Every year Costco has big beautiful wreaths for sale. They smell all pine-y and fantastic, and if the HH had his way, we would throw one in the cart and stroll through checkout.
The only thing is that they are EXPENSIVE. So expensive, that several years ago, The Girl and I decided to start making our own. It turned out great–and it cost us under $5 in supplies. Now, we alternate with a homemade wreath or door swag. I still have $15.00 in my pocket that I could have given to Costco, and something festive for my door.
If you want to try your hand at your own wreaths this year, you’ll need:
- Tree branches {I usually clip mine from a Leland Cypress}
- Holly branch clippings {if you have access}
- Wreath form
- 22 gauge floral wire
Directions:
Start by cutting your branches. I usually aim for several clippings that are somewhere between 6″-12″ long.
Secure a piece of the floral wire securely to your wreath frame. Tying a knot usually does the trick.
Place 2-3 sprigs stacked on top of one another on the wreath and secure the base of them to the wreath using the wire.
Repeat the process as you work your way around the wreath, slightly overlapping the sprigs as you go.
If you were able to get yourself some Holly, trim the base of the cutting and stick them randomly down into the wreath form.
Grab an ornament or tie yourself a big ol’ Christmas bow and attach it to the top center of the wreath. The ornament should dangle in the open center of the wreath. The bow will just be attached for a little extra somethin’ somethin’.
Happy Holidays,
Mavis

Is there a way to make sure there are no bugs on the foliage? Could I do this with just holly!
