One of the stops on our 15 hour date day extravaganza last week was to Chase’s Daily in Belfast, Maine. Although we had been there several times before for their delicious pastries during the winter months, this was the first time we had a chance to stop by during summer.
The building {the former Odd Fellows Hall} is crazy rustic inside with it’s dark brick walls and old wooden floors. The place is very welcoming and we’ve even been there a few times when the place was so packed, there wasn’t a seat to be had.
The menu changes daily, but there is always an assortment of made from scratch breads, salads, sandwiches and pastries to fill your belly. Whenever we go, I’m always on the lookout for one of their fruit tarts.
So far I’ve tried the plum, the cherry and the blueberry tarts {with a cup of tea of course} and they’ve all been fantastic. The big draw to Chase’s Daily in the summer and fall months though is in the back of the shop. Where they have their own little farmer’s market happening.
Crates and bins of locally grown produce and farm fresh flowers. Made from scratch meals and local produce. Seriously, does it get any better than that? The whole set up is pretty awesome if you ask me.
People actually buy zucchini? 😉
If you ever find yourself along the mid-coast of Maine, be sure and stop in. It’s worth the drive, trust me.
Have a wonderful Thursday everyone, I’m off to tidy up the raspberry patch on the deliciously cool July morning.

The vegetable prices are quite high, we can’t sell our produce for anything like that here, it just wouldn’t sell! It’s totally worth more but people won’t pay it. Looks a lovely place.

Yeah, the price for the mesclun greens is outrageous. It’s super easy to grow and a $2.00 packet of seed will provide us salad all late winter, spring, fall and early winter.

wow! shocking high prices. radishes $3! a bunch. if people can grow their own produce maybe they can barter and trade for what they can’t grow. If you live in an apartment or have a job that doesn’t allow you time for growing food even if you have land available to grow on and no Aldi’s around it may be really bad once shortages occur due to poor planting this year because of weather. Build up a small pantry if only a couple items at a shopping trip. It has been predicted that this winter will be a doozy- esp. those of you who live in New England area.Be prepared.

i imagine it takes alot of the leafy stuff to make a pound, though. those prices look about the same as farmer’s market here in anchorage

Wonderful pictures, a great place to eat and savor. The freshest veggies in town. The prices are comparable and often cheaper than the farmers market. The variety and freshness are great. And oh the taste of the food in this restaurant! Try not to go there too hungry, as everything is made to order.
