I just finished watching Call the Midwife Season 6 and it’s just as awesome as the first 5 seasons. It really is one of my very favorite shows and this season didn’t disappoint. I especially love it because it’s on Netflix, so I can binge watch it, because its certainly binge-watch worthy.
It’s now 1962 and times are changing, from the beacon of the contraceptive pill and the shadow of infamous gangsters the Krays, to the new welfare policies introduced by the government. Back in Poplar, when the rather austere Sister Ursula is appointed the new head of Nonnatus House, Sister Julienne finds herself demoted and working back alongside the midwives as an ordinary member of staff. She is not the only one to face challenges closer to home. As they strive to help mothers and families cope with the demands of childbearing, disability, disease and social prejudice, our beloved medics must make choices – and fight battles – of their own.
Do YOU have a favorite series I haven’t blogged about yet? I’m always looking for something good to watch and share, so I’d love to check it out.

Ooh, my husband told me Season 6 was on Netflix!
I love Call the Midwife, and loved Downton Abbey. I also like Poldark, but don’t have PBS so have to wait awhile to get that latest season.
One friend got me into Doc Martin.
Well, I think you turned me on to Shetland. Then Netflix suggested Hinterland (set in Wales), which I’m working my way through. Netflix also suggested Land Girls (finished that, cliffhanger they never came back from, bummer.)
I feel like there’s one more British series I finished…

Call the Midwife is brilliant. My youngest daughter and I especially love it.
We went to visit my 92 year old Great Uncle the other day and he was telling us about living in the East End when he was a child and his father was a customs officer on the docks. Because he was better paid than the average dock worker they were comparatively well off in their street, but half the children had to sit on the stairs at meal times because there weren’t enough chairs (or space, probably) and there was never seconds because all left over food went to the practically destitute family next door.

If you haven’t tried Murdoch Mysteries yet, it’s a really good one. I didn’t think I would like it, but after the first three episodes I was hooked. Netflix and Hulu have all six seasons, but I think Netflix is going to take off the first two seasons by October first!! So hurry:) Oh and it’s very family friendly, only a couple of dead bodies. We have also loved Leverage, Burn Notice, My name is Earl, and rewatched Quantum Leap with the kids. Too many choices, so little time….or way to much time! We haven’t had cable for 9 years so I always stumble upon series that aren’t exactly new, but still wonderful.

I got an Acorn TV subscription for Christmas, but hadn’t gotten around to starting it up until I found out that they have all the seasons of Murdock Mysteries. 😀

The two best series I can think of right off the bat are Downton Abbey and Outlander. If you like historical dramas, these are both movie-quality with fantastic actors and extremely well-done stories. I just finished season 2 of Outlander last night and can’t wait for season 3. That said, if you are conservative about what you watch, like I tend to be, you should know that Outlander does have some fairly explicit love scenes, some major swearing (including blasphemy), and quite a bit of war violence (18th-century style). Also, at the end of season 1 are two or three episodes that are extremely difficult to watch. I would skip through these and just read episode recaps on the internet, because the events in them are important to the story in season 2. Otherwise, brilliant show.
