I popped into Costco right before I left for the east coast and picked up a few of the boy’s favorite things… doughnuts, popcorn, chicken skewers and a few other necessities. Well, I consider bread and eggs necessities, but maybe I’m crazy.
My husband isn’t known to cook, in fact maybe if I’m lucky he will cook once {or twice} a year. 🙂  I’m fairly certain all 24 of those eggs you see above will still be there when I return. But who knows, maybe he’ll get really hungry and pull up a you-tube video on how to scramble eggs. I wouldn’t hold your breath though. 😉
In my mad dash to leave I forgot to snap pictures of the pasta I made {and put into individual containers} and the frozen chili and soups I set in the fridge to thaw.
When I go on vacation… so do the boys so if I come home to a bunch of pizza boxes I won’t be surprised.
After 20 years of marriage, some things never change.

Ha ha my hubby hardly cooks too.

Well, my guy really doesn’t cook, either. He makes amazingly good French toast and will help with prepping if I recruit him. Cooking just isn’t something he does (or enjoys), so I’m okay with that. It works out because in general I like to cook, and he always appreciates what I make him to eat. 🙂

French toast is delicious. Not a bad thing to have him cook!

LOL….my husband doesn’t cook either. I love to cook and he’s happy to do the dishes so we make a great pair. Enjoy your trip!

I’m new to this site, and I don’t know your guidelines for spending an average of $100/month for food. I believe you grow a lot of food in your garden and even use some of it to barter. The part I’m wondering about is how do you account for eating out? If you buy food, and then the guys order pizza all week (I don’t know if they did, just assume so, to help me out), then the food you purchased and they didn’t eat, will last a lot longer into the month. Also there is the expense of the pizza and other meals eaten out, not to mention whatever you ate when you were at your second house on the east coast. I just don’t know what is included in the $100/month.
Thanks

Great question. When we travel, we use money from our travel budget for eating out. I will typically leave the boys with a little cash on the counter before I go and if they decide to eat out while I’m away, it comes out of the fund. Even though I joke about them ordering pizza, that would honestly be too much work for them LOL. They would rather eat what is in the cupboards or heat something up. 🙂

I haven’t had to buy coffee yet this year because my husband received 2 giant cases of K cups from my parents for Christmas. They give him a big coffee gift basket every year and it really helps our budget out.

What about coffee? I never see it pictured in your weekly groceries. I consider myself proficient at bargain shopping and couponing but it still costs upwards of $7.99 for a can of the cheaper stuff. I don’t dare ask the hubby to give it up for the sake of my grocery budget. Any thoughts?
