Monday morning The Girl and I were out on a walk and by the time we got back home, we were making plans to hop on a last minute flight.
On our way to Logan Airport we stopped by The Gingerbread Construction Company to grab a muffin for our flight {I bought a gingerbread muffin, she got a banana} and then after that, all we did was eat out for the rest of the trip.
Eating out for days is pretty cool, until it’s not but man oh man it sure is nice to change things up a bit in the eating department every once in a while. Even if it does make a dent in your travel budget.
Cinnabon… Oh how I’ve missed you!
And grocery stores like Trader Joe’s that sell fun things like bagged parsnips, figs and my favorite cinnamon sugar chips.
The options for pickety bits are always pretty endless at Trader Joe’s too, which I love!
And Whole Paycheck. It’s always fun to walk around one of those stores too… You never know what you’re going to find.
Chicken salad and sushi for breakfast? Yes please!
And the Cheesecake Factory. They still make the best chicken cobb salad on the planet earth. {They stopped chopping the salad into tiny little bits though… which I sort of missed}.
But their bread tasted the same… So that was nice. And fresh apple cider, you can’t beat that.
The big meal of the week though was a steak dinner {cooked to perfection I might add}.
And the fruit and cheese tray on the flight home wasn’t bad either.
And then because I was gone all week the HH wanted to go out to eat when I got back. So we went to Moody’s for linner and went to a talk at the Waldoborough Historical Society.
With all the delicious food I ate, I think I may have gained 5 pounds this past week.
There was a whole chicken I had set in the refrigerator to thaw before I left that needed to be cooked so yesterday I had the HH grab a box of Stove Top stuffing at the store and we had a roasted chicken with all the trimmings for dinner.
Fact: The longer a jar of homemade cranberry sauce sits on the shelf, the spicier it gets. 😉
I tossed the leftovers in a dish {and added some canned carrots, corn and frozen peas} and now I have tonight’s dinner all ready to pop in the oven.
Or rather I should say tonight and tomorrow’s dinner… As the casserole dish is a pretty big one.
So that’s what I ate last week. 🙂
How about YOU? Did you eat anything exciting? Do you have a Trader Joe’s near you? Do you love shopping there too?
Have a good one,
~Mavis

My father turns 86 this week, a landmark mom and I didn’t think he would make. With Alzheimers, kidney failure, and 90% blind, he still manages to make me laugh once in awhile. When he passes, mom and I are taking a trip, as she is his main caregiver. She wants to visit the bayou and eat alligator, I want to visit Maine for fresh lobster.
This week dinners are simple. Chicken and dumplings, burgers, pulled pork pot pie, and leftover lamb stew.
No shopping for me this week.

We have a TJ and whole paycheck. I detest shopping……for anything! What did we eat? Cucumbers, tomatoes, squash from the garden, grilled salmon, grilled burger with cheese on top, grilled chicken, spaghetti w/garden ratatouille, apples………that’s what I recall.
Happy Monday!

I love eating out while on vacation! It wouldn’t be a vacation if I still have to do the cooking, etc. It does put a dent in the travel budget – we just plan ahead and add it in. We went on vacation this past July for 9 days and I did not cook a thing!
What we ate this past week: I pulled a pork roast out of the freezer (cooked it in the air fryer) and roasted some veggies as a side. Hubby has been eating the leftover pork. I also took out some cooked chicken and made chicken parmigiana with a side of pasta. Made enough pasta to have that as a meal the next day. Also used up some ready-made convenience foods (that I had previously bought on a BOGO sale). All in all, we ate pretty good!
So far for October, I am under budget in the grocery area (I spent less than I usually do for a week’s worth of groceries). I hope I can keep this going . . .

Tell us more about the cinnamon sugar chips.

The week before last, my daughter and her husband took my husband and me to Maine for a week. I have been on Weight Watchers for 10 months and decided I was leaving WW in the driveway when we left. Oh, boy! We ate our way from Ohio to Maine and never looked back! So, I can relate to what could happen to your waistline! We did do a lot of walking and sightseeing so it could have been worse. I think what I gained was mostly water weight from traveling. When I got home I decided to do a Mavis closet cleanse. Four closets later I had several bags of clothes to donate and ended up being
2.5 pounds down from when we left. What a win, win! Traveled with the kids, ate such good food and lost about 100 pounds of clothes I can’t wear anymore!
Sorry this was so long, but I had to share!

This last week brought some changes in the food arena. Husband had a major heart attack while on a fishing trip and due to the location didn’t receive care for w-a-a-a-y too many hours. Long story short, we’re kicking our already pretty darn healthy diet up a notch. The once a week coffee and pastry excursions will be once a month, the grocery cart will have fewer treats and more produce. My sourdough bread will be made with whole wheat and rye flour. And so it goes.
Be good to your hearts.

I really recommend Dr. Caldwell Esseyltyn’s book on reversing heart disease.
Mimi says
Thanks for the book recommendation! We’ve had a pretty healthy lifestyle but there’s always room for improvement and I’m on the search for helpful books.

So…where did you go?
Sue S. says
Inquiring minds want to know? This is a teaser! Where DID you go? Come to the Cape. We have cranberries galore, Trader Joe’s, and Whole paycheck all in the same area.
Heather says
Trader Joe’s and Costco are about a half hour away so we go to both about once a month.
Last week I felt like all I did was dehydrate apples and zucchini. And can apples, salsa and pears. Zucchini lasagna is what will be for dinner.

I’m thinking they went to Bellevue, WA. Although, no Panera, so maybe not!
