Since there a junk ton of movies produced every year, a few good ones I want to see slip through the cracks and I forget about them. I was scrolling through free movies on Amazon Prime and I saw Cold Mountain. Still have yet to see it but I always wanted to because it’s full of great actors: Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellweger. Plus, I think it won a bunch of awards back in the day. It’s a Civil War movie and it’s a love story, so if that’s not your thing, I’d skip it. But it’s what’s on the agenda for tonight.
Let me know what you think if you decide to watch it–or what you thought if you have already seen it.
Peace out Girl Scouts & have yourself a great weekend,
~Mavis

It is definitely worth watching. I have watched it several times over the years. be prepared though for the harshness of civil war. The scene with the mother and her sick baby still scarred in my memory….

We have watched this often. We own the movie. It is one I never get tired of watching. We have several hundred movies the we watch and re-watch. Some are classics, some are newer ones. This is one of our top ones!

I have to dissent a little. Yes, it’s a good, well-done movie, but to me it’s a kind of depressing story. I read the book and have never forgotten how depressing it was. I think I liked the movie better than the book, though.

I didn’t watch this movie for years after it came out. The Civil War is depressing subject matter. But once I broke down and watched it, I find it hauntingly beautiful nod have watched it several times. The only thing I didn’t like was the ending. Then I read the book and all was set right.

I LOVE this movie!! It’s sad but a great story with lots of great actors!
Katie says
This movie and book are among my very favorites. Charles Frazier, who wrote the book, is a among my very favorite authors. He only has three novels, but I just found out there is a fourth due out spring of next year. Oh boy!
I hope you enjoy the movie. In addition to the romance and hauntingly beautiful atmosphere (perfect description PJ), it’s got fun music (Jack White) and women takin’ care of business.
Gail says
Great movie, and I love the sound track. I listen to it over and over and over…never gets old to me.
