Yesterday for date day, we headed to the Garden Street Bowl in Kennebunk, Maine. While we had been here for a meal before, this was the first time we decided to bowl.
I’ve never been much of a bowler. I think my highest score is somewhere in the 120 range {and that’s with those cheater bumpers!!}. But still, it’s fun to try every once in a while.
I remember my grandmother and mother both being in bowling leagues when I was a kid with the shirts and trophies and the whole thing. Apparently though, mad bowling skills are not one of those things that passes down to the next generation though.
Last night my score was 99. And that was without the bumpers… So I think I did pretty good. 😉
Maybe it had something to do with my technique.
I basically just walk up and throw the ball and aim for the center.
The HH holds the ball to his chest and then rolls it in some sort of weird way. He says that’s how the pros do it. He likes to give me tips. Lots and lots of tips.
Garden Street Bowl in Kennebunk, Maine. What a great little place!
When was the last time YOU went bowling? Do you remember your score? I’m pretty sure it was better than 99! Ha. 😉
Have a great dat everyone,

That looks fun! I don’t remember the last time I went bowling. Nor do I remember my score! But, I think 99 is pretty good without the bumpers!

Have you heard of the old show Bowling for Dollars? It was on TV back in the early 70’s. I was on that show! I only got 7 pins down, so I “won” 7.00. Just enough to cover the bus fare to get into the city (NY). But it was fun being on TV!

Oh how fun!!!

My highest score was 240. I use to be in a league 45 yrs ago. Have some pins to prove it! Bowling ball is somewhere in the garage. Always thought I would mosaic it for the garden!

I could bowl just fine until I was dating my husband of 46 years and he gave me tips and I could never bowl again. Just gutter balls and not much else! It’s been decades since we bowled because ‘gag’ the cigarette smoke.

I used to belong to a ladies bowling league when my kids were small, way back in the day. I had so much fun, it was a place to get together with friends no just have fun. Sadly, almost all the bowling alleys in my area are gone. Replaced with arcades of electronic games. Too bad.

I love bowling. Wish I went more often. My son is trying out for the bowling team at his school this year. I guess it’s a thing with a high school league. I think it’s neat!! Plus air-conditioning and no extreme sun exposure!! Yay!

When I was in college, I took a bowling class for my PE. Not only did we learn how to bowl. But, we were the manual pinsetters. We stood behind the balls and set them up for next student bowler and then very quickly jumped up to get our feet and legs out of the way of the next bowling ball. I loved it.
I was in a league while older two were in school, and baby was in playpen behind the lanes. It was fun trying to bowl and keep her in playpen.
I think 187 was highest score. The 70s were my bowling years.
I love that he gave you ‘lots of hints.’ Ex never bowled because people would watch him.

As a teenager, I had such a bad hook, I had to aim at the gutter about two thirds of the way down the alley so the ball would curve into the pins. 🙂

I took bowling in college too.. I do know the proper way to send the ball but I’m pretty bad.. I think the
grandkids all beat me! 99 would be good for me!

When I was a teen our country club had a bowling league. We used the smaller balls not the kind shown in your pictures. I was never very good at it but it was fun. More recently I have gone on outings to bowl with the local Senior center. It is fun and great exercise.
Just curious…what was the HH’s score???

We love Garden Street Bowl but I must say we do eat more than we bowl !! Great people that own it and nice staff I must say even if a few of them are relatives !!
You never told us the HH score and if his technique works??

If you see a place that offers “candle pin” bowling give it a shot. It’s a New England thing!

I went bowling with my kids last week. I got 103, at least one strike and one spare (no bumpers). My teenage almost beat me, if he had one or two fewer gutter balls. My goal whenever I go bowling is to break 100. I took a bowling class in college, I wish I could remember my high score, I think between 150-170 or so.
