Filling her water bottle at the airport.
Normally on mondays I like to share photos of the food we ate and the groceries we bought the previous week.
Last week we were on vacation {the first real vacation I think I’ve taken in about 5 years} and so while our “food purchases” came out of our vacation budget and not my weekly grocery budget, I didn’t worry about keeping track or writing any amounts down.
There are a ton of ways you can save money while on vacation {and I have previously shared those tips HERE} and staying in and cooking at your vacation rental is money saving tip #1.
But for us, this trip was all about taking in the sites AND eating out.
And we took our job seriously. 🙂
Here’s a few photos of the food both The Girl and I ate on our trip to England last week.
Cauliflower macaroni, salad, roll, millionaire bar, laughing cow spreadable cheese, crackers and orange juice.
We found a sweet deal on tickets in the “Priority Economy” section on our American Airlines flight from Boston to London. Part of sitting in that section was a food service upgrade {real plates and silverware, better food}. But the best part was the slightly larger seats with more leg room.
For me, the best “comfort food” meal was hands down the sausage and potatoes in brown gravy I had at the Burton Farm Shop.
Originally we had plans to buy fish from the fishmonger in Port Isaac {the same stall that Doc Martin would buy his fish from} and make a fish pie.
But when we saw one already made and for sale at Darts Farm, we decided to buy one there and bake it in our rental cottage oven instead.
A traditional English breakfast from the Capel Cafe in Port Isaac.
Fish and Chips. You can’t go to England and not get fish and chips.
Chocolate cake {for breakfast!}.
While we were visiting the Broadway Tower we noticed there was a little cafe near the entrance so we popped in for some tea and a small bite to eat.
I ordered a scone and jam and The Girl ordered a ham pie.
She didn’t know the ham pie came with 3 salads. 😉
All but one of our sit down meals {well, other than afternoon tea at Blenheim Palace} were at tea shops or small local cafes. But for our big night out, we went to The Swan. I had the poached chicken {with a side of peas, of course}.
And The Girl had a Margherita pizza.
And last but not least, while we were waiting for our flight home at London Heathrow airport, we sat down for one last tea at E L & N cafe and split a Dutch baby for breakfast.
It was a fantastic trip. We did a lot of exploring and ate a ridiculous amount of good food and we’re already looking forward to our next adventure.
It’s also good to be home.
As for the HH fending for himself for a week… While I’m sure I gained a few pounds, I think he lost a few.
A diet of saltines and sardines will do that to a guy. 😉
Hey, it’s monday. Have a good one.

What a great time. It’s funny that Clarksons farm popped into my news feed yesterday. He’s been ordered to shut down the restaurant and remove anything selling food to be consumed on the farm including chairs, tables and mobile restroom. Aparently it’s visually intrusive and harmful to the environment. We shall see if his loopholes work through a determined city council. Kinda like a HOA almost.

I’m pleased to see they served you proper chips with your fish supper, some places down south give you French fries (wrong on so many levels).
I enjoyed reading about your adventures last week, made me realize I need to spend time exploring my own country a bit more.

Welcome home!
It sounds as if you had a wonderful well deserved vacation!
The food looks yummy!
I am with your husband, I love sardines and crackers and I don’t even care that it grosses my husband out, lol! It’s better than his nasty limburger cheese!

Soooo jealous of your trip-I spent 10 days in France with my daughter years ago, and it was the BEST!! Do you know tho-I actually thought the trip was going to include some kind of Aga Stove lessons learning to make scones etc…. Lolol.
