Thanksgiving is right around the corner and The Girl Who Thinks She’s a Bird wanted me to make sure you had her top secret turkey rub recipe for your bird.
She uses this rub along with an entire stick of butter to prepare our bird every single year. And she’s an expert too, she’s been cooking turkeys since she was ten years old. {She asked if she could cook the turkey one year and we said yes, the rest is history.} Her turkeys always come out so juicy and flavorful and get rave reviews.
Her recipe for a juicy turkey couldn’t be easier; simply melt a stick of butter in a small bowl and baste the turkey with it. Season with the top secret turkey rub mix and pop it in the oven. Basting every 30 minutes or so with butter until nicely browned with an internal temperature of 165 F. It’s that easy!
We’ve come up with a number of DIY spice recipes over the years and while this turkey rub recipe is a big winner with everyone we know, I’m sharing a few more of our favorites below.

Ever since I found this recipe on your blog a year or so ago, this has been my go-to recipe for my holiday turkeys! It is absolutely delicious, and I have never had as many compliments as when I use this rub. Thank you for the recipe and for re-posting!
Robin says
when do you put the butter on. What size turkey do you need for 16 people.
Lana says
Read above about the butter. You need at least a 16 pound turkey for 16 people but go bigger for plenty of leftovers.
