I love rice. It’s fairly cheap and makes a great filler to any meal. So, when I stumbled upon this little nugget of wisdom, I thought I’d better give it a try: add one teaspoon of lemon juice to each quart of water when cooking rice. (It’s supposed to keep rice fluffy and prevent sticking.)
I added it right to the water in my rice cooker. I wasn’t using a full quart of water, so I cut the recipe in half, using 2 cups of water and a 1/2 tsp. of lemon juice. The results? Perfect fluffy rice, with zero trace of a lemon taste! Who knew?
Want to make life even easier? Amazon currently has my favorite Amora Rice Cooker in stock and ready to ship. Just add water, lemon juice, and rice and walk away–no babysitting a boiling pot {and no burnt popcorn smell if you happen to forget about the pot–which, I have, of course, never done! Ha!}.

I believe this is the same rice cooker Costco sells for $30. I hear it’s a good one!

I learned to make rice when I was a kid, waaaay before rice cookers! 😉 My secret… take a fork when the rice is done and fluff it up.

Never wanted a rice cooker until I started burning pans because i forgot rice was on. Came home from Florida this past spring and one was sitting in my living room. All I have to say is what was I thinking? I LOVE my Aroma rice cooker! Making black beans and rice for dinner, going to try this tip tonight. Thanks again Mavis!
