For the poison ivy you need to find a product called “tecnu”. It is great! It cuts the oils from poison ivy. Buy a big bottle!! Before HH goes out to battle PI I tape him into his clothes so that only his face is open. Once done he strips in the garage next to the washing machine. He showers with tecnu and his clothes are washed with tecnu. Since I started doing this he hasn’t had a PI attack. He is highly allergic so this product has been wonderful. Sorry if this sounds like an ad but I really love this stuff.

Yes it is great! Here in Florida they have something like poison ivy called suemac. You must wear long sleeves, pants and gloves when working. We bought 3 acres and after just walking thru it the FIRST time I got it. I’ve had it twice since then. I cut the toes out of my husbands tube socks and kept my arms covered so it doesn’t spread. That’s part of the problem- spreading. And it lasted about 2 weeks. Until you get it cut out by the roots it’s there.

Far from knowledgeable about Sumac, but I do believe there is a poison version and a non-poison version. Has to be because my kids love sumac tea [Indians made it and taught settlers].

I’ve always wondered how you keep your furniture from getting dirty since Lucy is allowed on it, especially since she likes to dig. I keep an old towel on my car seat for my dog to sit on after I take her for a walk and I have to wash it every few weeks. Do you wash her paws before she comes inside?

No, not unless she is unusually dirty. She has to walk across 2 brick paths plus a large area rug {2 in late spring/winter} even before she makes it in the door. We have a fluffy comforter on the leather couch but I don’t put anything on the $25 floral chair. Not yet anyway. The Girl did give her a bath today just in case she had to poison ivy on her fur.

I too had poison ivy from what I thought was a dead plant it wasn’t . I got it on both arms . An older friend told me to use dr tichenors mouthwash . I was scepticle but desperate to try anything . Give it a chance . It cools it down and dries it up . Idk if they sell it up north but I’m sure amazon has it . Also , granny’s poison ivy soap helped too.

Tecnu works wonders. My husband mountain bikes at night and uses it after ever ride.
