Ahh Tuesday, I’m so glad you’re here.
Yesterday was a total mess and by around 3pm I was on the phone with Chino the Handyman pretty much having a nervous breakdown. Poor Chino. It felt like nothing was going right.
The cook top took 3 hours to install… then when it was time to hook it up, we needed a new part, so I went to the Home Depot to look for it. And while I was away, the washer, dryer, new toilets, vanity and some other odds and ends were delivered. Which was great, but Lowe’s was suppose to hook up the washer and dryer in the house. But Cameron didn’t know that, so the people from Lowe’s just put them in the garage.
Which meant the guys were going to have to bring them in to the house and install them. No big deal, but kind of a pain because I know that Cameron has a bad shoulder and shouldn’t be moving things like washers and dryers up a bunch of steps in the first place.
And then Cameron shot himself in the hand with the nail gun and had to leave to go get that taken care of. Which meant now washer and dryer hook up. {First world problems, I know. Shame on me}. And on top of that, I kept going back and forth about the paint color I picked {and bought 10 gallons of!} and not wanting to paint anymore of the downstairs because I’m not sure if it’s too peachy or not. Which I totally need to get done because they’ll be working on the trim on Wednesday!
Long story short, Monkey Boy and another guy hauled the washer and dryer into the house after school and hooked them up. Girly Girl stopped by and reassured me about the color and basically told me to SUCK IT UP because I’m near the finish line.
All is well. Keep calm and carry on, right?
3 more weeks to go people. 3 more weeks. I’m trying to hang in there but it’s getting harder everyday. Gaaah!
♥ Mavis
P.S. I hate whiny people. And I am whining. So I apologize for that.
P.P.S. The tile in the background {behind the washer and dryer} That was installed while I was out of town. It was the wrong tile. But the HH didn’t know that until he texted me an image and I was like THAT’S THE WRONG TILE!!! So that had to get torn up. Good times people. Good times. Yes, I am still whining. SHAME ON ME!

I did the same thing about a paint color. The paint color was supposed to go in the majority of the house. So my contractor bought 6 gallons of it. He started painting and I hated the color. But then we discovered that the paint wasn’t right. It was very runny, so he took it all back and got them to redo it. Once that happened it looked so much better and I ended up loving it. It will be over before you know it, just hang in there!

I’m funny about paint color. I want it to be right because I do it myself and once i goes up, I live with it. So I take some samples of colors and paint an 11×14 swatch on all the walls with all the colors arranged the same on each wall. That way I can see it in the daylight and at night and then pick my color. Yellow is the worst decision for me. I don’t want it too pale, or too bright, and certainly not kindergarten colors! Once that stuff goes on the walls, it going to be there a long while!

I’m finding all of these remodeling posts very entertaining and intriguing. I’ve always wanted to upgrade the finishes in my home but I’ve been paralyzed by how to approach it and to hire someone I trust. I’m more motivated to make it happen now.

Breathe. It. Will. Get. Better. There are always hiccups. Remember you are in the home stretch. Things will be fast and furious from now on. Focus on washing your clothes in YOUR own house. What are the first things you will make when you can cook again? Take Lucy for a walk, even for a few minutes, just to get fresh air and take your mind off of it for a minute. And remember, It. Will. Get. Better!

We just went through the same thing; a move and remodel. Moving is rated as a very high stressor, but throw a remodel in on top of it and it’s nervous breakdown time!
Hope things start coming together quicker for you. It’s difficult to be without a washer and dryer or a kitchen.
Love the color choices you chose.
Try to just keep focusing on how nice every room will look and the new arrangement.
Best wishes for you.

You are an amazing woman Miss Mavis! I read your posts, then look at my kitchen and think…. I can live with the ugly cupboards a little longer because I don’t want to cook in the bathroom and eat out for weeks. 🙂 LOL

You have my total sympathy! I am going through the same thing – a move and remodel. Two weeks ago they installed the wrong garage door and had to replace it. A hurricane inspired storm took part of my roof off so I’m interviewing roofers which wasn’t in the plan. Before the roof goes on, some re-ducting has to be done for my new cooling system. It just seems that nothing is every simple, but it will end!

Mavis—whine away it makes you feel better to vent!
We moved in 83 x2, 89, 94, 96, 98, 06, 10 and 14 and remodeled each house along the way. The first part is exciting because you know how you want your house to look, the middle is exhausting because all the problems pop up and by the time you go screaming in to the finish you are just eternally grateful to be done. We are working on this house, we moved in 4/08/14 and have remodeled a bathroom, painted a dr, painted a kitchen and a breakfast room, re-landscaped the entire yard, put up a fence and had gutters and downspouts installed. Yup we’re nuts!!!! It will get better!!
