Yesterday The Girl had the day off from work so we ran a few errands around town. Nothing too exciting, but still, we had a blast. Our first stop was a local apple farm. Actually, I don’t know if it’s a true farm or just a retired couple who has too many apple trees and they just sell the extras.
Who knows… all I know is that the apple prices are good. $0.25 a pound for apples that will be turned into applesauce?
Apples + cinnamon = The Best Stuff on Earth.Β
We also stopped by the library and picked up our latest stack of requested books. I had put Oranges and SunshineΒ on hold a days ago after my neighbor told me about it. And as soon as we got home, Β I checked to see if Oranges and Sunshine was available on Amazon Prime VideoΒ and it is, for FREE! Gaaa! I’d rather read the book before watching the movie though so if you don’t hear from me for the next 48 hours it’s because I’m busy reading. π Have you read the book or seen the movie?
We also stopped at our tiny local thrift store where The Girl found a A&E flannel shirt for $2.50 and I BOUGHT A DRESS! I couldn’t resist the price {$4}. I am happy to report I’m now the proud owner of 2 dresses. I have no idea where I’ll wear it… but still, I’m moving up in the world people. 2 dresses. Wowza!Β
Freebies from the thrift store “Free Bin.” 2 Seattle Magazines and 3 soup bowls. Giddy up!
You can only ask someone to clean out their old school backpack so many times. And when they don’t and you have to take matters into your own hands, anything left in said backpack becomes fair game, right? Guess who scored $3.27 yesterday? It almost paid for the dress. Ha!
What have YOU been up to lately?
Do you have any book recommendations?

I love how you compared the money found to the price of the dress, we take all our loose change and put in a can, we take it every 6 months and turn in and we have saved 3000 in 6 years for our granddaughter, who knows how much she will have in there by the time she is 18….I am really learning a lot from your blog, just love it…
Mavis Butterfield says
Connie I LOVE that idea. The HH’s grandparents would save all their loose change for their grandkids and give it to them each Christmas. It’s one of my husband’s fondest memories. π

We take our change bucket each year to the Coinstar machine at the grocery store. If you take cash back Coinstar charges you a fee. However, you can select an Amazon gift card (or other gift cards) and there is no fee. Getting rid of the change each year helps keep the house clutter-free and we get “free” $$ for Amazon.
Mavis says
I never knew that you could get an Amazon gift card with your change. That’s so cool!

I am reading “The Botany of Desire” by Michael Pollan and it’s fascinating. In it he talks about how plants and people have “hybridized” each other. Very interesting and Pollan is such a good writer.

One of the best books I’ve read recently is “The Boys in The Boat.” Great human interest story set in the Pacific Northwest. Hope you have a chance to read it! π

I got around to reading ‘The Girl On The Train’ the other day and loved it. If anyone likes sci-fi/dystopia books that aren’t written for teens, I loved the Wool series by Hugh Howey. As in I binge read them last summer and am re-reading them now!
