Quote of the Day “Turning your passion into your job is easier than finding a job that matches your passion.” – Seth Godin
Hello Wednesday! Yesterday was a bit of a disappointment for us. Lucy’s babies didn’t arrive which was of course a total bummer because the puggle princess and I spent the morning setting up the stock tank, putting the pine shavings in there, loading the tank up with food and water and of course the heat lamp, only to call the post office at 11 to find out no chicks were received at the post office that morning. Poor Lucy! She must have checked to see if there were chicks in the stock tank about 8 times yesterday… each time walking away disappointed. Boooo!
So, fingers crossed TODAY IS THE DAY!
Also, ever since moving here, my hair gets so tangled by mid day that I may have to start wearing my hair in a bun. I can’t figure out why it’s becoming such a tangled mess. Could it be the cold weather? I think I may be losing my mind.
Ahhh Wednesday… I am READY FOR YOU!
Have a great day everyone,
♥ Mavis

Maybe the ocean air? Or drier air than your system is used to after Washington?
Here’s hoping baby birds will come today!
Lindsey says
I’m in md and have very similar hair to yours and by midday it’s a total birds nest. I’m not sure what causes it, but it’s worse in winter. I have learned to wear it in a long braid when I’m puttering around doing yard work or chores. It helps a lot.
Wendy says
Hi Mavis, it could be your well water. You might need a more heavy duty conditioner. Also, a trick I have for static is to spray Static Guard on my comb and then run it through my hair. It doesn’t last a super long time though.
Crystal says
That is my thought too. Hard water is hard on hair. When I visit my grandma, who has hard water, my hair always feels like it never quite gets clean, and tangles super easily.
Julie K Whitmore says
I live in Maryland and have been raising chickens for 35 years. I used to order my “post office” chicks to come in April or May, but I discovered that if I held off until June, they were most likely to survive a long journey in an unheated truck and an overnight stay in an unheated post office.
Did you happen to order from McMurray? They will throw in “extra chicks for warm”-all cockerals, by the way-unless you specify otherwise.
Carolina says
Judging by some of your other comments I would guess that you live within 50 miles of where I live and I have the same problem of tangles in my long straight hair. It is the cold, but also the wind!!! It has been crazy windy these last few days. And look out, there is SNOW (sorry for using a 4 letter word) forecast for Saturday night into Sunday.
Robin says
I’m in Wisconsin and my long hair is never tidy so I always wear it in a pony or low bun. I thought it was just my hair type, but now I see I’m not alone. 🙂 It does get windy by Lake Michigan, and winter is dry. I’m thinking of having it cut shoulder-length – it curls when it’s shorter and layered so that should camouflage the mess. 🙂
Looking forward to reading more about Lucy and her chicks! Love your studio.
Lisa L says
Oh, where are our baby chicks??? Disappointed and waiting alongside Lucy to see those fuzzy babies. Please post photos as soon as they have arrived and are settled!
Leanna says
Your hair is used to the humidity and your stove along with your weather is drying it out. Try using more conditioner or putting a little bit of
coconut oil on when your hair is dry.
Libby says
I agree about lack of humidity. You should see a huge difference in your hair in the summer.
I have a digital indoor/outdoor thermometer which records the high & low temps for past 12 hours, barometric pressure trend, and humidity levels in/out. Made by Accurite and purchased at LLB many years ago. Boy I sound like a geek 🙂 Anyway the humidity in my house is 40% right now and typically in the 30’s during the winter when I’m not running a humidifier.
Brianna says
I have the same issue with my hair, which is lower back length, thick, and straight. I wash it less frequently (2-3x a week) to allow my natural oils to work and make sure I use a good conditioner and let it sit in my hair several minutes before rinsing. I also only brush my hair in the am and before bedtime because it tends to get to much static if I do it anymore and thus tangle. Make sure your ends are healthy because split ends tend to tangle more. If it is windy, braid it or tie it up more.
Karin H says
It’s the dry air. Rub a dryer sheet over you head. Not only will it control the static but you’ll smell like fresh basket of laundry!
debbie in alaska says
A low braid is very new england. Just sayin’ 🙂
Deborah says
Coconut oil is good for co ditto I got your hair. You can also rub about a dimes worth on your hands and through your hair if needed. It helps mine. Although I do live in a very humid area. East Texas is always humid. But it’s good for deep conditioning, taming fly-away and for split dry ends. It’s worth a try. I love it. I use coconut oil a lot for beauty.
Julie says
do you have a water softener?
…..hard water will make your hair get funky.
Helen in Meridian says
Can you get Zay con chicken and beef where you live now? I hope they deliver there.
jennifer says
Agreed it’s probably dry air in the house. You also mentioned last week that your hands are dry. Maybe a humidifier before your lips and nose get dry too?!
