A couple of weeks ago, The Girl and I watched State Fair. It was just as fun as I remember. One of my readers mentioned Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and I had totally forgotten about that one. I probably haven’t seen it in 15 years. So, tonight, I am introducing The Girl to get another classic. Thanks Renay for reminding me about this one!
Have already seen it. Did you love it? Hate it? Can’t wait to watch it over and over?
Peace out Girl Scouts & have yourself a great weekend, ~Mavis

Yes. I think this movie cured her!

Yes, that was me who mentioned it! Happy movie with amazing dance sequences. Russ Tamblyn is in it, the short brother, and he is the father of Amber Tamblyn who starred in Joan of Arcadia and the Traveling Pants movies.

What? How did I not know that. Going back to watch for him.

He played Gibeon. I LOVE this movie. The character that marries Benjamin also played Catwoman in the Batman tv show, Julie Newmar! I recognized her voice before her face.

I love this movie, especially the barn raising dance. One of the greatest dance scenes.

I totally agree!

I remember LOVING this movie/play when I was a kid, especially since I’m one of seven girls. 🙂
However, when I eagerly showed it to my kids recently, I cringed through the nutty storyline that I had somehow completely missed as a kid. Yikes! Wacky! I totally agree that the dancing is incredible! (I’m not suggesting that it’s a bad movie to watch, of course, but that it is one strange plot.) Mavis — you’ll have to let us know what you and your daughter think!

One of 7? How fun! And I totally here ya. Sometimes when I show my kids a movie I see it through a new set of eyes.

I loved that movie! I’d like to suggest two of my favorite musicals. Flower Drum Song and The King and I (both Rodgers and Hammerstein).

Ditto!

LOVE it!! I remember watching it as a kid thinking my mom was dork for renting this one. But, then as it went on, I loved it!

LOVE that movie! I showed it to my oldest girl awhile back, but now have some more girls that need to see it! The Polecat song and the stealing-the-women song makes me laugh every time.

I’ve seen this movie at least a dozen times! There is a special place in my heart for the colorful, upbeat musicals of that period, and this one is one of my favorites! I do cringe at the controversial aspects (like making a trip to town to find a wife to come clean up after your gaggle of filthy brothers) while appreciating the strength and beauty in the family, the pioneering, and of course the theater of the costumes, dancing, and music.
