Hess Bakery Pretzels
When was the last time you went to a Farmer’s Market?
The Girl Who Thinks She’s a Bird and I recently went to the Puyallup Farmer’s Market in downtown Puyallup, Washington. I am not exactly sure how many vendors are in attendance, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the vendor stalls were pushing 200. With tons of fresh local vegetables, flowers, honey and crafts, there is always something for everyone.
Including me. This time around The Girl and I split a delicious salty pretzel {$1.50} from Hess Bakery, and I also picked up a few more heirloom tomato plants {someone stop me!}. I think this brings my heirloom {variety} count to around 34 or 35. Ha! I’ve lost count.
Ahhh Farmer’s Markets. I love them! The next one to visit on our list… The Gig Harbor Farmer’s Market.
If you are live in the greater Seattle/Tacoma area and know of a great Farmer’s Market we should visit this summer, let us know. We would love to drop in, and feature it here on one hundred dollars a month.
Does your town have a Farmers Market? Do you shop there regularly? If so, what is your favorite thing to buy?

The Farming Game ~ available on Amazon.com
Every player starts the game with 20 inherited acres and moves through the months (i.e., around the board) trying to build the farm into an independent, successful concern that will feed the whole family.
A fun game, it also has a serious, educational side–-having been invented by George Rohrbacher, a farmer in Washington State’s Yakima Valley, who thought it up while trying to figure out how to make enough cash to hang on to his family farm. Up to six players, ages 10 to adult. –Richard Farr
And for the Kiddos…
Farming Game – Kids ~ available on Amazon.com
The Farming Game – Kids helps develop skills in addition, subtraction, counting money, reading simple charts, and that most important lesson in farming, keeping a stiff upper lip when things aren’t going just right. For players ages 3-9 with three different playing levels.

Hey Mavis, I couldn’t get your links to work for the farm games. 🙁 I got so excited about the kids version that I bought it before realizing I should have let you know your link didn’t work, so I could purchase it through your link. If you need my order information to get credit for the link just let me know.
Mavis says
Thanks for letting me know Sarah, I just fixed the link. 🙂 I have heard great things about these Farm Game, I hoe your kids enjoy it! 🙂

Have you been to the Olympia Farmers Market? We loved it there when we lived down there.. it isn’t as big as the Puyullap one but definitely some great stuff there 🙂
Kelly A says
And sorry for the Puyallup typo 🙁
Mavis says

I’ve been to the Redmond Farmers market a couple times and was impressed with how many vendors they had there. Its located at Redmond Town Center. I think I’m going to go to my Kent one tomorrow and get some yummy veggies (at this point my garden is only giving me lettuce, radishes and strawberries)
As for the farming game, my parents used to hate when my brother and I picked that game out to play. I don’t know why we were so drawn to it but it was always the chosen game by us (plus my brother was probably only 5 or 6 at the time so kids can play the adult version).

The Olympia one is good! We go every week when our little Steilacoom one is open! Buying the fresh flowers is my favorite!
Lakewood will be starting one come July. I think it’s the first time! I’m excited to have 3 close by with all different days!

Thanks Jessica!

If you’re in for a day trip/ferry ride, Friday Harbor has a neat Farmer’s Market. My dad lives on the island, and we’ve been before. I think it is neat since everything comes from the island.
Mavis says
Sophie – You have just given me the best excuse in the world to go to Friday Harbor. I love you!
Sophie says
You could even walk on the ferry and leave your car behind to save some money since the market is so close to the landing. Well, I guess everything in town is close to the ferry landing 🙂

Jamey grew up playing the Farming Game and we still play it with his family sometimes:-).
