Yesterday, The Girl and I decided to catch the ferry to Islesboro for a day of beachcombing and fun.
We missed the first ferry {the line was pretty long} but made it onto the next one and after a quick 20 minute ride… We were there!
We brought along our boots and buckets and as soon as we got off the ferry we went straight to our favorite beach and were not disappointed.
The Girl found what we think is an upside down deer atlas neck bone? Anyone know for sure? We actually found one of these on Etsy, which I think is kind of strange. I mean, what does one do with deer bones anyway?
There was also the typical trash {toothbrushes, plastic bottles, Fireball!} but not as much as we’ve seen in years past so that was good.
She was there for the rocks, I was there for the driftwood.
And we both went home happy with our haul.
If you’re headed to Maine this summer and you’ve never been to Islesboro before, it’s worth a day trip {although I would live there year round if I could only get the HH to move with me}.
Our favorite store, The Island Market is open year round, and there is a teeny tiny lighthouse, and a few other shops that open for the summer season. The reason I really like visiting Islesboro though is for the beaches and just the general laid back feel of the island.
It was 66 degrees out on the island yesterday, can you believe that!? I think we’ve turned a corner and summer really is on its way.
Hot dog! I think I’m ready for it.
Have a good one,
Mavis

Islesboro is a lovely laid-back kind of island with lovely beaches… but some of these are in fact private property, just fyi.

My daughter majored in archaeology and specialized in faunal analysis (bone study and identification) so I asked her about the bone picture. She said it was the right size and shape to be either human or pig.
