Mama Lucy took her baby chicks out this morning for a little fresh air.
Maybe it’s weird for a dog to love chickens but please don’t tell Lucy because she’s a total natural in the mother hen department.
Lucy is especially fond of the Silver Cochin chick {last week we thought she might be a White Cochin because we didn’t see any sign of black feathers}. If you look closely you can see hints of black on her wing though so all is well. She’s the first one Lucy checks on each day and it’s totally adorable.
Look at the tail feathers starting to pop out on the Sicilian Buttercup chicken.
And the coloring on the Welsummer chick. Gorgeous!
And lastly, the Light Brahma. This bird cannot keep her beak shut to save her life. Seriously, she’s a total chatterbox during the daytime. I’ve never seen {or heard} anything like it. Luckily though the chicks have been pretty quiet at night when we’re all trying to sleep {they are in our laundry room right now}.
Oh Lucy, you are such a sweetie.
Did you get chicks this spring? How do your other pets do around them?

I just picked up chicks today — two Arucanas and a Welsummer. The husband was hoping for an Orpington, but there weren’t any at the feed store right now. My cat is still unsure about all the cheeping, but we also have baby gates up so she can’t get to them.

I didn’t know chickens were approved by your HOA. I must have missed somethi.g

She is raising them for Mrs. Hillbilly and will turn them over to her once they are out of the chick stage.

Something is not right with my day if I don’t see a pic of Lucy and these pictures of her with “her” chicks really made my day!

A few days ago, we picked up 5 buff orpingtons to refresh the flock. I will have to decide which ones to retire to make more room in the coop for the new girls.
