Oh, how I love Maggie Smith. She is a hoot {hello, Downton Abbey fans!}. So, this weekend, I plan on checking out The Lady in the Van. It’s about a woman who parks her van in some guy’s driveway, under the guise of temporary, only to stay there for 15 years!
Let me know what you think if you decide to watch it–or if you have already seen it.
Peace out Girl Scouts & have yourself a great weekend,
~Mavis

I too love Mags. I get to call her that because I’ve paid enough money in the theaters for the privilege. 🙂 She nails the character, and it’s a touching and funny story but also a bit sad. I loved the ending, where the true story portion comes full circle. Hope you enjoyed it.

Well, let’s start a Maggie Smith Fan Club ! I adore her ! I enjoyed the movie, a bit slow to start but a very touching ending. Thanks for the recommendation !

I LOVE Maggie Smith, have seen her in movies since I was a little girl and she was starting out SO…when I saw a partial ad on TV advertising this movie I urged my hubby to take me. I did not like this movie at all! It was depressing and, save her always excellent acting, not at all what I expected. I will follow the comments here and see if I am alone in my perception.

I caught this on $1 day early last month. What a character that lady was, never saying thank you and turning away her un-favorite. Maggie has never seen her finished movies.

I’m confused. I thought all of the movies you post for Friday Night at the Movies were free Amazon Prime movies, but this one doesn’t seem to be. Am I wrong?
Mavis Butterfield says
No, some are free on Amazon or Netflix and some or not. It just depends.

We sprang for the $4.99 and watched as a fam. Everyone LOVED it. No one checked their cell phones and no one fell asleep (2 morning peoples, 2 night peoples 🙂 ). For reference, my two kids are a 17yo boy and a 21yo girl. So funny, so touching without being cloying, and the ending was charming. Would watch it again right now.
