Yesterday we got up early and just as the sun was starting to rise, and headed out for a date day adventure. I had the whole day mapped out and since there was a ferry to catch, there wasn’t a lot of room for dilly-dallying.
Breakfast was at Treats, in Wiscasset, Maine. This was our third visit in the less than two years we’ve been in New England and it didn’t disappoint.
The HH had a slice of quiche with potatoes, peppers, onions, spinach and a bunch of other goodness and I had a ham and egg biscuit. The eggs were SO CREAMY and flavorful, I asked the lady behind the counter what made them taste so good. Their secret? Hoisin sauce. You’ve got to get a bottle and try it. You’ll never make a plate of plain scrambled eggs again.
It’s a good thing the lobster shop across the street was closed for the season, or breakfast would have been lobster rolls and weenies.
Two round trip tickets for the Islesboro Ferry {car, driver and passenger} $30.
It’s been over two years since I’ve been on a ferry, but the ride, whether it’s a big or small boat, never gets old.
The crossing time from Lincolnville, Maine to Islesboro was only about 20 minutes. Not bad if you ask me.
Because Islesboro is 3 miles off the coast of Maine with a year round population of around 650, there is not a whole lot to do during the winter months for visitors besides hang out at the local library, the bakery {which was closed the day we were there} check out the general store and drive around the island.
From what I’ve read, in the summer the island population about triples, but with more shops open and island activities galore, I would imagine it gets pretty crazy around town {for the locals at least}. John Travolta, and Chris O’Donnell have places on the island, but for the most part, Islesboro seems like it would be a pretty low-key place to live.
And quiet too!!! The HH and I went down to the Islesboro town beach and walked around Pendleton Point and were absolutely gobsmacked at the lack of any sound other than the waves hitting the shore.
I could live here I told him. I could live here.
Because we had a schedule to keep, we only had about two hours on the island, but we’ll be back, that’s for sure. Our next stop was Dot’s Market and Cafe. We found Dot’s last summer, and loved the display out front both then and now.
Since we had lunch on the island {but still wanted to pop by Dot’s} we bought a slice of their apple pie to go.
And since were were driving by Morse’s Sauerkraut in Waldoboro we stopped their too for a few rations.
Then it was on to The Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, Maine.
There were so many cool things to see there, I think we spent a good two hours there checking out all the exhibits {and I took oodles of pictures and will do a proper show and tell soon}.
This tree outside of the museum though…. it’s it just about perfect? It was like a painting that had come to life.
It was a good date day. Delicious food, a ferry ride, a walk along the beach, a museum and it even snowed on the way home. Have I told you how much I LOVE it here? 😉
Have a great day everyone, it will be a toasty 36 degrees here in Maine today.

Glad to see that you got to visit “the prettiest town in Maine”—Wiscasset! Also hope that when summer comes, you will have the pleasure of visiting Monhegan Island—10 miles out at sea, and cars are left behind. It has a year round population of about 50, a one room school and a sweet library, a general store, a light house and lots of great walking trails—some easy, some steep. Check out the Jamie Wyeth painting “The Red House”—painted right near the dock.

Visiting Maine is on my bucket list. I’ve been digging deep into family history and it turns out my ancestors were some of the earliest Maine settlers. One day…

Surprised to see all the shells on the beach. Are they on a lot of the Maine beaches? Usually we go to Florida to hunt shells.

I think one of my brother’s friends, Sandy Oliver, who writes cookbooks and is a food historian lives on Islesboro. Google her! I have a cookbook of hers.
Also, the woman who was on Cheers..Kristy something had a house there, too….

One reason your HH especially enjoys date days – he doesn’t have to cook!

Wow. You were in my town….Wiscasset! I live about 4 miles from town. Breakfast at Treats looks delicious. You need to come back and try Red’s Eats when they open, for a lobster roll. It’s the best in Maine!
We moved here shortly after you moved. We came from Kirkland, Washington. Like you, we are so glad we moved here.

We plan to drive from Oregon to Maine in the future. We can’t decide if we want to land in the winter or summer! You make it very hard to choose!

I love your photos! Hope to visit there one day. As I was scrolling down, at first glance, I thought your breakfast sandwich was a duck with a bright pinkish bill. LOL…I’m not right in the head, for sure!
I always enjoy your blog and photos, especially Miss Lucy! Thanks for so much for keeping me entertained!
