Yesterday while I was sitting in the exam room waiting for my appointment with the endocrinologist, I took the opportunity to scroll through the pictures on my phone. They were pictures I had taken at some point, and either forgot to tell you about them, or just haven’t gotten around to printing them out.
Remember when we used to only take pictures for birthdays or other celebrations… or if we were on vacation or something?
Now because we’re all practically walking around with a phone is our pocket 24/7 {or a purse, do people still carry purses?} it seems like we’ll take a picture of practically anything.
Case in point:
Cardboard coolers. Did you know these were a thing? Can you imagine telling someone 20 years ago that in 2021 stores would be selling coolers made out of recycled cardboard? And that people would be buying them? Has anyone tried one of these? Do they actually work?
How many people do you know who would pay $6.99 for 4 ounces of grapes at the airport? Would YOU pay $6.99 for 4 ounces of grapes?
Our old library used to leave out folders with the latest grocery ads and another one for people to exchange coupons. I suppose those folders are gone now because of well, you know… cooties.
I’ve kept this photo on my phone for the last 2 years to remind me to NEVER, never buy a property in the middle of the woods in New England. I’m so glad those days of having to garden at 6 am in the heat and humidity and being covered from head to toe and being eaten alive by black flies and giant skeeters are behind me.
I do wonder though… what the bug situation will be like at our new place. I truly hope that with being right on the coast with the moving water and the breeze it will keep them at bay {fingers crossed}.
This photo was also taken about 2 years ago… and it’s so true. If you can find a way to make a living doing something you love, you’ve got it made.
When the mice find your candy dish. Ewwwwwwwwww! {Also, a 2 year old photo}
Maybe not as gross though as being served a chicken pot pie in a restaurant with an actual {and unexpected} fried chicken foot placed in the middle of the pot pie. My daughter was so disgusted by it, she couldn’t even eat her meal. And that kid will pretty much eat anything.
$4.99 for a used onesie at Goodwill. Three years later I still can’t believe it. But I finally deleted the photo!
And last but not least…. Darrrrrling someone bring me my kibble.
Who could delete this photo? Not only will this picture stay on my phone forever, I just ordered a print so I can frame it. That Lucy, what a ham. 😉
9 photos down, 2391 to go!
Wishing you a productive and relaxing Tuesday,
~Mavis

Mavis, thank you for being an inspiration! (& I hope your appointment went well)
I started 2021 with 2000+ unread emails in my inbox. They were a heavy weight on my shoulders and that number kept me up at night. How did it even get that way!?!! I’m down to 500 with hopes of being at zero by Easter! After that, maybe I’ll have the fortitude to tackle the pictures situation! Thanks for helping me be better!

That is a lot of emails!!! I really liked the endocrinologist, just waiting on labs now. 🙂

I have 29, 683 in my inbox, per my phone. (I’m a writer, and people send me a boatload of PR daily.) It’s really hard to keep up, what with writing, homeschooling, wrangling my tweens and teens, and doing all the mom stuff that every day requires.
I need an app that does zero inboxing for me.

@Melissa You win! I thought to myself, 2,000? Phittttt i had over 5,000 and it took a week’s concentrated effort to get rid of them. But 29k? Holy moly! My HH’s developed a twitchy eye if he has any emails in his inbox! He even dumps his trash bin! That’s just wrong hahaha

50,088 as of today. Yikes! I’m thinking of deleting them all. How many would I miss?
Lace Faerie says
!!! If it’s important they’ll send again, right? Go for it!

I read (listened to) Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson and I loved her solution. Just delete the email and don’t tell anyone. I think about that all the time, especially my work email.

Hi, Mavis! My guess is that even though you have woods around you, that ocean breeze could indeed help keep the biting bugs at bay while it’s blowing. I live near the windy Lake Michigan coast and the mosquitoes and gnats don’t seem to be as bad here as inland. The wind at my in-laws’ forested lake home two hours inland also creates a bug-free zone on the dock — at least until the wind dies in the evening and the sun goes down. Then the dock is just as bad as the shady hillside and yard. 😉 Bugs LOVE to chew on me.

I looked at the opening photo and thought ‘Wow, they’ve got for a rather austere look for the cloakroom…’
I could go without food for a long time before I’d pay that much for grapes, even if everything else around them was similarly inflated in price. The wastage at the end of the day on such items must be enormous. The last time I flew I paid a similar amount for a large fruit platter and thought I was being hopelessly ripped off.

thank you so much! i really do love your blog – smiles every day :)!!!

I should formally make it a goal so I can check it off, but when I’m waiting at the doctors office, or some other place i have to wait, I spend the time unsubscribing to emails that I’m pretty sure I never subscribed to. It has helped keep my in-box a bit more manageable but they still keep coming.

My goal of buying mostly local meat meant accepting a package of chicken feet with our chicken order. They supposedly make amazing chicken stock, so they will get used and appreciated, but it’s also not the type of ingredient I’m super excited to thaw, roast, and simmer for hours. I guess I should just be grateful that there’s a use for them beyond a deep fried garnish.

Of course people still use purses…not everyone of course…but YES!

I only had 1300 pics and will many of them were pictures of things at WM that I think will interest/disgust them. That and screenshots of our NC mountain weather that is very different from theirs. I am now down to 800 and that was easy.
$7 for 4 oz of grapes? I hate to pay $7 for 4# of grapes!!grapes
Tell The Girl that our WM sells chicken paws – apparently paws sounds better than class – everyday. I had a picture of it, but deleted it a few days ago.

My husband is organizing and clearing out photos on our family computer. He wants to put them on a photo stick. 65,000 photos. How did that happen? It doesn’t help that he always took multiple shots of the same thing, or that he never erased blurred or bad shots, but still? He has to get it down to 35,000 to fit on the stick so it’s a work in progress! And that’s a lot of photos to look at 🙂

I think that’s my favorite picture ever of Miss Lucy!

I’ve started deleting phots but so far I’m only removing duplicates and obviously poor ones. This is gong to take me FOREVER!
Yes, I do still carry a purse when I go out but it is MUCH smaller than what I used to carry and it has a cross body strap so needs no hands. I LOVE pockets but with no back pockets I need a purse to carry my IDs and credit cards and few necessities like my Tide To Go stick–I’m messy. 🙂

We bought three of those cardboard coolers at WM on clearance for $0.25 each. I thought, for that price, I can grow stuff in them for a season then compost them.
We did put a few cold groceries in one until we got home, but we never tried it with ice and drinks. So, idk if they work for their intended purpose.

Ick…I’m with your daughter. That fried chicken foot plunked jnto the middle of that pie is downright disturbing. Lol Who could’ve thought THAT was an appetizing idea!?
