 on one.

I got my free graze box and it arrived with it’s box bashed in. Then I open the bashed up box and saw the 4 teeny-tiny packets of snacks and laughed. I’m so glad I didn’t have to actually pay for those snacks. It’s a nice idea but the amount of money spent, wasted packaging, and the tiny amount of actual food… just isn’t worth it.

I picked up my first order of Zaycon cod on the 14th. My first thought was that the fish were on steroids – the fillets were HUGE! After we processed and packed the fillets into freezer bags and stored them, hubby and I battered and fried the fillets we’d held out and made a fish and chips dinner. The fish was AMAZING – flaky and moist. This is the 4th different product I’ve gotten from Zaycon and I can’t say enough good things about their products. Appreciate YOU turning me onto them………..:)

Did you freeze that rice? I make a killer fried rice and there aren’t usually leftovers but would be nice to double batch it! I never thought of freezing rice!

I have tried the graze thing a few times. After cancelling, they will continue to send discounted offers. The one positive thing I found was that it was all recyclable after eating the snacks. My biggest gripe is that if I liked a snack, I would want to be able to order a big package. So I stick with naturebox instead.
Mavis says
Oh I could totally see why that would be frustrating! There were a few things in the box I really liked, but certainly not enough to justify the cost!

When I see my favorite fresh juice on sale, I stock up then freeze it until I’m ready. Thaws great. I do this with orange and apple.

Would you share your recipe for the rice? What a great idea! And this sounds like a silly question, but what do you do with all that cod? Do you have recipes you would share? Thank you so much! 🙂
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes! I will make another batch this weekend and snap some photos and write down the recipe as I go. 🙂

Yay! Thank you! 🙂
