Quote of the Day “Spring is the time of plans and projects.” ~ Leo Tolstoy
Hello Monday! Boy, getting used to the time change…. It’s a kicker I tell you. Hopefully by the end of this week my internal clock will be up to speed. On the agenda for today:
- Get tomatoes, peppers and other seeds planted
- Work on getting my art studio organized
- Make a list of potential thrift stores to check out {I need tables and chairs}
- Work on breaking down boxes
- Gather firewood
- Put together a salami and cheese platter for dinner tonight
- Watch the snow melt
How about YOU? Any exciting plans for today?
♥ Mavis

Ha, I can tell you have switched to the eastern time zone. Your posts are early now. Huge congrats on your move!
Peggy says
Good Morning! I’ll be outside in a bit too, I’m converting an old storage turned garden and now turning it into a chicken coop! It’s at our family farm and my brother offered to help me for a few hours, so we’re going to work on leveling out the area that will be the chicken run. 🙂
Kristin says
Are you going to tell us where in New England you’ve moved?
Judy says
Yes where did you move Mavis! Inquiring minds want to know!
Maxine says
Isn’t it early for you to start tomatoes and peppers? I’m south of you in zone 7 and I think our frost free date is May 1-15th, so I was thinking mid-April to start my seeds. Asking because this will be my first time trying from seed.
Mavis Butterfield says
This year is going to be trail and error. We have a small greenhouse so I’m hoping to have some good sized plants by mid May. We’ll see.

You might find this one app helpful to keep track of things needed at the store(s). It’s called “Wunderlist” and when we lived in the country it SAVED us when we went to the closest city to go to the grocery, hardware, farm and garden, etc Whenever I use something up or need a receipe item, I just put it on the app. My husband has same app on his phone and we are synced , so if he goes to town for auto parts store, he has my list already on his phone. SO convenient

Save those cardboard boxes and use in place of landscape cloth ( which I hate!). Works great and is free, your favorite word!!
charwelsh says
I agree with Carole! Cardboard and old newspapers are great for laying directly over sod and topping with compost/dirt. Saves a lot of work (and your back). Now that you live in the northeastern part of the U. S., it would be a good idea to read up on the black legged deer tick. Lyme’s Disease is NOT something you want to contract.
jink says
YES, totally agree on learning about Lyme disease. I got it the one year we lived in NY. It’s nymph season in the spring, and nymphs are highly infective though very tiny, and the color of your skin, if you’re Caucasian. Please don’t assume you or the rest of the family won’t get it. The whole area is endemic.
Wendi says
Yup, Lyme’s is a @%#* but practically everyone in PA and NJ eventually gets it….dogs included. My puppy had it within his first 6 months. Hopefully further north you’ll be able to avoid it but get educated, keep an eye out and treat your pup. And for the record, I also agree with using your boxes in place of landscape cloth. I did it when I moved and it worked great. Welcome to EST and the East Coast. We’re so happy to have you!
Lisa-Marie says
Careful in regards to Lyme disease. It’s bad and can have lasting issues.
A tip, as you’re in NEw England now, is to go to flea markets, yard sales and local auctions! It’s cheaper than the thrift stores. Here in my area in Maine, furniture is so cheap, it’s practically given away. Too bad you’re not closer as all the furniture from the last owners we bought our land from is in the workshop barn and (in great shape) you could take what you wanted. They retired to the Carolinas and only took their clothes and mementos. Chairs, tables, lamps, bookcases, etc. I have enough here for three houses at least! Oh well, yard sale!! I’m guessing you’re in NH.
Sara says
Can’t wait to hear more about your new place! You should also keep an eye open on FB marketplace or the buy/sell/trade/free groups for your new area! Never know when something great might come across!
