Earlier today the HH was giving me a hard time about the “junk pile” in our back yard.
Of course I had no idea what he was talking about until he pointed to the {ever growing} mound of odds and ends I’ve been collecting behind the greenhouse since last summer.
Obviously my husband doesn’t know what he’s talking about because HELLO, these pots are totally reusable. In fact, I’ll be needing them in a few weeks when I re-pot my tomato plants I started from seed a few weeks ago.
And these? These broken terra cotta pots are perfect for putting at the bottom of larger pots to help with drainage. I’m telling you, the man doesn’t know good “junk” when he sees it.
Oh and get this, he says I have to many pots… and that I should get rid of them. Is he CRAZY? Does this look like junk to you? Because it sure doesn’t look like junk to me.
Grrrr.
Practical Parsimony says
Yes, he is crazy! I don’t see one bit of junk there.

LOL my ex used to call me a collector or rubbish.
Keeping empty plastic milk bottles to make into plant pots saves me loads of money every year.
You can never have enough plant pot in the spring.
kate says
as soon as it thaws around here, i will send you pictures of my husband’s junk pile. then he will see what junk really is. LOL
vickie says
Maybe you just need a shed to hold all your good stuff!
teena says
My partner says same thing, they just don’t understand. I have traded quite a few of mine for bulbs, veggie starts and for a few dollars to buy more plants of course. Craigs list is good for that
Charla Echlin says
Those are the EXACT same words my husband uses. Honestly, they really have no idea 🙂
Charles Sifers says
I have often wondered how some people can be so clueless. But then, isn’t that the problem with today’s world? So many people have no idea of the value of tools, since they’d never use them.
I have no idea what kind of money you people make, but for me, terra cotta is expensive, and so are good plastic containers. Maybe you could enlighten HH as to just how much money he is wanting you to throw out, then take $100 (that’s about the value of what I see in that picture…) and ask him if he minds if you just throw it in the trash.
If he doesn’t like your “pile” then by all means suggest that he get busy and build you a proper shed. BTW, pallets can be used for a very nice potting shed.
Cecily says
Obviously none of that is junk, but I can see why your husband has that idea. My DH complains about my “junk” piles of garden stuff. A little organizing is usually enough to get him off my back.
Angela says
Know what? Your husband is right, actually I might take some of that junk out of your hands, you know? just to help you get rid of that pest!!! How about you call your hubby’s tools “junk” and suggest he throws them away? “you have too many screw drivers”
Tracey says
Figure out how much it would cost you to go purchase and replace all that stuff new(figure on the high side) and then justify buying a pretty shed like the ones you see at a garden show. Or tell him he can build you one. Lol, then he will probably wish he had kept his mouth shut.
Rosaleen says
“Offer” to give up ALL of your gardening “junk” as well as gardening, while showing him a list of what you produced/bartered and how much it would cost to BUY all of it from an organic farm stand. Wrap that around the cost of another “hobby” to keep you occupied. I’m hearing a different tune already.
Ulrike says
Fortunately my hubby will bring home good “junk” like that for me to use!
Linda says
Looks like my pile= not junk…
Carol says
I ditto everyone else’s posts, Mavis! I especially agree with Tracey’s idea about the pretty potting sheds you saw…..
Where does your HH keep his tools? The garden and associated items are your workplace….carpenters don’t buy new hammers every season. Keep your pots!
Ginger says
I stacked my pots to resemble a person in my flower bed. It looks awesome. Now, what to do with all the wine bottles I asked someone to start collecting for us to make a boarder in the garden. It isn’t going to work since I am expanding our front bed every 4-8 feet each season. Hmmm….
Lauren says
Treasure treasure everywhere! My husband and I collect ” junk” just like yours. We live in Texas though so snakes love our piles of junk!
Ruth Ward says
Take him to the garden center to price pots. He might then understand why you are saving them. There are loads of people who can not see the forest, because of the trees.

no junk…maybe your husband is confused…mine gets like that sometimes too 🙂
