One of my goals for 2024 is to seek out and try 24 new bakeries/coffee shops. Last week we stopped by Coffee Roasters of The Kennebunks to see what they were all about. And let me tell you Bob, they did not disappoint!
One of my favorite things about Maine, and New England really, is all the independently owned stores. After living in suburbia practically all my life it’s so refreshing to walk into a place for the first time and not see the same old things you’d typically find at a big box store. Or in this case, a Starbucks or other chain type coffee house.
Different and fun and quirky, these types of places feel real. Not manufactured or common in a way most of us are used to. It’s also nice to be able to meet the owners of these small shops and know that they are genuinely happy that you are there, supporting their shop.
Coffee Roasters of The Kennebunks, home of the $1.00 cup of coffee {or in my case tea!}/ What’s not to love about that?
Looking for a pint of ice cream or a pot of yogurt or maybe you have guests and need a few macarons for tea time? Coffee Roasters of the Kennebunks has it.
Looking for truffles? They have those too!
And what would a true coffee shop be without freshly roasted coffee beans? You don’t see that at Starbucks!
And you even get to bag your own freshly roasted beans. How cool is that!?
While you can get a fancy drink made at the counter, they also have a self-serve station too where you can get a $1.00 cup of coffee {or tea}. And get this… You can add your own flavor to your drinks. They trust you to do that here.
You can also get your own milk {or coffee ice cubes} in the fridge/freezer as well. It’s Maine. It’s homey. And different. It’s real, and that’s what I love about living here.
Did I mention that they have oodles of tea as well?
Bulk tea, tea tins, tea bags… They’ve got a little bit of everything.
What I think I love most about Coffee Roasters of The Kennebunks though, is their homemade breakfast sandwiches. Bacon, egg, cheese and a little fried potato. What more do you need to start your day?
This place gets two thumbs up from me.
If you ever find yourself in Kennebunk, Maine, check them out!

Small towns in the South have thee lovely places as well. In the little town where our lake house is located we have a lovely little coffee shop that even has sing-alongs two nights every month. They have homemade cinnamon rolls and breakfast biscuits and so many yummy things to go with your coffee.
My late parents used to eat breakfast at a cafe that had 25 cent coffee and it was self serve. The cool thing there was they only had five tables and you sat where ever there was space so complete strangers happily shared tables and got to know each other. Sadly it did not survive the Covid shut down.

Sounds like a great place. Another great coffee place is in Biddeford called Maine Coast Roast, if you ever find yourself down that way. My niece, Holly Ayoob and her husband Paul own it, run it, and Holly does all her own roasting. Her coffee is exquisite and I buy a year’s worth every August when I fly back there. Paul bakes all the goodies, and they too are amazing.

Look at all that tea! I’m not a coffee drinker, which is almost sacrilegious in the PNW. Finding God tea shops is nearly impossible. But this coffee shop goal of yours has me wanting to search and try shops for tea
