Quote of the Day “Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you design for the present.” Jim Rohn
Hello Monday! How was your weekend? Anything exciting happen? After working in the yard all day, the HH and I went out last night for date night. And now BOTH of us have the poison ivy itch. Luckily though, I only have it on my left wrist {right where the glove meets the end of the shirt sleeve}. Thank you all for your suggestions on what to do/buy.
I ended up getting the Benadryl extra strength itch cream {but the knock off brand because it was half the price but had the same amount of active ingredient}. The HH refused to go to the Dr. for the steroid meds {I would have gone and got the meds if mine was all over my person like his is} but he’s hanging in there with the cream. Guys can be funny that way. I’m all about give me the drugs…. but with him…. a limb has to be falling off before he will seek medical condition. Whateva.
Hey! It’s Monday. Get out there and have some fun! 🙂 🙂 🙂

I think ALL husbands are like yours. Mine sure is. For example, he used to be a railroad engineer. He was felling sick to his stomach, but went to work anyway. He came home, I took his temp and it was elevated. 101.5. He finally let me call the doc, on a Saturday. I was told for him to either go to the ER or see his regular doc on Monday. I told him they said to go a.m. he had is appendix out. It had ruptured and gangrene has a.ready set it. He is OK from that now though.

Mavis, to get the poison ivy rash from (@#$%) and have found that the prednisone is the only help for a severe case or you risk a bacterial infection as well. If you are exposed you can wash with IVY AWAY SOAP. It will remove the oils from the skin and clothes and help prevent the rash.
When I realize that I am developing a rash I use THE GRANDPA SOAP CO. PINE TAR SOAP . This really helps dry up the oozing from the rash. Fair warning while washing the soap smells like ground up tires but it does not linger on the skin.
Don’t forget that your clothes will carry the oils. Wash them in hot water and then run an empty cycle in hot water following the clothes to prevent spreading it to your other clothes.
I know you plan to burn a lot of firewood this winter. Just be certain that you use wood that do not have any of the poison ivy, oak, or sumac on them. When this is burnt the smoke will carry the Urushiol oil (the irritant in these plants) with it and it will get on the skin, in the eyes and throat and into the lungs. I went to the hospital after being exposed to a neighbors smoke that must have included this.
Happy Labor Day!!

Just another FYI to be aware of: My husband (healthy and 40 at the time) ended up with pneumonia after his last encounter with poison oak, and took quite a while to fully recover after getting to the doctor. Full body involvement isn’t something to mess around with. I also had it very badly and finally went in for a prescription to get it to stop spreading and get over it. Our favorite products are 1) for prevention: Tecnu, to be used immediately after any potential contact, and 2) for the times the rash completely surprises you: Zanfel or the generic brand. That stuff is expensive but SO worth it. Also agree with others, be extremely careful about being sure not to burn it. Prayers that you’ll be over it soon.
