Well, the good news is we finally found a home for our old appliances. And the other good news is that we will be on freezer meal mode for the next two weeks as we try to eat all the food that’s in the bottom of our old refrigerator/freezer.
I don’t know what took us so long to find a home for our old appliances that have been taking up room in our garage since the kitchen remodel last fall, but we finally called the Habitat for Humanity ReStore and they said they’d love to have them {and they will pick them up too!}.
Yee-Haw! This means I won’t need to cook any meals for the next few weeks. Freezer meal mode here we come!
Being on freezer meal mode should totally help with staying away from the grocery store, don’t you think? The only thing we’ve bought at the grocery store in the past 3 weeks has been a gallon of milk which was $4.64 at Hannaford.
This puts our current grocery store purchases for 2023 at $1099.61.
This past week we harvested berries, cabbage, onions and chives from the garden.
The last time I made a shortcake instead of making it in a large pan I used my mini cake pan and froze a bunch of mini shortcakes for later.
Well, the time to use them is now I guess. We may not be getting a ton of berries this year {only about a cupful a day} but it’s just the right amount to enjoy them on shortcake.
Here’s most of the meals we ate last week:
The HH’s chicken noodle soup. {From the freezer section.}
8 Can taco soup. {From the freezer section.}
Lasagna. {From the freezer section.}
Baked mac and cheese. {From the freezer section.}
No cooking for two weeks! I’m excited about this! 🙂
So how did YOU do last week? Did you eat anything good? Have you been making anything new? Do tell.
~Mavis

Your meals look delicious but as hot and dry as Boise is…no soup on the menu here! We had wedge salad with melon, BLT sandwiches with melon, grilled ham & cheese sandwiches with green salad & melon, takeout pizza, and a beef & broccoli dish (from Costco that just needed to be heated up…it was meh) with rice & potstickers. Saturday night we grilled a lot of boneless chicken breast & thighs and had grilled romaine salad…it was meh for me. Last night we had caprese salad & leftover chicken…with basil from our deck…it was amazing.

All those things sound wonderful. 🙂

We got back from vacation on Friday (July 28th), and we don’t plan on going grocery shopping until Thursday (August 3rd) which is our regular shopping day. We don’t have anything fresh in the refrigerator (except eggs from the chickens), so we are eating from the freezer. We have milk and French toast in the freezer, and I made fruit smoothies using frozen fruit. We have a lot of meat and some quick meal items (egg rolls, pizza, battered shrimp, etc) for lunch or dinner and my pantry is full of other things to make. We definitely will not starve! And as a bonus, we will be under budget on what we spent for food for July! (We don’t count eating out on vacation in our food budget – that comes out of our vacation money.) I am calling it a win!

It is a win. It’s incredible what you find in the freezer. Good for you for being under budget. Big time win.

Nothing like fresh berries! Even though it took a while, that is so cool that you found a great source for your old appliances.
Mavis Butterfield says
I’m happy the appliances will be used by someone else. Win win for everyone. 🙂

We were on a 2.5 week road trip so we ate at families houses and ate out the whole time. My adult kids took care of the house and dog and not once made a trip to the store. To say my fridge was bare is an understatement . Condiments, rotten produce and a few eggs were all that remained. The freezer and pantry downstairs were very much cleaned out as well. After cleaning the fridge shelves I placed a $200 Walmart pick up order. Now I just need a meal plan

We were the recipients of a goof up pizza Saturday which was a nice treat for us. I did do some coupon shopping with all digital coupons and then ibotta rebates and a Shopmium rebate, Shopmium bought out coupons.com. Overall I was able to get a free bag of pretzels, two free health bars, a free package of cookie dough, and $5 off one of my purchases. I did pretty well in the grocery store department this week. However I went to Costco and that was not so kind to my wallet. I tried. More cooking at home for us this week.

Lately I’ve been converting a bunch of recipes to be non-dairy and eggless to accommodate our baby’s allergies. It’s been a pleasant surprise how many things have turned out. The non-dairy hash brown casserole and tamale casserole were amazing, and I even managed to make dairy and egg free birthday cake for his first birthday. He’s doing exposure therapy to hopefully outgrow those two allergies, but it’s nice to have workarounds until that happens.

How can that baby be a year old already?
Mel says
He’s half my height but has never slept more than 3 hours consecutively. We’re assuming there’s some sort of time warp involved.
