I can’t not cry when I watch Dead Poets Society. It’s such an intense movie with an amazing message, and it’s what’s on the menu tonight. Carpe Diem, “Oh Captain, my captain,” and Robin Williams at his finest. This movie is truly a gem packed with so much goodness, and it’s been years since I’ve seen it. It’s available on Netflix right now if you want to watch it.
Have you seen it? Did you love it? Do you miss Robin Williams, too? Let me know what you think if you decide to watch it.
Peace out Girl Scouts & have yourself a great weekend,

It always makes me cry too! We watched it as a family when my oldest was still in high school and we all enjoyed it. Great movie!

I watched it again recently. I have an autographed photo of Robin in the movie, and a quote of his, he signed as well. I have them framed together! He is and always will remain an inspiration to me. Bless his soul.

This is in my handful of top favorite movies ever. It’s the one that made me first start to love and respect Robin Williams as an actor, and I have had my own copy for many years. It got some bad reviews, which I could never understand. I wouldn’t recommend it to everybody, just because not everyone likes that kind of movie, but I think it is so inspiring and well-done.

Saw it again recently. It holds up perfectly.

It’s a great movie. Funny story – I was a freshman in college with Ethan Hawke. Never met him (I’m an engineer, not a lot of mixing with the drama majors!) but he left a couple of months in to make this movie.

This movie has a special place in my life, in my heart and in the life of one of my sons. The movie was filmed at St. Andrew’s School in Middletown, Delaware while my son was a student there. He was fortunate to get a small part. Hollywood was looking for a perfect New England boarding school, but could not find one, because too many of the schools here in New England have modern buildings, that did not fit with the 1950’s time line of the movie. Lucky us! It was the highlight of my son’s sophomore year. Robin Williams was on campus often even when no filming was going on, and each evening, would come into the dining hall, jump up on a table, and say “Okay boys, give me something.” Several boys would shout out a topic and he would “riff” on that for hours. The boys always got to after dinner study hall late, or not at all—but no one cared. Every time I see the movie, it is a permanent reminder of those years of our son’s life. The mural on the wall with the boys and the founders, the boys rowing crew on the Noxontown pond, were all just how the school really is, not Hollywood props. By the way, though not until the 1970’s. but the school DID finally go co-ed!!! Enjoy your movie night!!!
