Usually when the HH walks into my parents house he’s asked to fix one of their electronic devices. This time, it was their sunshades.
Have you ever played the game 31? Our family plays it every year at Christmas. Everyone comes to the table with {3} $15 gift cards and winner takes all.
This year peeps brought gift cards to Panera, Target, Starbucks, Subway, and Taco Smell. The Girl Who Thinks She’s a Bird won the game and promptly gave Monkey Boy the Taco Smell gift cards. It was kind of funny.
We all think Monkey Boy bought Taco Smell cards as an investment because nobody in our family would want to eat there except him and my brother. Smart kid!
Put a bird on it.
Every year my parents Christmas tree gets smaller and smaller. Gone are the days of 8 foot tall flocked trees, 6 foot tall artificial trees and now even the 4 foot potted tree. They are all just too much work. 😉
This year mom found a beaded wire tree and filled with birds. We all fully expect to be opening presents under a Christmas twig next year.
Christmas Crackers.
You can always count on Granny to buy you the things your mother won’t.
50 years from now Monkey Boy will be telling his grandkids that back in the day, receiving luxury items like dryer sheets, toilet paper, a bag of doritos and a gift card to McDonalds was the highlight of his year.
They won’t belive him of course.
So if the internet is still around then… this will be his proof.
Lucy Puggle knew IMMEDIATELY which box Santa left for her on Christmas morning.
Rooting through the box to find the good stuff.
Ohhh the holidays. They are so much fun.

I would love to see the Girl’s haircut! By the way, our tree looks like your mom’s kinda. I bought a 4 ft tree Hobby Lobby and didn’t put one ornament on it, it came with lights. That’s enough! @ gifts under, one for my girl and one for her husband, who is my favorite son in law as he is the only son in law, insert smiley face!

Omg Mavis! The “Portlandia” reference had me rolling with laughter!

Wonderful thoughts on the tree. So true that they seem to get smaller as we get older.

Yay for your Mom! Charlie Brown Christmas trees need to be loved too! Some of us “oldsters” live in small quarters and don’t have the energy (or storage space) we once had. Twigs and Branches make lots of sense . . . I might even have a quilted tree hanging on the wall next year . . . who knows? Thanks for all the fun this past year. I’m really looking forward to 2016 and all the fun you share with all the good ideas!

I have a friend who is planning on doing that next year (with ornaments hung on hooks).

And I thought I was the only one who got toilet paper for Christmas!

I have played 31 with my Great Aunt Mae (now sadly in the heavenly casino) for 20+ years! We would all sit at my moms big table (at least 10 of us) including my Aunt Mae’s current poodle with her painted toe nails, who nearly always got a seat at the table! Great memory.
We have friends that we met when we were both pregnant and now we play with them after dinner. Now that the kids are older, and realize the opportunity of making money, they are into it, too. Great game for the whole family. FUN!!!!

I didn’t think anyone else ever played that game around here!
My Great Aunt Mae, may she rest in peace in the casinos of Heaven, and my family played that game all the time. We would sit at my moms big table, like 10 of us, including Great Aunt Mae’s current poodle, who always had a seat at the table and had her nails painted. LOVE those memories!!!
Now we play it with friends we met in birth class (21 years later) after dinner. It’s what WE ALWAYS do.
Got a new game this year…my mom loves it, called 5 second rule. Get a card with a topic and have to name 3 of the topic in 5 seconds. Am adding that to the game list!
