I stumbled upon a new {to me} farmstand yesterday in my quest for pumpkins for my fall display and I couldn’t be more excited.
The Farmer’s Daughters Farm Stand in Arundel, Maine not only has glorious bushels of locally grown fruits and vegetables but the prices and staff there are pretty awesome too.
The only downside is they’re only open a few months out of the year because they are in the business of selling FRESH produce, but hey, that’s okay.
I’ll take fresh, local, happy produce all day long, even if it’s only available part of the year. Eating local, and in season… because it’s SO MUCH BETTER!!
The pumpkins there were beautiful, and reasonably priced!
Melons were only $4 each {I grabbed one!}.
Anyone know what that long green flower is? I keep seeing those everywhere.
I just love all the different types of squash for sale this time of year, don’t you? It’s nice to see such a variety. I want to try them all!
Just look at those gorgeous tomatoes!!
Fresh corn! I think they were $0.75 a piece.
What a set up!
And they sell their own beef too! I’m going to have to go back and get some.
There was even a recipe board on the back wall. I think I might try the roasted butternut squash soup recipe.
If I didn’t have so much going on right now, I would have bought a case or two of canning tomatoes for salsa. But at least now I know they offer bulk quantities for next year.
Produce prices.
There was just much glorious produce to choose from yesterday that I can hardly wait to go back. I think I’m going to have to make a list first though.
The Farmer’s Daughters Farm Stand in Arundel, Maine. If you’re in the area be sure and check it out!! You’ll be SO GLAD you did. 🙂
Do YOU have a favorite farm stand in YOUR area? Can you taste the difference between locally grown and the stuff that’s trucked in from all across the country {and then some?}. I know I can.

I am not sure about the green spikey flower you were asking about but could it be hops? They are using so much of it now in decorating make long “ropes” of it for the mantel etc. Kind of an old English decorating look. The farm stand sounds amazing. We have a small farm market (and boy I do mean small) ever Wed. close to here. We have been paying $1.50 for one piece of corn or $15. for a dozen it has been outrageous. You stumbled in on a good thing and the meat sounds outstanding.

“Please do not husk the corn here”. I love that sign near the corn! I have yet to understand why people husk, squeeze, pop, or taste corn in the store and leave a mess behind. Nothing is more of a pet peeve of mine to see all the silk tops partially opened and the corn dried out because people think it is okay to open them. I am from a farming community and this act makes me roll my eyes. I can tell good corn just by looking at the husk and silks on the outside.

We have a tomato man. He grows them in his backyard and on the weekends he has meet up places to get your order. Eight pounds for ten bucks. Our final pickup this summer was 23 tomatoes. We’re going to miss those tomatoes over the winter

Wonderful prices you have on the pastured beef! I went to the farmers market and the pastured beef was $16 for a pound of ground beef! That’s a hard no for us. We don’t have produce stands here where I am, but do have farmer’s markets. And despite that a lot of the produce seems to be picked well before it’s ripe and sold for a premium. That said, there’s still a lot of good stuff there. I miss the produce stands back east where I grew up.

Amaranthus or common name loves lies bleeding. It comes in quite a few colors these days. That was a very fun read today. Thank you. I’m going to try the roasted veg soup. heavy on the zucchini.

I’m not sure what the green plant is but it comes every two weeks in my Ballerina Farm flower subscription and it’s so pretty in a bouquet!

Farm stands will always be my first choice for produce. Less than a mile from my house a neighbor sells her produce for .50 a lb. (corn is 2/$1.00) and she doesn’t pick until you tell her what you want. It doesn’t get fresher than that! Last week I had corn in the freezer within an hour of picking. With prices like that I’m thinking about a smaller garden next year.

The green plant appears to be Amaranth. I normally see it in reds and gold but there is a green tail amaranth. All parts of the Amaranth plant is edible too, so there is a bonus!

My husband & I were just talking about wanting to buy from local farmers more, but the farm stands and farmer’s markets have gotten so expensive. We can afford to do it, but it’s hard when we can get awesome organic produce from CostCo.
But, I did go to my favorite u-pick today for spinach, beets, beans, dill and beets. I’m still learning how to get my garden to produce and have high hopes for next spring!

I think your green plant is Irish bells. Very unique plant.

Possibly millet.
