I’m sure you’ve had a chicken pot pie, probably even a beef or turkey pot pie too. But have you ever had a ham pot pie? If not, go make this right now. I had a bunch of leftover ham to use up and wasn’t in the mood for any soup or the normal casseroles I use it up in. So this seemed like the perfect solution.
It was not what I was expecting and kind of blew up my taste buds. My family basically licked the pie dish clean, and I was regretting only making one!
PrintEasy Ham Pot Pie Recipe
Ingredients
1 pie crust {Homemade Pie Crust Recipe}
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup onion
1/4 cup all purpose flour
1 1/2 cup beef stock
1/2 cup half and half
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 tsp season salt
1/4 tsp garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
2 1/2 cups diced ham
2 cups frozen mixed veggies
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 F. Grease a 9 inch pie dish and set aside.
In a sauce pan over medium-high heat, melt butter and saute onion until onions are soft, about 5 minutes.
Whisk in the flour to form a roux. Whisk in beef stock until thoroughly incorporated. Whisk in the half and half and stir well.
Slowly add in the cheese and stir until well blended. Add in all seasonings and salt and pepper to taste. Pour the veggies and ham into the pan and stir just until combined.
Place the bottom of your prepared crust into the greased pie dish. Pour ham filling in. Place the top crust on and seal edges. Using a fork, poke holes in top.
Brush with an egg wash. Bake about 45 minutes until the crust is nice and golden brown.

Try a mix of ham and chicken. It’s equally yummy.

I’ve never tried them together but I always have leftover chicken lying around. I’ll have to try that!

THIS! I know you probably have lots of pie plates but this one is my favorite. I think you have a red one like it too. What is it and where do I get one?
Thanks!

Mavis, I would like to pin this recipe but can’t seem to find a pin thingy anywhere. I know that I have pinned other recipes from your blog before. What am I doing wrong? I make beef and chicken pot pies but have never made a ham one and this looks good!

Thank you for your comment. I didn’t notice that yet. I’ll try to get it back up tonight.

This looks delicious. It is funny how the same title of a recipe can mean different things in different parts of the country. In my part of Pennsylvania, we know ham pot pie as a crust less pie. The crust is IN the pie.

Fabulous recipe! I’m throwing away on my other hand pot pie recipes. Everything was perfect I cooked my sauce till it was only halfway thickened and had the perfect amount. This recipe is definitely a big winner. Now I want to go out and buy another ham.

I have made this over a week ago and the taste is still fresh in my mind! I made two pies and everybody that I have shared it with couldn’t believe how good it tasted. I used frozen peas and carrots instead of the mixed veggie blend. It was truly the best pot pie I ever had. Thanks for a keeper!

Perfect consistency and so tasty. Baked at almost 7,000 so I increased the temperature to 380 and extended baking time by 10 min. Will make this again, and again, and again…

We tried this last night, it was so savory and delicious! It made enough filling for 2 pies. Thank you for sharing!
