I’m headed to Boise, Idaho this afternoon to visit my friend Amberlina and to participate in the Boise Dirty Dash tomorrow. Yesterday, I was trying to decided whether or not to make blackberry ice cream or a blackberry pie and my friend posted this on facebook…
“Make a blackberry pie & bring it with you when you come tomorrow. A little pre-race fuel if you will.”
And my reply was “Can I take a pie through security?”
Amberlina “Hmmm. Doubtful. They will assume there is a bomb in it probably.”
Then I found this on the TSA website-
So YES, you can bring a pie on an airplane, BUT pies are subject to additional screening. Hmmm. What does that mean? What are they going to do to my pie?
Will the TSA taste the pie? Will they scan it?
Will they make ME taste the pie?
What DO YOU think?
I have no idea, but I’m packing a few forks just in case.
To Be Continued…

They will probably put it through a box like when you bring juice for toddlers and breastmilk for babies.
I think TSA at seattle has a black box to put it in that scans for explosive components! Have a safe flight

Once they see it, I think they’ll say they have to try it, ‘just to make sure’ 😉

You’re not wearing a black shirt!
Mavis says
🙂 I had to wear the shirt.

If they make you try it, please act like you’re choking (for just a few seconds) so they have to decide whether you’re just caughing or if you poisoned yourself.
If they get mad just say it went down the wrong pipe.
Oh, and videotape it. 🙂

Mavis, as an airline pilot I feel it my duty to sample all pies passengers bring on my airplane, just for safety reasons of course. One can never be too careful. 🙂
Saralie says
You are not wearing a long-sleeved black shirt! Wowzerina, orange looks great on you!
Mavis says
You guys are funny!
Paco says
They will NOT taste it. Because they assume everything is bad, they will assume you poisoned it.

I didn’t realize you could take a pie, that’s great news. Last year my daughter was not allowed to carry on her small, unopened jar of peanut butter that she was taking back to college . Next time, I’ll put it in a pie crust….peanut butter pie 😛

We were able to bring a birthday cake on Alaska Airlines 3 years ago. I just brought it in the box the bakery gave us. They even allowed us to serve it to all the passengers who wanted some AND they sang “Happy Birthday” to our son to celebrate. I was thrilled!

Really! we can still plant Broccoli seeds – well, I’m out there tomorrow morning then.
But I guess the Brussel Sprouts will have to be starts and I don’t know who would have them this late.
Mavis says
It’s to late to plant broccoli seeds. 🙁 I would use transplants instead.

thanks – guess I’ll get to wait til next year.

I have celiac and am allergic to dairy. I have been able to bring all sorts of stuff on airplanes because of these conditions. I don’t even have a doctors note but I just act confident and nothing has been taken away. I should get a note just in case. I got weird looks for the peach cobbler, 5 avocados and some tomatoes from my last trip. They didn’t ask why I had them, they just stared at me funny and let me go through. Good luck with the PIE!

I took a portion of a chocolate cake on an airplane. They ladies at security went on and on about how delicious it looked. “Ohh, I’m going to have to keep this” and started walking away with it in tease. We ended up giving it to her anyway just to be nice. She was thrilled and walked away again with it to the office to indulge. P.S. This was long before 9/11 and new security restrictions.
