Truth time. I have never seen Gone with the Wind or even read the book! I know! It’s been on my list for AGES and I’m finally getting around to it now. So tonight’s the night. I’m about to be properly introduced to Scarlett O’Hara and watch what was for ages the highest-grossing film of all time in Canada and the US.
Are you a big Gone with the Wind fan? Can you believe I’ve never seen it? It’s free with your Amazon Prime membership, so if you’re like me and you’ve never seen it either, here’s your chance! We can watch it at the same time and then compare notes. Ha!
Peace out Girl Scouts & have yourself a great weekend,
~Mavis

I hope that people don’t hate me for this but I didn’t care for Gone With The Wind. My hubby and I actually love old movies. Just not this one.
Jennifer says
I am with you. Didn’t care for the book or the movie and i live in the south.
Judy B says
The movie and the book are somewhat different from each other. Both are very enjoyable but i prefer the book for its depth and character development. I hope you enjoy it. It is a VERY long movie.
Nancy says
I enjoyed the book and movie although not as strongly as some. I much preferred “Celia Garth” which is based on the Revolutionary War, no movie was ever made about it though.
Kate says
Agreed. Can someone out there please make a movie of Celia Garth?

I’m with you guys. I’ve seen it and yes it is epic, but just not my favorite. However, Mavis, once you have seen it you must go to You-Tube and look up the Carol Burnett spoof. It is funny by itself but if you have the movie as a background reference it makes it even better.
DebbieB says
That Gone With the Wind skit with Carol Burnett has to be one of the funniest things I have ever seen!!
Deb k says
I agree
Carole says
I guess I’m the odd ball, I LOVE this movie. Its timeless. Please enjoy it Mavis. Yes it is long, so get a very large popcorn!!
Earlene says
Loved the movie and the book! It’s long, but it’s an interesting mix of characters. I’ve known girls/ women like Scarlett most of my life and men like Rhett, just enjoy it!!
Chris says
Love, love, love, this movie! It was so perfectly cast. When looked at from the perspective of the grand Technicolor sweeping epic movies of the late 30’s, it is pure movie heaven. Now, how it will compare to the programs you usually watch on Friday nights, BBC series and documentaries, this will be interesting. I hope you enjoy it. I also loved the book and have read it multiple times. Hopefully, you will let us know if you enjoyed it or went to bed early.

The book is one of my all time favorites. I’ve read, reread, and reread the rereading. But the movie? I appreciate the historical aspect of the movie – the scope it took to make it and how epic it was. But I love the book so much more.
Deborah says
Watch the movie for what is, and when it was made. Enjoy the beautiful costumes and scenery .
I second watching this and then the Carol Burnett parody, it’s humor is priceless.
I just get so frustrated when people
Politicalize something like a movie.
Laura says
I also loved the movie and the book. Enjoy it!
Deborah says
I’ve only seen part of Gone with the Wind. It was OK. I might try to watch it again. Right now, we are watching The Hunger Games, again. We like it a lot.

My favorite movie. The book was good too. Enjoy!

I’ve always loved GWTW, because my Mother, who was barely 20 years old, attended the premier in Atlanta. She often spoke of the glamorous stars and the excitement of the event, but the thing that always made her laugh was the fact that, although she attended as a guest of relatives from Birmingham, they refused to speak to her for the rest of the evening, hence she was from New York! Different time, for sure.

I love the book and the film. The film was made in 1939 at the dawn color movies. It won several academy awards. It does a wonderful job of depicting the time and the novel. This is an epic film and one of my favorites.

I have the movie also, and like re-watching it. But, the book, like so many others, is much better than the movie. It’s deeper, more descriptive, thoughtful, and just a joy to read. Especially on rainy days with a cuppa! And, it’s about the only book I will re-read.
I’m a southerner and do not feel a need to defend anything in the book or movie. Ms. Mitchell was a genius.
Heidi P says
I re-watched it last week during a couple flights out of town and I do enjoy it. I think I will get the book and give it a read based on so many here recommending it.
Jennifer says
I have watched the movie at least 20 times and read the book for the first time at 16. Grew up in rural SC and could relate to some aspects, both good and bad.
Even if you don’t like the movie, you have to admit the scene where all of the wounded are laying in the railyard and it just goes on and on showing them, then cuts to the tattered Confederate flag is one of the most amazing cinematography ever!
