This past week I came across the PBS Masterpiece show My Mother and Other Strangers and pretty much fell in love with it. You know me, I love all things British and so I’m a total sucker for these types of shows. This series takes place in Northern Ireland {someplace I’d like to go to someday} and “portrays the culture clash when a U.S. bomber base is established near the fictional village of Moybeg in 1943, bringing hundreds of gum-chewing, swing-band-listening American airmen to a remote Ulster farming community, with its winsome women and stolid workingmen.”
The whole series is about 5 hours in length and is broken up into {5} 58 minute shows and right now you can catch it on Amazon Prime.
Let me know what you think if you decide to watch it–or if you have already seen it.
Peace out Girl Scouts & have yourself a great weekend,
~Mavis

I enjoyed. If you like Home Fires you will probably enjoy this. Seen the Durrells in Corfu yet? That’s a good one and a little lighter in tone….

Yes love both of those!

Have you read The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan? It takes place in Scotland and was a good read.

Thank heavens for the closed captioning option. Otherwise, I can’t understand much of what’s being said on these shows.
It’s not just accents, it seems everyone mumbles in movies now. I don’t think it’s my hearing, I have to wear earplugs to sleep or every little thing wakes me up.
