When reader, Kathy, suggested I watch When Calls the Heart, I went to investigate. I read reviews, watched clips and did a little background research. It looks so so good! So tonight, I’m taking advantage of my Netflix subscription and starting this series. It seems like it’s a mix of “Anne of Green Gables” and “Little House on the Prairie,” which is no surprise since Michael Landon’s son is the director. I’ve heard so much buzz about it and the reviews look great. What do you think? Have you seen it? Heard of it? Am I going to cry?
Let me know what you think if you decide to watch it!
Peace out Girl Scouts & have yourself a great weekend,

The first season was the best. I really like period shows although I know they tend to glamorize the times. But the other two seasons got more and more unrealistic. I watched them anyway!

I love When Calls the Heart, it is typical of a Hallmark production. It draws you in, and I’m eagerly awaiting a new season.

Mavis, here is another movie to consider watching—The Last of the Blond Bombshells. It stars a bunch of older actresses, such as Judy Dench and Olympia Dukakus (sp?) It is the story of an all female WWII dance band and, 50 years later, the attempts to gather them together for one more performance. Sweet and funny.

Love it. Read all the books!

I’ve never been a movie fan and have never watched any of these. Totally hated how they jerked the Little House on the Prairie series around and made up a lot of stuff that wasn’t in the books–what little I saw of that. I did like the British Anne of Green Gables. It was more true to the books. That’s why I’ll take a book any day over a movie. I absolutely hate how Hollywood trashes so many stories and basically re-writes them into a different book altogether. That aside, all of Janette Oke’s books are really good if you like old fashioned, pioneer/romance type stories. I have all of them, I think, collected over the years, and still go back and re-read them at times. So if you are wanting some lighter reading, any of her books are good. The ones she wrote with T. Bunn are really good, as well, although generally more modern. And, if you can find them, her children’s books are excellent. They hold your attention and have a good moral theme without being preachy because they are told by/from an animal’s perspective. I hope you like the series and will be watching to see if you comment later. Just my two cent’s worth.

I absolutely love When Love Calls The Heart. And you are right, very much like Little House on the Prairie. I think it is more like Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman, if you remember that series. The lead actress kept her winning acting style as she did in Army Wives.
Have you seen Gilmore Girls yet? That is my favorite Netflix series. Check it out!!!

I have a suggestion for a movie, Priceless. It’s on Amazon Prime and based on a true story. We’ve seen it 3 times and still will watch it again.

I started that series but really didn’t make it through the first episode. Not sure why!
