The AGA.. Or rather the second AGA that we had to order because the first one arrived damaged, wasn’t supposed to arrive for another 16 weeks.
So naturally, I didn’t believe him when he texted me as I was sitting at the airport waiting for my flight back home from Fair Isle.
But to my surprise… He wasn’t joking.
And yada yada yada… Guess what got delivered yesterday!?
My new AGA eR7 cooker!
The cooker was so heavy {816 pounds!} it took four guys to bring it in the house.
And this time the stove was perfect. There wasn’t a scratch on it.
The guys had it delivered and installed in less than 30 minutes. What a beauty!
It even came with a few goodies inside.
The Complete AGA Cookbook by Mary Berry and Lucy Young.
An AGA toaster.
2 roasting pans and a wire brush.
Naturally the first thing we did was check to see if my favorite Dutch oven {the one I bake bread with} fit.
It does!
Finally, my kitchen remodel is complete. How cool is that? Now all that’s left to do is fire this baby up and start cooking.
I guess you know where I’ll be all weekend…
Have a good one. 🙂

Wow – what a homecoming bonus! Let Goal #5 begin… Can’t wait to follow your progress with the new AGA!
MEM says
Wow Mavis! What a wonderful surprise! Your patience has been rewarded. I look forward to seeing what you and HH make with it. Congratulations!
Toni says
I gather that this one does not use coal as fuel like the ones we saw in England over forty years ago.
Mavis Butterfield says
This one is all electric. 🙂
Lindsey says
I lived with one of those when we lived on a sheep farm in Scotland. The house always smelled of coal.
Tracey says
What a fun surprise! It’s so pretty! Can’t wait to see it in “action”.
Jeanine says
What a nice surprise to come home to. That is so cool….I can’t wait to see what you cook up this weekend. You are going to have so much fun.
Are you keeping your old stove for dyeing wool in another location like the basement or garage? Or do you dye your wool outside on your gas cooker that you used for the maple syrup. I’d hate to see your new AGA stove get messed up with it being nice and new.
Enjoy!
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes, we are keeping the old stove for dyeing.
Nancy says
Wow, it looks so pretty…and cool! Love the color with your kitchen! And the Mary Berry cookbook! Have fun!!

Kathy says
Great! What a wonderful surprise! You deserve it after the disappointment of the first stove.
Jamie says
This is fascinating. Especially the price point. I’m not familiar with this kind of oven. Can you share what it does or why it is so much more or better than a regular stove….. aside from really looking very cool. Thanks
Lynne says
This is so exciting – good for you! Please consider giving us a “tour” of your AGA. I for one have never actually seen one in person and am intrigued, as they seem to be regarded as very special. It certainly is a beauty!
Christie says
So with all those compartments ovens, how do you cook a turkey or something else large?
Diane says
Wow! That’s quite the surprise. What a “Welcome Home” gift, very cool. It looks so great. Are you going to name the AGA? The AGA seems to call for a name due to the unique character of the piece and the journey the AGA took to get to your home. Wishes for much joy and happiness cooking in/on your new addition. Congrats.
Joely says
Yay!!! it is beautiful.
Patti Vanderbloemen says
As avid baker, I almost cried happy tears for you when I opened this post! I would tell you to have a wonderful weekend, but no need!

Super excited for this!!!! Oh please give us a tour of its features (esp making toast).
Margo says
Happy baking and cooking! Run her through her paces and see what she can do. Hope your floors can handle the weight without additional bracing. My folks had an old house that, of course, didn’t originally have an indoor bathroom. When they put an old cast iron tub in on the second floor, the original structure couldn’t handle it and the ceiling on the first floor began to sag. Needed additional bracing underneath as it as it was never designed for that type of weight. I hope you’ll take us on a “tour” of your beautiful new oven. It’s a gem!
Ashley Bananas says
Yay!! I’m glad it came in.
Karen R. says
Enjoy! What great timing. So happy for you.
Teri says
What a fantastic surprise!!
debbie in alaska says
hooray – congratulations! Happy baking/cooking/admiring
Lindsey says
How wonderful for you!! In the UK, the high cost of fuel has caused people to exchange their AGAs for other stoves. There are used AGAs for sale everywhere. We used one of the sections in ours to keep lambs warm when there was some reason (illness, mom died, etc) they could not be left out in the field. The stove kept that section warm all the time so it was very convenient. (They were not cooked, that part was the warming oven.)
Kim says
HAPPY NEW STOVE!!!!!!!!
Will you name her?
Can’t wait to hear how she does when you take her out for a spin.
Jackie says
Finally! Please let us know if the Aga lowers your gas/electricity bills.

So excited for you! The color looks lovely in your kitchen. Can’t wait for a “tour”! I had never heard of an AGA stove until I read that you were planning on getting one. Curious how many pots you can use on the top of it. Have fun baking this weekend!
Michelle of Ephrata says
Very exciting. Congrats!!! Did you need to add extra braces to the floor to support such a heavy appliance? She is definitely a beauty!
Emily says
It’s beautiful! Well worth the wait.

Congratulations, so happy for you, we had one growing up in the 60/70s, it was coal fired I believe and it kept the kitchen really warm in the winter. I wouldn’t remember how to cook on one now.
Julie P says
So chuffed for you Mavis! Yes tc my parents had one too it was cream as they all were and apparently there was a little silver tap thing at the bottom and I would toddle around the kitchen frequently finding that exact spot to crack my head on! Different times the health visitor nowadays would have allowed it. When mum had it taken out my dad put it in the pit on the farm and years later someone gave him good money for it lol!
Julie P says
Sorry would not have allowed it
Heather in Nevada says
Great surprise. Enjoy your weekend of baking. I never heard of one until you said that you were getting one. Then a friend said her daughter, who is living in the UK, just got rid of hers due to utilities costs.
Trace S says
Oh my stars! That’s happiness❤️❤️❤️
Sherry says
Yeah, Mavis!!! And congratulations! I’m so excited for you. I second the request for an Aga tour. Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Hooray!!! So glad it got there so much earlier than May! I’m so excited for you! I would have been so disappointed getting the first one damaged and that’s so good that this one was in perfect shape! I feel like a lot of people have been waiting with bated breath for your new stove right along with you! 🙂
Sue S. says
Wow, as Gomer Pyle always said “sur-praaz, sur-praaz, sur-praaaaz. Very happy for you. The end of a perfect month. I don’t think I’ve seen so many comments recently. Your fans are happy for you Mavis! Add me to the list. Did you have to reinforce the floor under it?
Joanna says
No expectations equals no disappointment !!! So happy for you!!

What a pretty appliance!
I had not noticed (until your blogs mentioned these aga stoves)
But…on the new all creatures great & small…Mrs. Hall uses one!
It is neat, how they have domes for their burners/eyes!
Happy cooking Mavis, what a great homecoming!

That stove is a beaut, but those floors! So pretty! I’d never leave the kitchen.

How thrilling! And so pretty! I’m really interested to read your experiences with with the Aga. Being electric I imagine will be a lot more convenient than the traditional ones. I’m sure you’re going to have lots of fun with it!

Congratulations Mavis on your new arrival! May you have many happy and healthy years cooking and baking with her.
Love to see how the burners work. I am assuming they are under the silver plates.
Enjoy!
