A few weeks ago, I watched Pioneer Quest. I LOVED it. It’s about two couples that try to live on the Canadian prairie, 1870’s style. Holy perspective on modern conveniences! It’s free on Amazon Prime and totally worth your time!
Let me know what you think if you decide to watch it–or if you have already seen it.
Peace out Girl Scouts & have yourself a great weekend,

I really enjoyed it, too. There’s a sequel called “Quest for the Bay” that I’ve not yet watched. Have you seen that one yet?

Just finished watching it! Certainly makes you think about what is important in life, and how easy we have it with most of our jobs these days.

I just watched it, too, and loved it. I was thinking of Frontier House, which I’d seen before, that was similar, but with families with children and set in Montana. Amazon has DVDs of it, and I found it on YouTube. Fascinating stories.

Thanks for letting us know it is on Amazon Prime. I caught a few episodes when it was first run and liked it but not enough to buy it. I’ll want to watch the whole series now.
I really liked Frontier House too, especially the part at the end where they had to move back into modern society. Their reactions were very telling.

I watched it a few weeks ago and loved it too! I wish there was another season. I was sad when it ended.

I’ve watched so many of the historical reenactment shows – I’m not sure I’ve seen them all, but this one, I’ve seen.
I really enjoyed it I appreciated that they didn’t trash the show when one of the first couples had issues and couldn’t continue. I think it affected the series, because the replacement couple wasn’t particularly compatible with the other. I think this was ultimately a good thing, really, because I think the reality is that, in the past, it was probably more likely that nearby settlers didn’t get along.
I liked “Quest for the Bay”, too. And any other historical reenactment show I’ve seen!!! Some of them are only available via YouTube or (ahem) other means, but the UK is a treasure trove of such shows, and there’s at least one from Australia.

I’ll check it out. Thanks AlysonRR.

I first read about Pioneer Quest YEARS ago on a message board, and was so intrigued I bought the series for my birthday. It was $75, on VCR tape. Yep, it’s that old. They did not have a DVD version and I was buying from the PBS or whatever the Canadian version was.
I liked it so much I watched it 2-3 times. But then we got rid of the VCR. And my husband wanted it gone. I saw it was on Hulu. So, yay! Of course, nobody wants VCR tapes, not even the library. So it sits in a bag on my front porch. Gotta toss it, it’s been there awhile.
Anyway, that led me to Quest for the Sea (which was fun, but not as good), and now I’m on Quest for the Bay. I think the full year one really ruined me for the shorter ones. I find them interesting, and they have the added bonus of putting my 4 year old to sleep at night!
Both of those and the Klondike one are on Hulu. Also, the Australian one…”Outback House” I think. I did like that one too.

Binged Pioneer Quest this weekend on your recommendation. I too LOVED it. And then I wanted to start homesteading immediately…well, a slightly easier version maybe.
