Happy Friday everyone, anyone have any plans for the weekend? I have to brave the stores to look for a new laptop. Mine is dying a slow death and it’s taking me forever to get things loaded and posted lately. The HH has tried to fix it several times but I think I just need to bite the bullet and get a new one. Lame. I hate spending money on stuff like that.
Do YOU have a computer you absolutely love? If so, please leave a comment below because I need all the help I can get.
Have a great weekend,
♥ Mavis

Mavis,
I’m a teacher and love all Apple products. After using Apple at school, I purchased one for home and love it. Easy to use, get help when I need it. The switch was relativley easy.
Thanks for working hard on your blog. I regularly check the deals that I don’t have time to find on my own.
Thanks again – Debbie

I am soooo nervous about switching to an apple computer. I’m terrified the learning curve will be HUGE. 🙁
Brandy says
It’s not that bad Mavis! IMO Apples interface is so simple compared to windows– It is easy to overcomplicate a task, at first just take your time. I also purchased a book by David Pogue (this was back years ago on 10.4) I ended up reading it cover to cover and I learned so much!

I bought a new laptop that came with Windows 8, I despise it, absolutely despise it. I’ve never had so much problems with an operating system. I have stupid pop ups all the time, trying to load anything is a hassle, creating shortcuts is insane. I would give anything to be able to go back to my XP.
KAte says
Windows 8 is THE WORST!!
I don’t know a single person who likes it.
Ashley says
Hate Windows 8! I’d go waaaaaay back before XP to avoid it. When my current laptop craps out, I’ll switch from my previously easy going Toshiba and spring for a Mac. Windows 8 ruined it for me butit’s so nice to here that I’m not alone and I’m not a total dum-dum.

Mavis, Fear not!! Apple products are brilliant and easy to use. Say goodbye to expensive virus protection and hello to a straightforward, user friendly machine. Their customer service is quite excellent if you do run into a glitch.

A computer repair shop may be able to fix it unless it really old. I’ve had a Lenovo for about 5 years and I absolutely love it!

PLEASE move to the Mac! My husband and I love it! We have 4 laptops and a Mac (he takes pictures, and Mac is the bomb for photo’s) and I consistently go to the Mac if I can. There is a learning curve, but so worth it. Macs don’t have virus issues!
LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.

I second going with lenovo!

We, too, were in this situation recently. I’ve been wanting a Mac for years but haven’t looked seriously at them because of the price. Then we bought my son a laptop with Windows 8.1. Ugh. Horrible. I can’t say anything kind about it, so I’ll not say anything else. In searching for this new laptop, I still looked at pc’s because of the price. Once I figured out the hard drive space needed, the memory, and added in software needed (since pc’s don’t come with Office), I realized I was only a few hundred dollars from a Mac that would meet my needs. And it had the stellar Apple reputation. We visited our local Apple Store and to put it mildly, were very impressed.
Finally two weeks ago, we did it. Yes there is a learning curve, but the Apple Store offers free workshops to help you (does any PC company do that?!) And in all honesty, the learning curve for the Mac has been less than the learning curve for Windows 8.1. I still don’t get that one.

We have a tablet computer (Surface, with a detachable keyboard) with Windows 8. We are really happy with it. Windows 8 took a little getting used to but now I think it’s great.
Rebecca says
I also have a Surface with detachable keyboard and love it – – – highly recommend. It is so nice and lightweight, but very powerful. I have the full Windows suite loaded on it and tons of apps and it is the best computer I have ever had!

We bought a laptop a few months ago with that stupid windows 8 on it & we loathe it! If you can swing it, get an Apple product.
suzanne says
Mac all the way. You will never go back!
Zoltan N. says
I think you can buy an SSD into your laptop it is much cheaper than a new computer. I bought a new laptop without an SSD – and with the highest CPU – a week ago, but sometimes it is a bit slow for me. I will replace my laptop’s HDD with a 256GB SSD.
Kori F says
Mavis, I work for an IT company. Mac’s get viruses too. Anything that you connect to the internet will allow a virus, malware, ransom ware…So please don’t get a Mac for that reason. People call all the time because they have have a virus, they think Mac’s are safe… but they aren’t anymore safe than anything else.
Good luck!

I’m a Toshiba gal myself. I’ve had Satelites for my last three computers. The first one I dropped and cracked the screen after 4 years – I got my data off it and bought a new one. That one, I stupidly turned the monitor on permanently – it burned out after 3 years. I’m on my 3rd and it’s now 4 years old and still going good.
Lissa says
Apple is worth the price. Startup is practically instant. I’ve never had a virus in 10 years: macs, ipads, iphones. All work seamlessly with one another. The “office” suite of apps is included in the price. Classes are free. Plus with all the blogging you do a new computer has to be some sort of write-off. Go for the Apple! After using a Mac, I will NEVER go back to a windows machine. Never.
Kathy says
Using a MacBook Pro here, love it! Once I switched to Apple, I can’t imagine ever going back. As others have confirmed, there is a learning curve, but because kids use Apples in school, mine were able to help me with things here and there. And I googled MacBook tips too. That was helpful. Particularly if you have an iPhone, I would recommend a MacBook. Apple products work so well together. My music, calendar, and text messages (as long as the other person is using Apple too) are all accessible on either device. Good luck on your decision!

I replaced a Dell Dimension 8200 XP that I’d had since 2001 last year, no thanks to Microsoft and their stance with XP. I got another Dell XPS 8700 with Windows 7. Other than it having no parallel port for my printer, I love it. I made sure this time to get a PC with room to upgrade if need be. I have heard wonderful things about Macs as well, used to work in IT. But most of my apps are for PC’s and I couldn’t see spending more money for the Mac versions I would need, not to mention the fact that learning Windows 7 and Office 2013 was as much of a learning curve that I wanted. I have just reached the age that I don’t want to have to do a lot of learning to do what I have been doing. I have a Dell Inspiron 15 as well for when I am traveling, just get Windows 7 installed.
Stacy says
Mavis,
I have both, Macbook Pro and a PC. Both are new this year. The PC has Windows 8 which I absolutely abhor and is the reason I don’t use it all that much anymore. I also have a PC at school (I’m a high school teacher) that runs Windows–and that nasty Window 8. UGH. I work almost exclusively on my Mac at home on things for school, and things work seamlessly between between my Mac and both PCs. I’ve never had issues with being able to move between them. And the Mac just doesn’t have the issues that the PCs have. This is the second Mac I’ve had (last one got fried in a power surge when a transformer in town blew up…boo) . I will probably always be a Mac user from now on. And it goes with all the other iStuff. 😉 I do recall there being a bit of a learning curve when I first got the Mac, but once you master it, you will love it!

We just bought our son a Surface 2 to take to college and he loves it.
