The puggle princess and I woke up to rain this morning which is exactly what I was hoping for as we will be planting 8 trees today along in side yard area. The 1,000 vinca minor plants should be arriving tomorrow so I may go out and dig the holes today since the ground will be easy to work with.

Mavis, I have a question for you about tomatoes: how do you determine how many to plant?

Yes, Lucy is getting a little grey around her mouth. 🙂 As for the tomatoes, I usually just plant the varieties I like. Some years I’ll plant 24, others I’ll plant 60 plants and give a lot of tomatoes away to neighbors. I think I’ll be able to get away with planting 24 tomato plants at this house though once the beds are in. I like to plant some for snacking {like the cherry and pear varieties} some for slicing and the rest for salsa and homemade tomato sauce. I don’t have a formula I guess is what I am saying.

That helps because I know you cook at home for most meals and, apparently, Monkey Boy has a big pasta appetite. 🙂 I guess it’s going to be trial and error – I’m planting about 60, partly because we’re in a new place and I am not sure what the growing conditions are going to be. I wanted a buffer in case I lose plants.
