Need something to keep the kids occupied while you are waiting to unwrap presents {maybe the in-laws are headed over and want to see them unwrap, so you have to hold them off for a bit?}. Or maybe you have lots of little ones who need something to do while you grab a little adult time?
Here’s a Christmas scavenger hunt they can try, and who knows, it might buy you a half hour or so {arm them with a camera or your phone, so they can take pictures of what they find}:
- Present wrapped with a red bow {Hide them a bit under the tree in anticipation, so it takes them a little longer to find}
- One metal ornament hook
- Tinsel
- One homemade Christmas cookie {Didn’t have time to make homemade cookies this year? No worries, just block that part out with a sharpie, I won’t tell :}
- Candy Cane
- Pine Cone {if you have one in your decorations}
- Picture of Santa {This can be a Santa Decoration, the front of a Christmas card, etc.}
- A Candle
- Packet of Hot Chocolate {or the jar if you make your own mix}
- A Star {if you have little ones, they may be up early enough to capture a picture of the real thing}
- A glove or mitten
- A pair of slippers
- Roll of Christmas wrapping paper
- A Nativity Scene {if you have one as decor}
- A Christmas Card
You can, of course, adjust this list to things in your house, but this will help you get started. If you have tweens or teens make it more outdoorsy–and send them out into the neighborhood to find their items. Can you think of any other items to add to the list?
Happy Hunting,
Mavis

Brilliant!! We have 3 teens (14, 15 & 17) & feel like we miss when they were little & all the crazy fun went on. I’m SURE this will kick things off nicely! I made the list a little more challenging for the teenagers though. I plan on cutting them all loose with their cell phone cameras, the list & a crayon. Each list has a few of the same things but most are just a little different & the order of things on each list is all mixed up. Some of the things I used are “A wooden spoon”, “Wooden spoons” & “A wooden fork” all on different lists. The directions I wrote at the top say the first to finish wins the “prize” BUT to pay close attention to the wording & get the correct picture or it’s back to the drawing board. Prize will either be cash or chocolate. A few other things I included were things like the pinkie toe on dads left foot, an egg, the neighbors mailbox, your finger in someone else’s ear, a rock, rocks, a swing, a picture of their 2 year old cousin smiling, a mustache, your eyes crossed, an eyebrow, specific tattoo on a tattoo covered uncle, Japanese maple tree, a flower, a rose bush, a phone, a car that is currently driving on the road, a drivers license, a flag pole, a dime, a dollar & a quarter. I CAN’T WAIT!!!!! Thanks for the awesome awesome awesome idea!!
